Jillie Boe. Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 http://www.nme.com/blog/index.php?blog=134...p;pb=1#more6335"It’s that the Green Day of 2009 are eminently hateable, three self-proclaimed spokespeople for a generation that didn’t ask to be spoken for who ramble in broad strokes and who’ve turned into as much of a commercialised product as everything they used to rail against."Even though NME is utter crap, and like what someone else has said, will continue to spew Green Day all over their front pages for the next two months regardless of this 'review', I agree with this quote. Apart from the "three self-proclaimed spokespeople for a generation that didn’t ask to be spoken for" part. I suggest they change 'generation' with reference to punk music to be more accurate.
Guest Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 NME's all praise for stupid indie shite anyway imo, I much prefer Kerrang and if I remember correctly, when KYE came out they said, the rest of the album's this good too, so they should give a better review than NME anyways.
Hermione Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Even though NME is utter crap, and like what someone else has said, will continue to spew Green Day all over their front pages for the next two months regardless of this 'review', I agree with this quote. Apart from the "three self-proclaimed spokespeople for a generation that didn’t ask to be spoken for" part. I suggest they change 'generation' with reference to punk music to be more accurate.I think Green Day have always made it abundantly clear they don't consider themselves spokesmen for anyone or anything but themselves. What exactly was it that "they used to rail against", that they've become now? I don't remember them "railing against" anything much.
Peel Slowly And See Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I don't entirely disagree with this review.I'm still writing my review and it anticipates every damned thing that review said. I gut it.I'm still waiting for what Pitchfork has to say (Unpredictable, but they 8.0'd American Idiot which surprised me) and especially Robert Christgau (Unpredictable in every way. Everything from Dookie to Warning: bar Nimrod was an A-, but he awarded American Idiot a C+, which he later hinted may have been a bit unfair.)
The Disappearing Boy Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 this interviewer is unprofessional enough to bash not only green day and their fans, but also the killers and bono.i think that says enough.
shoegazeloser Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Fuck the review. Don't listen to critics. Be the fucking minority and listen to whatever fucking music you want.

dallasthemenace Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 good review OR bad review...fuck music critics all together. they know nothing of what they write."those who can, DO...and those who cant, teach".....and those who can barely tie their shoes, become music critics.these katz seldom have any real love of music, much less knowledge or common sense of the subject. they simply get paid to bash (or praise, but seldom praise) someone else's blood, sweat, & tears. music critics are twats.
Peel Slowly And See Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 this interviewer is unprofessional enough to bash not only green day and their fans, but also the killers and bono.i think that says enough. The Killers and Bono kind of deserve it."those who can, DO...and those who cant, teach".....and those who can barely tie their shoes, become music critics. That's not how the saying goes.I'm planning on making a gigantic topic that shuts any haters of music reviewers the holy fucking shit up. You guys are really terrible about this.
caralongmuir Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I honestly hate the NME!!!They bash my other favourite band (The Stereophonics) now they're attacking my other one!!!!! Dicks!
Mrs. Nobody Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 meh, not a fan of NME.. not because of 'em bashing GD, but just in general ><so, who gives a bollocks, then?
sroy Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Its under the blogs section not the reviews sections. Its basically some guy ranting about how wants "the real green day " back .But, didn't we all expect this anyway?
Basket Case 8.) Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I agree with the review. I find the music quite boring and they seem to have devolved as musicians, to more simplicity and preachy lyrics. I love old Green Day but the new album is terrible. But it will sell in abundance still just because its Green Day.

They would argue that they were unoriginal!!!

The Disappearing Boy Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 The Killers and Bono kind of deserve it.maybe they do, maybe they don't, but any self-respecting professional music reviewer wouldn't talk about other fellow professionals in such a way.
Basket Case 8.) Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 maybe they do, maybe they don't, but any self-respecting professional music reviewer wouldn't talk about other fellow professionals in such a way. They got a similar review as a band a couple of years ago on Nevermind the Buzzcocks by Simon Amstell. Its nothing new, sell-outs has been flying around a while.
chickin'pickin' Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I'm planning on making a gigantic topic that shuts any haters of music reviewers the holy fucking shit up. You guys are really terrible about this.I like you.
Peel Slowly And See Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I like you.Good to see that you agree or, at the very least, respect my passion for it.maybe they do, maybe they don't, but any self-respecting professional music reviewer wouldn't talk about other fellow professionals in such a way.God forbid that someone actually has the nuts to talk shit about anyone else. If I was a famous musician I would run my mouth like the world was my psychologist. If I make some enemies, whatever. Honesty is more important than any of that shit, and you should know that honesty is one of the most important parts of rock and roll.
