Jesus of Surburbia is kind of whiney and self-pitying. And I suppose St. Jimmy is a part of him...so it would be a fair fight.

But Christian reformed himself at the end and became a hermit, so maybe he's a pacifist now?

Story wise, AI wins because its very linear. Character wise I find Gloria very interesting, sort of like an aging punk rebel who is debating weather to keep fighting the system or just accept it, or at least that's how i see her, could be completely off.

for me, JOS/Saint Jimmy and Whatsername are way better.. I think it's because I like whole concept of AI more than 21CB.

And I "lived" with them for 5 years, so it's hard to get used to a new couple..

Well I don't think that it's fair for you to call my opinion a terrible post.

Next, I'm an English major by choice lol so I can dissect characters til I'm blue in the face. I was just giving my opinion on what was I thought and it was a bit hasty on my part. You want in depth? All you have to do is ask. The short of it is though, JoS realizes what is wrong in his life and his time. He tries to correct it at first, but can't until his savior comes along: Jimmy. Now, personally, I believe Jimmy is a figment of his mind (as referenced by the even cleverer [yes I made that up] Whatsername in Letterbomb). So subconsciously, JoS knows what he has to do in his life to correct it, but then, Whatsername comes into the picture and fucks him all up in the head again (hence why I referenced her as a bitch in my last post). So now JoS is torn between his love and his savior and he ends up self-destructing to a point that Whatsername leaves and he ends up killing Jimmy. He's left all alone, grows into a real man, and even when he's reminded of Whatsername, he doesn't see the girl, only the experiences that it brought him.

Christian on the other hand I will agree is a self-destructive ass who doesn't know what time he lives in anymore. Only at the end of the album does he even begin to figure it out. He has no real excuse for being the way he does other that taking the "I'm oppressed" psyche to a whole new extreme that gets almost ridiculous.

And as for you're precious Gloria, don't choose sides without considering her issues. First there is the hypocrisy of her drug problem (Little girl, little girl, you dirty liar. You're just a junkie preaching to the choir). Second, I view Before the Lobotomy coming from her, a diary if you will. Here is Christian who I like to think has been fancying her for quite a while and she shows some interest, but the line that says, "I'm not stoned, I'm just fucked up. I got so high, I can't stand up. I'm not cursed cause I've been blessed. I'm not in love cause I'm in a mess." This is Gloria admitting her problem to herself, but does she admit it to Christian. No, he doesn't find out til later, long after he's already written "Last Night on Earth" and "Last of the American Girls." At least Whatsername told it to JoS's face (okay not to his face, in a letter, but she told him.) Gloria gets bitch points just for that. Personally, I would prefer to hang out with Gloria myself because she seems like the most grounded esp. by the end of the album.

But in terms of who is a better character? And the fact that the thread is JoS/Christian, I went with JoS.

Just for the record, my "this is a terrible post" usually translates into "I disagree." Just my persona.

i dont really undertsrand the storyline of 21stCB much yet. i know the AI storyline from various interveiws in which the band has told it. im just waiting for interviews like that that explain 21stCB in more detail. but i think i have agood idea of the characters. i count St. Jimmy and J.O.S as 2 seperate people cuz in a advertisement thing for the AI play it says that "3 friends try to escape from suburbia and find purpose in the city" or something like that. so i am guessing they made St. Jimmy a character. cuz i doubt they would make up someone completeley new for the play. but St. Jimmy's idea of a good time would be gettin drunk N' high prolly going to a punk rock show, slamdancin', and gettin a couple girls. but Christian's would be, IMO, makin a couple molotovs and burnin down somethin just to watch it burn, maybe start a small riot, tip some cars over. i think his attitude is something like "the world is already fucked up, lets fuck it up some more" i know this is kinda offtopic but i wanted to put it somewhere

it sould be Team St. Jimmy and Team Christian,

i think J.O.S. falls into the same catagorey as Gloria

and Watsername doesnt deserve a catagorey, sheskinda a co-start type of person. AI is about J.O.S.

if i had to choose i would choose St. Jimmy, and as for Gloria vs. J.O.S. i choose J.O.S. becuase im most like him, and i can identify with him alot.
