Ally Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I don't think it's a good idea. Like someone said above, it was gunna get leaked. And it did, we listened to 21st Century Breakdown didn,t we?only a demo version though but yeah i would get leaked at some point anyway
marie1986 Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 haven't heard anything about reprise banning the leak on vh1....so it must be legal, right?
Nele Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I think it's a bad idea.I mean, really guys. I waited 4 years. I just don't care for another few days. Actually I even can't imagine that there'll be a new album and new songs out in just a bit more than a week.I just love the thought of buying the cd and listening to it while I'm in my own thoughts. Not infront of a damn computer screen.
kongomorgo Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 haven't heard anything about reprise banning the leak on vh1....so it must be legal, right?kinda.
RebelofSuburbia Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Very bad idea. Like so many people have said before, it totally ruins the anticipation and excitement of the new album. Of course it's your own decision whether you listen to the online stream or wait another week so you can listen to the physical cd. But even then part of the excitement will be ruined. I am waiting till may 15th, I have been planning the day of the new album's release even before we knew any news about it and I don't want it to go any other way. Yet I know it will, because when I come online here and say 'omg I love it so much and (insertsonghere) is so awesome!' there is gonna be someone who'll say 'yeah I know it's been my on top of my playlist all week'. There won't be the shared excitement as there was with, let's say Foxboro Hot Tubs or even the release of Know Your Enemy.
sampy Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 okay, for those who wanna wait just to get album to your sweaty hands, it may be not so nice thing. but when there's people who's thinking like: "oh, green day is releasing new album, what kind of music there'll be? let's see". those people are not fans of green day, but if they're gonna like what they're hearing on VH1 and rhapsody, they may think like: "that's fucking wicked, i'm gonna get this cd on friday!"but i'm hc-fan of green day for real and it doesn't matter for me do i hear the songs before the release date or not, i'm gonna buy that album anyway! so, to get new fans it's good idea !
gdpunk2 Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 im kinda 50/50. I mean the band dont seem too bothered about the leak, they know the albums gonna end up all over the internet at some point, so it would make no difference if it wasent leaked. I dont think its a great idea because it makes it harder for those waiting for the realese not to listen to it. I promised myself that after the 6 songs played on radio, I wouldent listen to any tohers, but the temptation is just too great

I
Chad is Rad Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Bad, bad, bad idea. I'll be even more tempted to listen to it before it's released.
4whatsername8 Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I actually think it's a good idea for them to leak it a week prior to the album's release. That way, the public can get a feel for it. If they like it, they'll buy it. As long as they've got Green Day's permission, it's ok. Personally, I don't know if I will give in and listen to the music or not. I've got a pretty strong will power, though. And if I give in, it really won't be that big of a deal. I've all ready bought the album and I'll listen to it 24/7 the minute it comes in the mail
chatnoir Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 It is approved by the band. It is the full album in good quality. Why should I wait another week? This is fucking awesome. But it somehow kills the excitment. You know you go to a store, buy the CD thinking "OMG,OMG,New Album".it's fine you know for people who think it's a good idea listening a week earlier but when you buy the CD,put it in your player and it's more fun.I don't know, if you noticed any of my posts yesterday, when I first listened to the six new songs. I haven't been that excited for months, I guess. I had sort of a hangover this morning.
brainstews Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 It was gonna leak regardless. And even if it didn't, wasn't going to change a thing. People who don't buy CDs will never buy CD's. They would have just waited till release date to download it for free.Other artists in the past have streamed albums before release, and they still sold millions. The thing is, a stream isn't full quality. Which means people get to "test drive" the album so to speak, and it gives them more motivation to buy a full quality version with album art if they like the stream. So what this tells me, is the band is THAT confident their album is THAT good to put their album out early for people to hear. So IMO it's a good idea. Now people get to hear it a week early, and if it's incredible - (which i think it will be) - it's gonna really hype this and it will be a huge pay off.You nailed it right on the head with that one. People who are going to download the album are going to do it regardless if they stream it a week early or not. The fact they are doing this is a big sign of confidence from both the band and the label. It gives people a chance to hear the album without having to download it or buy it... then if they like it they will (hopefully) either buy the album, or at least a ticket to see the show.
rage-love-life Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I personally think it's an alright idea. I mean, we get to hear it beforehand, and see how good it is in terms of the rock opera thing but, as mentioned, nothing beats holding the actual album in your hands and reading the booklet and blasting it on full volume.
Sara Armstrong Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 i'm not going to listen to it, but i'll say it's a bad idea. it's obviously going to hurt album sales.
Anko Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 If I can't buy it then I'ma listen to it some fucking how.I think it's a little of both, maybe it'll rekindle older GD fans who lost interest in them after AI and bring new fans to.But then if you stream the record before it's release then no one would really wanna buy the record because they kinda have it for free. But don't they leave it up for a limited amount of time?
perfectpitchrob Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I don't mind it. I brought the album and that supports green day financially, so it's not like I'm ripping off the band or downloading the music illegally by torrents, I'm just getting the music early. Plus, there's the four bonus songs and lights out/hearts collide that I still have yet to receive afterward.
Rezurgam Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 There are pros and cons to it. As long as the band says ok, then whatever. I think it would've been better though if they only showed like 30 seconds of each song instead of the whole album. It would probably generate as much buzz if not more than playing the whole album.
Jack96 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Good idea for people whho wanna hear it but bad idea for sales oh well!
kongomorgo Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 when it will happens??????? i live in hungary when can i DL the album? (i've already pre-ordered the album)
diylobotomy Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 i think it's a pretty good idea. it's the new marketing technique. that's why bands are releasing one single + video, building up the hype and letting people stream for a week, taking it down, then releasing the album. leaked or not, 21CB is going to fucking massive.
