gd86arg Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I'm in love with this albumI like it a lot ^^more than american idiot
Peel Slowly And See Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Uh yeah, no. Church on Sunday is a beautiful song. And? Static Age still sounds like it.Church On Sunday is probably one of my three favorite Green Day songs, and I have no problem with Static Age calling back to it.
Rezurgam Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 True, there is a storyline throughout the album, but what goes along with that storyline is life. Describing two characters going through life, experiencing something, such as Christian and Gloria makes it able to relate to for us listeners even on the most basic level: being human.Especially "East Jesus Nowhere" is extremely easy for me to relate to as I don't agree with much of what happens because of religion or organized religion itself - so I can take much from that song and appreciate its existence on this album.Very true. There's a storyline but not very linear, which makes it kind of like life but yeah. The album is like the descent into darkness for the 2 characters and the rise from it at the end. So yeah, it is about being human in one way or another.
Peel Slowly And See Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 There's no storyline. Christian and Gloria are less like characters and more like symbols.
pooldude256 Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Something I really, really dislike about this album is that like none of the songs ever start. Murder City does but most of the songs have long, drawn out intros when I just want to listen to them damn song. Compare 90% of this album with anything off of dookie or any other green day album. The song burnout just starts right up and kicks your ass from the very beginning. Most of these songs are too experimental for my liking. I love murder city and I dig static age and a couple others, but this isn't green day to me at all. Hate me all you want.Experimentation is what I love about music. Without it, what is music? Just the same old chords with different lyrics. I like the album for it's experimentation.
Break of Day Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 little girl -> miserymass hyteria -> deadbeat holidaythe static age -> church on sundayDeadbeat Holiday is amazingly underrated."Experimentation is what I love about music. Without it, what is music? Just the same old chords with different lyrics. I like the album for it's experimentation."You can think that if you want. I'm all for change and stuff if the music is still good, but imo it's not anymore. I'm not going to justify green day changing and their music not being as good in my opinion by saying it's experimentation. Experimentation, like anything, can be good or bad. This is bad imo.
b u r n o u t Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 And? Static Age still sounds like it.Church On Sunday is probably one of my three favorite Green Day songs, and I have no problem with Static Age calling back to it.Calling back to it is one thing, but saying it's superior? I think not.
Drink Drank Punk Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 little girl -> miserymass hyteria -> deadbeat holidaythe static age -> church on sundayYeah but all together the albums are completely different in my opinion. You just came off like a dueche.haha I like you so far.
Peel Slowly And See Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Calling back to it is one thing, but saying it's superior? I think not. Those are arrows, not greater than signs.

Green Day Nerd Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 We still have the old stuff. We have a shit ton of love songs from the beginning, Dookie is full of the things you mentioned, and so on... now we have this album full of unique songs that I bet after a few more listens everyone will realize they can relate to various lyrics and perhaps even full songs like I've realized. Just jump into the story and realize that every song Green Day have ever written they have written for themselves, not for us, but since '89 we have related and that's how they have gotten to continue making these albums. Props to them. I'm loving it.I know I know. I'm well aware of all that. Green Day is still my favorite band hands down.
Guest Billy Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 shit, you'd never expect this from me.i really liked the short Song of the Century, so Old Time Radio like.i really liked it.21st Century itself was a bit disappointing until it got to the bridge, and the guitar tracks themselves were pretty fucking nice. that would be something i would expect from Queen.i'm only on the second song, and 21st Century Breakdown sounds like an upbeat Bohemian Rhapsody.
basketcase of suburbia Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Just finished the whole thing, I loved it. My thoughts on first listen:Horseshoes and Handgrenades=Main Offender by The Hives.See the Light=Nice track but doesn't work as the album closer.Last of the American Girls=Album filler.Restless Heart Syndrome=Great track, would be a killer single very Beatle-esque21 Guns=One of the best in the album, and I’m 99% sure this will be a single.Peacemaker=Great, very Gogol Bordello¿Viva la Gloria?=Very cabaret, like Green Day meets The Dresden Dolls. Misery 2.0Before the Lobotomy=Another great track, very influenced by The Who.
perfectpitchrob Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 waaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!(puts down everything I'm doing and plugs in my headphones)

themole Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 One thing people also need to realize is that they have to let the album settle in and personalize for them. We've had how many years to digest AI? What was all of our feelings about that album when it came out? What about Warning:?
Drink Drank Punk Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Murder City kinda reminds me of Too Much Too Soon at some points but I'd have to say it's one of my favorite songs on the album.
Juan Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Double dueche! Your vagina must be really clean.Oh this is win
