I wish id been there sounds like a great night! although they need to add a few more songs to that setlist!

well I think it was recorded for radio so they kind of "had to" play those hits ... I mean I don't know but that was my thought considering the setlist

^^ I love how this pic is taken from the VH1 documentary :D

Ähm..do you noticed me? I think i was near by you, but don't know.

For the internet? Can we see it?

Sure I noticed you, I stood right behind you. And after the show I was sitting there with you :D

This guy didn't know any more about the internet thing. Loved how he pronounced internet like inernet :D

set was nearly as in berlin I think. Pretty boring, but who cares.

Excuse me, boring??? Have we been on the same concert? :P

This concert was so amazing, I know, I am gonna fail to properly describe it.

It was my first Green Day concert ever. I missed out all the fun so far, because I was an ignorant person, who only got really into them around 2007. So I thought, it was probably due to bad karma, that I would never gonna have the opportunity to see them in such a small venue like the E-Werk. I remember, that all the FBHT reviews last year turned me into a green envy monster. So, I wasn't really surprised, that I didn't win one of the tickets, because I never win anything, and I had already given up on hoping to get a ticket, when Joey, whom I will call "Most Adorable Mod" from now on, pm'd me Friday evening and offered me his second ticket for the show.

I didn't catch that much sleep the night before the show, because I was just too excited. I definitely was totally exaggerating it and just gave in to a state of hysteria and it was so much fun. :D During the day I was even frightened, I might sort of pass out before the concert would begin, because of all my hyperness throughout the day.

But it was all fine, when we entered the venue around 7:30 and gathered in front of the stage and waves of happiness and anticipation flooded through me again. By the way the E-Werk is a really nice venue, it is an old electricity transformer station, which was build in the founding period style of the late 19th century and is now protected as a historic monument.

As soon as they were on stage and played the first tunes, I decided, it would be wise for me to choose a place, which was more in the back, because the crowd just went crazy right from the beginning and I slightly panicked, but since the venue was so small and not exactly that much crowded, every place was fine and I could dance like a crazy person in the back as well. After the first songs, there weren't many people who didn't go crazy anyway, it was a very energetic atmosphere probably due to the fact, that it was mostly people, who were fans for years, well and of course the guys were obviously in a very high mood and enjoyed playing so much.

Billie Joe was just amazing to watch. I guess, it was after the first song, when he shouted: "We are Green Day and we are fucking back!" And you could tell, how much he enjoyed that. He was running around the stage all the time like crazy and did all his showman stuff like the inevitable hey hos and making funny faces, interacting with the crowd and all that jazz. He messed up the lyrics of Longview, that was hilarious, he didn't try to hide it, but started laughing. Maybe he was too impressed by the guy from the crowd, whom he let sing the first verse, because the guy did a great job. There was also a younger kid on the stage before, who sang a line from one of the new songs, I don't remember which one.

I couldn't see Tre that well, what I remember was that he was imitating giving a blowjob with a microphone, I guess it was during their King for a day/shout routine. Well, :D

I really enjoyed watching and hearing Mike sing his part of American Eulogy (I hope, I didn't mix that up, I am not that familiar with all the overwhelming new songs already). One thing, I won't ever forget was seeing him play the Longview bass-line. Live. Approximately 5 metres apart from me. Longview is one of my fav from the older songs and one of the reasons, I always felt the need to bang my head against the wall, was that I missed out hearing this song live in all the years.

I remember, that I was either madly jumping up and down or staring at the guys in disbelief with a huge smile on my face during the slower songs. East Jesus Nowhere was so amazing, exactly like I pictured it to be, when they would play it live. So full of this energy that matches the striking lyrics so well. 21 guns, one of my favourites so far from the new songs, made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I remember, that Billie Joe didn't sing all the high notes like on the album version, but it was so amazing nontheless.

From the older songs, I enjoyed King for a day most. It is one of my favourite songs and I loved how they did the BIAB/Shout routine. It was so fun, when the crowd started singing "Always look on the bright side..." even before Billie Joe could start singing it.

"She" was definitely a highlight for me as well, my second fav song from Dookie and I didn't expect them to play it.

Joey sort of warned me before, that it would feel as if the concert itself was over very fast and he was right. Although they played almost two hours, I guess, it felt like a very short period of time. :D Anyway, I am not sure, if I could have made it through one more song, because I felt like after running a marathon. I woke up this night at 4 am with a cramp in my right leg, that was extremely painful and the rest of my body feeling totally worn out, but if you asked me, if I would freak out like that again, there would be not much doubt, what my answer would be.

nice review, just asking, venue was E-Werk in Cologne? 1LIVE and some people say that gig was played in Gloria, Köln. Its messed up. They probly didnt played 2 concerts in one day so where is the truth?

Now I realized that Köln = Cologne. But what was the venue, then.

Definitely E-Werk. It was delayed from the Gloria to the E-Werk.

No, it wasn't broadcasted yet as far as I know. The concert itself was a little bit longer than 1 and a half hours. I think, they will cut it down to an hour for the broadcast. I read somewhere, it would be aired next Saturday, but I can't find it anymore. I will post the date as soon as I will find out.

^ No they will air it on the 17th on 1live. Someone will record it and you can listen to it online also ;)

That was a great read, made me even more excited about my turn to finally see them :) So glad they still stick to King For A Day routine. And I'll seriously cry when they play Longview - one of the most important GD songs for me.

Are you going to see them in Berlin in October?

the setlist WAS boring

they played only songs they play on every gig.

basket case or minority aren't very special, are they?

i don't think the concert was boring (it was the best day ever), but i wished they played something special like in the american secret shows. something like going to pasalacqa, paper lanterns, geek stink breath, ha ha you're dead, etc. and not basket case, american idiot and king for a day.

Ok, I get what you mean, but I am just not able to say one complaining word about the concert, the lucky bastard I am. And I think, those songs you mentioned are still special, even if they have been played a million times.

of course they are. but for me, it would have been more interesting to hear something different from the old stuff.

i´m sure they will do some older stuff on their tour.

but this was a radioconcert, so i think they HAD to play songs everyone knows and not just the green day fans.

i really liked the setlist. they chose very good songs!

:o billie wore earplugs! he swore to never do that omg

Yea, I realized they were all wearing them. I've always noticed they were one of the few bands that never wore them. It makes me sad, and yes I know its dumb and it shouldn't, but that was one of the things I was always 'proud' of. Maybe not even proud, but it made me happy that they didn't need em before.
