Starbug Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Art critics are one of the most dispensable groups of people ever. Seriously, no one needs them. A lot of them are not creative persons themselves, which in my opinion totally disqualifies them for their job, still they give opinions, although the artists didn't ask them to do so and other people even pay them for it. It's pathetic. Guyliner. Seriously. They are too full of their own smarmy self importance that they can't sit back and appreciate something that is fun and beautiful in a way they can't understand, just because it's not snooty and full of its own self importance as well. Not everything in the world is meant to be serious, just as everything isn't meant to be fun. Green Day is Green Day, and they've never been anything but Green Day, even with violins and pianos.Poo poo heads

I_am_B Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Times change dont they, yea green day had some funny classics but well music changes hey.
Laura33 Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Yes, because clearly writing songs about jerking off and drunk driving is what the band should be doing, instead of actually trying to have a deeper meaning to their songs. After all, thats what punk is all about, isn't it? Note to author: Grow up. Green Day has. What she said
ScreamsInSilence815 Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Overall, I think it's just that GD is kind of a hate it or love it thing.
peepee Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Why do we have to grow up? You all keep repeating it like a mantra but why? You all wanna become old boring farts? Do you have to write political song and hate everything from religion to whatever BJ now hates just because you have grown older? Personally I think BJ can still write personal songs even if he is in his late 30ies. And is that the direction everyone must go? Is that all they are ever gonna do? Hate everything just because its cool to hate? He hated Bush I can see why, but what to bitch about now? If you're gonna do it, at least do it in a clever and fun way like NOFX or whatever. I remember the day clearly when BJ said in an interview that he hates songs with pointers telling people what to think, well that is exactly what Green Day has become. Bring back the humor, the fun, the love of music and the personal life of BJ. Im so sick of war songs, bush and whatever else I cant relate to.
Starbug Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Believe it or not, most critics like Green Day.Oh, I know. But there are a few that think they're not good enough to be considered good musicians, or that they only sing about masturbation and whatnot, which I have read/heard so much about that I could puke. Only one or two songs refer to masturbation, but that's automatically what Green Day are about, and when they put out two albums that are saying something semi-serious, they're criticized for doing the opposite of what they were criticized for before It's a never ending circle of poop. Why do we have to grow up? You all keep repeating it like a mantra but why? You all wanna become old boring farts? Have you even read the lyrics to this album? Just wondering.

Just look at the guys. They look extremely happy and I'm happy for them.
Ila Reto Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 i think he fails to see the "humor" in this album. such as the irony of Christian being against the church, Gloria never being as pure and "glorious" as he thinks, and being able to laugh at ourselves at how we're all really living in this moden world and barely noticing what it's doing to most of us. yea, call it a darker shade of humor, but it's humor none the less (like a tragedy). and i know im not the first to say this, and im not the last. "Fans dig: guyliner" = sad generalization marked by the teenies of 2005.

Ila Reto Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Hey, I like the guyliner I'm sure as heck not a teenie lol angie you know i do also, but you get what i mean right? oh, and they're still brats, just on a bigger scale. instead of pissing off parents and teachers, they're pissing off the church and right-wing politicians!
WrenchNinja Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 That guy is a pure idiot. Green Day is having fun...they just got older and more mature. I have no respect for writers like that guy. He is allowed to dislike the album, but dissing them like that is uncalled for.

Im so sick of war songs, bush and whatever else I cant relate to.I fail to see how growing up = becoming "boring old farts". Growing up doesn't mean you should just stop living and become boring. Growing up means learning from your experiences and actually taking those experiences into account when you oh for example, write songs. We cant fucking expect any of the member of Green Day to write about the stuff they did back when they were making Dookie because thats not them anymore. Thats not how their life's are anymore, they've grown. I'm not saying the "new" Green Day is incapable of having a good time and write songs for shits and giggles, but thats obviously not what they wanted to do with this album.Just because you cant relate to the songs, doesn't mean the band should turn their song writing style totally around. If you want to hear about "Billie's personal life" I suggest you start tapping his phone or something.
Boston Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 For some reason, people never complain about The Who or Queen. Green Day is now trying on some grandiose musical endeavors that are very similar to theirs, and people whine and complain. A group of Oakland boys who grew up on welfare don't know about the working class lifestyle? Why do we have to grow up? You all keep repeating it like a mantra but why? You all wanna become old boring farts? Do you have to write political song and hate everything from religion to whatever BJ now hates just because you have grown older? shoegazeloser Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I agree and disagree with him. Their new music is great, but their old music is even better. Like, if songs had sequels, I want Longview to have one.
Psycho Britney Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Very shallow of me-but yes I do dig the guyliner!!
Starbug Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Very shallow of me-but yes I do dig the guyliner!! A lot of people do, actually.
Psycho Britney Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 A lot of people do, actually.Good, good. Glad to hear it! Course I know it's not all about how well they wear guliner! There is of course there fantastic music! *cough (but they do look so nice while playing the music in said guyliner)* ....Ahem sorry for perving moment! :whistling:
norcalgreendayfan Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Very shallow of me-but yes I do dig the guyliner!! I see nothing really wrong with guyliner personally
forget_me_nots Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 A lot of people do, actually.*raises hand meekly*Oh well.
Boston Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Very shallow of me-but yes I do dig the guyliner!! The one thing I agree with him on is the hatred of guyliner. I like the stylistic choice for this album (or at least what I've seen in interviews lately). Jeans, plain shirts, and leather jackets are "rock-star clothes", yet they are sophisticated. The American Idiot wardrobe was immature and unflattering.

Sharmellow Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 All bands grow up and evolve to something for the better or for the worst. Obviously that author thought they changed for the worst. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions. I personally thought that they started to grow up when they produced Warning. Also, not all fans like Green Day just for their eyeliner, I could care less what they are wearing as long as their music is good.

Why is it I sound like a perv?!Oh dear are we getting off topic...sorry!
Sharmellow Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Very shallow of me-but yes I do dig the guyliner!! Some guys can't pull it off, but Billie and Tre look great in it.Although, Billie used to put too much on sometimes.
