madie Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 The reviewer wasn't even a douche about it. What's the issue?
chatnoir Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 They are too full of their own smarmy self importance that they can't sit back and appreciate something that is fun and beautiful in a way they can't understand, just because it's not snooty and full of its own self importance as well. Not everything in the world is meant to be serious, just as everything isn't meant to be fun. Green Day is Green Day, and they've never been anything but Green Day, even with violins and pianos.Poo poo heads Your posts are always a source of inspiration regarding new funny english expressions for me. Smarmy poo poo heads. I see nothing really wrong with guyliner personallyBecause there is just nothing wrong with it. Girls/women are wearing it all the time. So, why is it such a drama, if guys wear it? Because it is degrading for a man, if he does things, that are usually only done by women? This whole ridiculous discussion has definitely some chauvinist tendencies.This.And I'd know a lot about critics from personal experience of being an artist, and I agree. Most of them can't even make music let alone have tried to, and they bitch about imperfection and shit. They should shut up AND TRY TO DO IT THEMSELVES before criticizing others, whether it's constructive or harsh. PERIOD.Sorry I made such a stinging point, but there are too many critics who I think shouldn't be critics.Yeah, and of course I think, that everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but it is just different, if you are a professional critic, who gets paid for his/her work and who is supposed to represent some sort of public opinion.
newsflash777 Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Lighten up?You're kidding me.Since when is talking about the truth a such bad thing!?
Rebel07 Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 I'd rather Green Day be serious than turn into early Blink-182.i couldn't agree more
HoneyDo666 Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Green Day still have a sense of humor! Listen to any of their interviews! And the whole 21CB sound.... They definitely had fun mixing the styles and making it Green Day. This album is brilliant, that "journalist" is a douchebag.
watsername182 Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 FANS DIG: Guyliner ... Eh, did he seriously think that Green Day would be writing songs about wanking for the rest of their career?
Rae'n'shine Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Sounds like this guy doesn't fully understand what Green Day is all about. Sure, the album is more mature, but after 20 years of making music why wouldn't they want to explore what else they can do musically? And I know this is just a review about the album, but I'm guessing he's never seen them live. Then he wouldn't be asking them to "be more fun."
Miss Hedgie Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Really? We dig guy liner is that why we're all here? Please. He clearly hasn't seen them on their 21st CB tour where they are constantly having a laugh.I mean what about the toilet paper, and dressing up?Yes they sing about serious issues, yes they can be serious. But it doesn't mean they that can't be "light."Pfft.
Moxy Crimefighter Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Andy Ruthun needs a nice big cup of shut the fuck up.
Miss Hedgie Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 ^Agreed. Some people just don't get Green Day...it makes me sad from the awesomeness they are missing out on...
Brandon R. Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Since when has maturing musically been a bad thing? Some people will complain about anything.
Mrs. Nobody Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 I agree, I miss the 'old' Green Day at times too but to be honest it would be pretty awkward if they'd still act as obnoxious as they sometimes did back in the days. They're in their mid-thirties for crying out loud. It'd be disturbing to see a 37-year old throw mud like a rebelling teenager or take a shit on to somebody's balcony.I agree. And if they were still like that people would complain. The poor guys can't win
novacaine_kid Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 So what if they have grown up. They are fully entitled to do so at their age. Plus if you see them live, you will see that they are always having a laugh in between songs and such, and the interviews from this tour have been some of the funniest they have ever done. This guy knows fuck all.
Kaddi. Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Green Day are not humorless. Just because they talk about serious topics like politics doesn't mean they're not funny anymore. That guy should definitely watch an interview with the guys from time to time or go to a concert, because then he'd notice that Green Day are in fact really funny... just not like Blink182, but in a more intelligent way.
greendaygal89 Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 i agree. you don't like it go jerk off a cactus or something.lol that makes me laugh soo much
jenni Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 *singing*I beg to dream and differ, from your... hollow opinion
Lauren Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 I'd rather Green Day be serious than turn into early Blink-182.This.but if it's TOO serious, then it's not "fun" anymore. but Green Day still has fun. Too much nonsense gets annoying, but too much seriousness gets boring.
GDM Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Green Day has always written about the times that they lived. All very personal. I wrote a post recently about bow this album got me through this entire year when I had to present academic papers on genocide. An extremeley heavy topic and I literally could not have gotten through it without Know Your Enemy and See the Light. I also wrote that I hoped that they and we could go back to "happier" times singing about growing up, burning out, masturbation and pot in terms of us all being able to stop thinking about the horrible times we live in, which are quite overwhlming at times. In that respect, I do hope that their next album isn't so heavy, that things overall in the world can be better for everyone, and Billie doesn't feel so bad about things anymore. Haha. I think he writer doesn't understand that Green Day is working on an epic scale now, that since Warning, they walked into the 21st Century and decided on a new direction for themselves, and he doesn't have that in mind. Green Day still is fun, and always will be, and who knows what direction their next work will take? If the times are lighter, maybe they will be too, but no matter what, whether lyrically or through orchestration or performance, they are always fun. As for the guyliner, I give it two thumbs up and I wasn't even around and nowhere near a teenie during the American Idiot era.
J'net Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 This.but if it's TOO serious, then it's not "fun" anymore. but Green Day still has fun. Too much nonsense gets annoying, but too much seriousness gets boring.Exactly! And I've never seen Green Day be either annoying or boring. They have a good sense of balance .
The Disappearing Boy Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 i think the guy meant there isn't as much humour in their music. something which i would agree with.
suicidexmakeover Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 i wish guyliner would go die for one.also, the album has lots of humor, you just have to be clever enough to recognise it. It's not dookie humor, it's a more grown up, ironic take on having a laugh.bloody idiot doesn't know what he's on about.
Smoothed Out Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 By the looks of it, I don't think it is Green Day that needs to lighten up. Don't like it=Don't listen  Get a life & Guyliner ROCKS!
Kate Austen Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 I would actually be really dissappointed if their music was to become more tongue in cheek again. I would also see it as a step back in the wrong direction for them. Look, Green Day has plenty of songs where they are funny/immature/ and tongue in cheek. Even live, they bring their humor to the shows. Leave all that out of the new music. The fact is, the band is in a new stage of musicianship. They have never been tighter, sounded so good. And if they start making music that is immature - especially when they are as old as they are (and considering the last 2 albums and their content) - I think it would be really lame.It would be like a hair metal band in their 50's trying to crank out thrash metal tunes when they were 20. It just seems forced and out of place. I think people should except the fact that Green Day are like everyone else, and change as the years go on. You weren't the same person you were 10 years ago - or even 5 years ago for that matter. So why expect the same from them? Lastly, I truly believe American Idiot transformed them into a band the whole world felt they could change peoples live with music. I dunno, just how I feel.
greendaygal89 Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 By the looks of it, I don't think it is Green Day that needs to lighten up. Don't like it=Don't listen  Get a life & Guyliner ROCKS! well said
Kate Austen Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 I don't mind the guyliner. I mean..sometimes I think it's a bit silly someone of their age is wearing it. At the same time, they look REALLY good. Actors use it for certain looks, so why can't they..
