14razorbacks Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I actually burst out laughing at "You know? Yes billie we know", well done From what I've heard, he's playing everything on Gibson Les Paul Jnr and Gretsch guitars from the new record - although I agree with you it would be great if blue came back..."Just a guitar"Pah.It represents a shitload
Lauren Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 yeah, but it's not the same and he plays E in that one and fretting that in the 7th fret doesn't produce the same soundAt what point does he play an open E?
.Holly Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I hate to break it to you lot , but the original Blue broke beyond repair years ago, it's unplayable. He only uses replicas now. That's right, he said so in an interview. He said it's totally broken anyway, so he let him have it. sad times. As long as it sounds good though, ya know?
Juan Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 At what point does he play an open E?in the "sometimes I give myself the creeps" part, it goes A (open), B, E(open) He always does it like that live
stxrlesseyes Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 All I know is, I'd love to see him play Blue live.
Guest Billy Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 It would be nice is Billie picked up a Gibson-ES 335, a Gibson Casino, Gretsch White Falcon, any form of Jackson, Firebird, or a rare Fender Tornado.
Juan Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 It would be nice is Billie picked up a Gibson-ES 335, a Gibson Casino, Gretsch White Falcon, any form of Jackson, Firebird, or a rare Fender Tornado. There's a video of Whatsername with him playing a black ES -335, and there's a pic in him in the studio with a Tornado In some other photos he's been seen with some Grestch, no white falcon though
Hermione Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009  sad times. As long as it sounds good though, ya know? It's OK, turns out I was wrong. It was an old interview I read, he's since got it fixed:Not true.None of the blue replicas exist anymore. Bj broke or gave them all away. The "blue" he is playing now and during the Ai tour is the one and only original. It was damaged pre Nimrod when a fret broke off and chipped the fingerboard, but it was repaired and refretted in 1997. the interview you are quoting was from 1997 probably. He did retire it for a bit during warning/pop disater tours but the newer ones never sounded as good.fyi, The longer string legnth of a fender has higher string tension than a gibson and is therfore better suited to lower tunings. Since when you tune a shorter gibson down the strings get floppy. Also whoever said that blue is 27 years old so he shouldnt play it, Blue is actually the newest electric guitar he plays on stage! the Les paul jr's he plays for the rest of the set are from 1956, 1957 and 1959!! so Blue is still the baby of the bunch...by the way, Bj still uses "Meat and Pete" his modified marshalls at very show! the same ones from Dookie.Hooray!
Foxboron Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 It's just a guitar....a guitar for a guitarist is as important as clothes for you...LOL watch 30 years from now his kid's gonna sell the original Blue on ebaythen...finally it shall be mine mwahahaha!why?the sentimental value on Blue is... like... man.... billie would kill to get it back if it ever got stolen.and im verry sure thats what he gonna do if its going for sale on Ebay.
.Brian Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 He uses it on 21st Century Breakdown and Before the Lobotomy, because those two are in Eb tuning (half step down). that's right. i saw them live last saturday and i clearly remember was using it for these two songs
Eirik Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Remember also that several songs on American idiot are played in Eb (J.O.S, American Idiot and Holiday are recorded in such I'm sure) but Billie played them on Jnrs.Entire American Idiot is in standard, except for Whatsername, which is in Drop D. there's a pic in him in the studio with a TornadoI don't think I've ever seen that one...
wwnflat_punk Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 The guitar you saw for 21st Century Breakdown was most likely a replica of Blue. The original Blue has duct tape because someone made Billy drop it a long time ago, so I doubt he uses the same one. Are the songs on 21st Century Breakdown in Eb? I think 'Know Your Enemy' is in standard.

Juan Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I don't think I've ever seen that one...yeah, there was a thread, I mean, he wasn't playing it, it was on the rack with a Jazzmaster and some other surfy fenders
gdpunk2 Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 He used Blue/copy for 21st Century Breakdown at one of the shows in Germany. I found it quite odd at first http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iErctvsaE8Thats the link with him using a blue copy to play 21st Century Breakdown
CarnageXB Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 On the AI tour Billie gave away a Blue like on every concert. My friend got up there to play the song with some other people and when the song was over he gave it back to billie and walked away than billie shouted out his name and said "Here Kid". Great time. I get to play it when i got to his house. I rarely see him anymore since we are adults now.
Rancid punk:LTD Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 ok so this isn't really important but there's 2 blue copies on ebay right now I WANT ONE!!!
E!!i Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Does anyone know if he usually takes a copy of Blue on concerts?
Lauren Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Wha? I thought he gave Blue to Joey. and I thought it was broken anyway.
The Disappearing Boy Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 i think it was repaired. whether he is using the original at concerts, or a copy, no-one knows.
Greenday_Aussie Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Just because it's Eb doesn't mean he HAS to use Blue....Eb is over rated anyway... I mean seriously, what's the purpose? There barely is any.Do you play guitar?I think it sounds a whole lot nicer than E Standard. And Billie hasnt used Blue on Breakdown for awhile, its between the Cream Strat or the Black Gibson ES-335.(Oh btw, thats the original Blue he's using. The copies are dead and burried I think. If you look at the picture Blue in the Q magazine article from awhile back, the real Blue has a 8 Ball sticker on the pickguard..the Blue he's using has it. None of the clones had it as far as I know. Also, the clones had different fretboards.)
poisonoak Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 r u sure its the original, the one he dropped and cracked a bit?
