First of all a Poll would be REALLY REALLY nice.

21st Century Breakdown by a lot. It's crazy this album can be loved by all Green Day fans but still goes to new places.

The album just demands your attention and grabs it.

I just can't listen to people saying that it's rewrite of AI because seriously those people are complete idiots. The lyrics on this album are way better. I wouldn't listen to those people because they probably hated AI when it first came out and they will love 21st CB when the next album comes out. Some people have obviously planned to hate this album (not on this board).

It has something everyone can enjoy. It's a album that's uplifting and gives hope more than the darker American Idiot.

I love American Idiot. It got me into Green Day but this album pushes it out of the way.

THIS SHOULD BE A POLL!

that's my 2 cents, though the clear winner so far would be 21CB... I haven't heard the whole thing yet, but as of now, my vote would be AI. It might change.

Warning:=21st Century Breakdown>Insomniac>American Idiot>Dookie>Nimrod>Foxboro Hot Tubs>Kerplunk!>39/Smooth>Money Money 2020

All are good, and I'm still deciding between Warning: and 21st Century Breakdown. It's tough.

i dunnoo...... american idiot will ALWAYS have a speicial place in my heart

but give me a few weeks...

I haven't listened to anything from 21stCB except for KYE and the 2 B-Sides (Lights Out and Hearts Collide), and I plan to keep it that way until May 15th.

So... based on lyrics... that's too damn tough to decide. I mean, with AI, I can relate to pretty much all of the lyrics in some way. And with 21stCB, the lyrics are some of the best written that I've ever seen. It's too difficult to decide right now. I think I'm going to have to come back to this question May 15th, after I've heard the album.

I need to let the songs from 21st Century Breakdown sink in a little first. Both are really good albums and I really can't decide right now.

i haven't heard all of 21st bd, but i imagine that i won't be able to chose between the two!

as for singles,

21st century breakdown

static age

EJN

21 guns.

Posted

Fairly even to be fair! I try not to mention the two under the same breath but it's difficult.

21CB's top tracks, personally:

21st Century Breakdown,

Before the Lobotomy,

Christian's Inferno,

Last Night on Earth,

East Jesus Nowhere,

Murder City,

21 Guns,

American Eulogy

Posted

I think they both are awesome. One is more of a classic rock approach while the other has a pop-punk sound to it.

Posted

Thats gonna be close! It'll be hard to tell at the moment because 21CB is so new. I'll have to really learn the album before I make that judgment. They're both so kick ass!

Posted

1. 21 Guns

2. Last Of The American Girls

3. Restless Heart Syndrome

4. East Jesus Nowhere

5. American Eulogy

6. 21st Century Breakdown

7. See The Light

8. ¿Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl)

9. Christian's Inferno

10. ¡Viva La Gloria!

11. Murder City

12. Before The Lobotomy

13. Peacemaker

14. The Static Age

15. Last Night On Earth

16. Horseshoes And Hand Grenades

17. Know Your Enemy

And really, I like Know Your Enemy pretty well.

I think it's too early to ask this question. Everyone is so hyped up that I am having a tough time believing people and personally, it's like this anytime a new album comes out... It seems that so many people firmly believe it's the greatest album ever after one listen. It's the hype. Anyways, done with my rant. Based on 4 complete listens.... American Idiot is still a bit better, though 21st Century Breakdown is fantastic.

1. 21st Century Breakdown - One of the most epic Green Day songs of all time, a sprawling masterpiece. More long songs please!

2. Christian's Inferno - Totally raw and took me by surprise, made the hairs on my arm stand up, love it

3. Before the Lobotomy - Awesomely structured, just adore the breakdown and the lyrics

4. East Jesus Nowhere - Grown on me so much from that first radio airing, it's just such a bold statement and I love that little guitar riff

5. Murder City - Straight-up pop-rock hit, delighted they decided to include this late on in production

6. 21 Guns - Such a beautiful verse blending into a fist in air chorus, destined to invade summer radio

7. American Eulogy - The off-key tone on the chants of 'Mass hysteria!' are bizarre initially, but it's an intricately engineered song that is sooo catchy.

8. Last Night On Earth - Perhaps the best ballad behind Lobotomy on the album (although that does change). Beautiful.

9. !Viva La Gloria! - Trademark Green Day; catchy, poppy, rock 'n roll. I like.

