I already posted this in another thread, but I think there are more people discussing here, so I'm sorry, but I'll post it again.

So... I listened to it and no, I don't regret it. I mean, the band wanted these songs to be played on the radio and they knew that someone would record them, so there's no need to feel guilty. Well, I like EJN... but it's really Nimrod-like and I gotta say that Nimrod is my least favorite album, although I love it when I'm in a special mood somewhere between depressed and angry, so I think for me, EJN is a song for moments like these.

21 guns next or any other suggestions?

I feel like the new stuff makes American Idiot look amateur.

I feel the same way! Who knew 5 years could make such a difference.

I'm not complaining though! :woot:

I love all the falsetto, works really well. This is just divine and magical and spectacular, American Idiot successfully blown out of the water.

Couldn't agree more. The vocals are totally amazing.

I think the emotion of it all struck me by surprise last night really. I had no idea that any other music - other than AI - could ever make me feel like that again, but oh, was I sooo wrong. I absolutely agree with what you said - about that song and the others, too.

And it is even more amazing, because I just didn't expect it to turn out that awesome. I would have loved them for AI forever no matter what they did after that. And now they just made something, that is even better. Or maybe not better, but different and as awesome as AI.

Give me more adjectives to describe the Awesomeness, God damnit!

Wait, why is nobody talking about Before the Lobotomy? That song blew me away the most!

I am just listening to it for the first time in full and you are right. It has totally that Jesus of Suburbia energy and those pompous melodies.

But I definitely need more time to listen to all those songs. At the moment I am just a bit overwhelmed. Not that this feels bad though. :D

I'm falling in love with RHS too

It really wouldn't surprise me if they'd release all these 7 songs as a single. I mean, AI had 5 singles, one of them being a 9 minute song. Then we had a few years without Green Day. I think they won't want to disappear from the spotlights for that long this time.

I'm completely overwhelmed at just how amazing this whole record is sounding... and we only have 6 tracks! I mean, except 'Know Your Enemy.' But now, I think, since hearing the other songs, KYE seems to fit better and sounds better than what it did before. We didn't know what the album would be sounding like. I love 'Before the Lobotomy,' it's just so beautiful. Ahhh gah. I don't know if I was naughty in not waiting.. but at least I waited this long.

I prefer Before The Lobotomy to 21 Guns. It has an amazing Who style rock anthem feel to it and it does take a few listens before it fits like a glove.... It's fuckin amazing, the way they bring the song back round to the melody at the beginning. Fuckin georgous!

awesome

thanks a lot, you made my day

don't worry, we are all sinners.

and yes, someone here said that works somewhere that got to listen to the whole record, and he said all songs make a lot of sense when heard as an album. its even better.

This is so interesting. I can't wait to hear 21 Guns. I haven't heard any of the songs except KYE and Lights Out, but I've read SO much about how great 21 Guns is. There's a poll on this forum about which song should be the next single. I voted for 21 Guns even though I haven't heard it - just on the strength of everything I've read. Now I'm anticipating it even more!

I am just having so much trouble imagining how anything could make AI look amateur. I'm so excited to hear it all now :woot:!!!

Just think - American Idiot, but with a more fleshed out sound. They sound bolder, more full, and way more confident. Then, also think - Billie Joe, showing his best vocal abilities to date (hitting falsettos perfectly).

I mean, you are in for a treat J'Net. We all are. :D

Can someone answer me this (as I refuse to listen to anything until May 15th)...

I've read that 21CB sounds different than the demo. Could someone please make a list of all the changes? I am aware of the lyrical change from "from Mexico to the Berlin wall" to "video games of the towers fall"... but what else? More specifically, please don't tell me they took out the piano in the intro!

Yes. These are the words I was looking for. :)

I don't think we're sinners. The band wanted these songs to be on the internet... sort of :D

Wait.... is American Euology called Modern World? 'Cause I've read a few people saying they liked Mike's vocals on it.. and i'm like... "Wait.. he's got vocals on American Euology."

ROCK THE FUCK OUT, MICHAEL!!

I don't even think these are all the best songs on the album, from what reviewers have said. We don't even have Murder City yet, which from the live version still sounds likes one of their best ever songs!

21 Guns and RHS ftw!!!

During the Irish Jig part (We are the class of 13!) - they did vocal layering. Vocals sound much stronger. On other parts of the song, there is also layering, and just overall much better sound then the demo. In the beginning of the song, Billie hits a note different then the demo. Forgot which lyric it was.

They also gave a boost in the guitar sound, especially the guitar solo at the end of the song, sounds powerful as hell. Urm, right before they bust into the Irish Jig bit, they have the sound effect of a guitar being plugged into an Amp (sort of like Letterbomb, intro). The end of the Irish part where the song breaks into the solo is also different, it lasts a bit longer before fading out. They changed the lyrics to "America SCREAM" whereas in the demo it was "Bleed".

I'm sure there were other changes (even if subtle). Overall, the song sounds MUCH more powerful and heavy.

oh, I'm not sure if non-musicians people noticed, but Before the Lobotomy has a different time signature than all of the other green day songs.

its the first green day song with a different time signature.

u know when on songs you can count to 4 and repeat? like 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4 ? thats a 4/4 time signature. before the lobotomy keeps changing from 4/4 to 7/8. 7/8 means you count 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and repeat. if finishes the phrase 1 count earlier.

if you have the recordings i made, the 7/8 time sig can be heard at 1:22. and everytime that part kicks in. it sounds a bit broken, so to speak.

this time signature can be found on a few rare songs in rock.

dream theater uses loads of weird and different time signatures, i know pink floyd has a song with this same time sig. just not sure of the name now.

American Euology is 2 songs in 1

Modern World and Mass Hysteria :)

And on the new 21st Century breakdown in the first verse the phrase "and the first one to run" has a special tone to it, it breaks from the repetitive tone. Basically besides that one changed lyric I think the main change is more vocal range.

Wow.

I really don't know what to say. I'm honestly speachless.

It's so different from what I expected! Well, I actually never knew what to expect, but I know one thing for sure: Not something like this!

I don't know where to start.

I think the first thing I noticed was that some songs are a lot slower than any Green Day song has ever been. And more sad.

Second point: Sometimes you can clearly hear the influences from other bands. The biggest influence I noticed are The Beatles.

Concerning American Eulogy: Some parts remind me a lot of Deadbeat Holiday and American Idiot.

East Jesus Nowhere: That's what I thought how the new songs would be. Reminds me of a famous song.

21 Guns just makes me cry. There's a famous song which is a lot alike 21 Guns, but I just can't recall the name now.

The same thing with Restless Heart Syndrome.

And the same thing with Before The Lobotomy.

I think they've been influenced a lot in this record. I always hear other songs in them, but I can't exactly name them!

Concerning 21st Century Breakdown I don't have a lot to say. I just liked the version which was released without Green Day's permission more. The lyrics were better. And also the melody in some parts.

This all doesn't mean that I don't like it. It's fantastic, but I'm a little little bit disappointed. I guess I'm just too used to the old Green Day.

Change is always difficult.

EDIT:

Concerning your question random_kangaroo: I have the old lyrics for 21st CB. Do you want them?