10. Horseshoes & Handgrenades - Really like this actually, surprised at the negative feedback it's getting. The opening lyric alone makes it worthwhile.

11. Know Your Enemy - A good, catchy song, and although it is essentially a watered down American Idiot, it's nice. Just overshadowed by other songs.

12. See The Light - Not a fantastic conclusion to an album, but upbeat and catchy enough.

13. Last of the American Girls - Another not too bad song sadly overshadowed by the rest of the album. A nice hook keeps it out of 'filler' territory mind.

14. Peacemaker - I can see what the lads are trying to do here... I just don't like it. The chorus is so weak, perhaps I just am not getting it. Ah well.

15. ?Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl) - An ode to MCR (Mama) as Welcome to the Black Parade was an ode to Green Day perhaps? Maybe, it's just dull and lacks the venom/emotion of the majority of the album

16. The Static Age - It's not perhaps such a bad song, however it's just so bloody generic. It's a total filler track, regardless of any argument. The album would be better off without it, it's just not necessary...

17. Restless Heart Syndrome - ...and neither is this: a horribly drab attempt at a ballad, representing a slump in tracks following Little Girl.

ALL SUBJECT TO CHANGE... I'm always changing my mind when songs are growing on me.

I prefer American Idiot only because all the songs don't start off slow like on 21st Century Breakdown.

Still love the new cd though.

I doubt that ¿Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl) was an ode to MCR. At all.

I need to let the songs from 21st Century Breakdown sink in a little first. Both are really good albums and I really can't decide right now.

This. I think I would have to learn all the lyrics off by heart like I've done with the other albums to make a fair choice. And listen to American Idiot the whole way through again.

I don't know much about potential singles, but here are my top five songs, based on first impressions, and in no particular order;

1. Peacemaker

2. Restless Heart Syndrome

3. Viva La Gloria!

4. 21 Guns

5. American Euology

Horseshoes and Handgrenades and East Jesus Nowhere get an honourable mention. As does the bit in Last Of The American Girls, after the second chorus. I could listen to that one bit on repeat all day.

I have only heard around 10 songs of 21CBD. From what I have heard so far I am kind of leaning towards American Idiot, however I won't be able to judge until I've heard the whole album.

Hopefully the singles will include 21 Guns (such an awesome song), EJN and American Eulogy.

One thing though, do you think they would have any problems releasing American Eulogy as a single considering it contains the n-word. I know it is not meant to be racist and the context it is used in is pretty much acceptable in my book, but we all know what the media are like and I can just imagine the ridiculous headlines 'Anti-US Green Day now hate blacks' or some crap like that.

Still, it's an awesome song and I hope it is released as a single.

Honestly, I think I'll have to have listened to the album for a year before I can say anything about it being better than American Idiot.... :/

21st Century Breakdown by miles. American Idiot, while being a good album, just didn't feel up to par compared to their past albums in my opinion. 21st Century Breakdown's made it's way to even topping Insomniac as my favorite album.

As for singles, I'd choose:

-21 Guns (this would be the album's Boulevard of Broken Dreams and would definitely earn them a Grammy)

-Before The Lobotomy (I can definitely see it being a hit)

-Last Night On Earth (their first actual love ballad. It has to get radio play)

-East Jesus Nowhere (I think this would be the biggest hit if released as a single. The potential for the music video is just insane)

imo totally different albums, and 4 rite now, not comparable.

think american idiot is probably easier to listen to and has more 'obvious' classic gd songs

i LOVE 21cb!!!

however some of the slower ones are just a bit drab and poor.

tho the amazing ones totally more than make up 4 that.

i think singles should be-

before the lobotomy

viva la gloria!

christians inferno

east jesus nowhere

murder city

21 guns

american eulogy

holy shit, i forgot how amazing this album is (despite listening to it all day) :D

Posted

I'd have to say American Idiot just because it flows so smoothly compared to 21stCB.

However, I instantly fell in love with the following:

Last of the American Girls

Viva La Gloria!

Peacemaker

Singles:

21 Guns

Last of the American Girls

Possibly Last Night on Earth, just to mix it up a bit.

AI will always be first, but Breakdown is fucking cool.

Posted

21CB, but I still think Homecoming and JOS are the best songs in the world.
