JAS0N Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Probably because it's catchy and will draw more (and possibly new) people towards the album, like they did with American Idiot. That was the first single for the album, and it was catchy as all hell.I'm not sure why anyone on here cares what they pick as singles anyway - the singles aren't for us they're to attract the non-hardcore fans to buy the albums. It was obviously a good choice as well since its already #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart.

billaboy02 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Here's the backmasking in ESJ. I opened it in Audacity and reversed it. It sounds like it's two voices, actually. One in the left which I think is Billie saying "Satan can test me", then something else that moves from the right to the left that sounds like "Don't (something)".http://www.mediafire.com/file/zzy4kwjziym/esj backmasking.mp3

Vanilla Shake Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I'm not sure why anyone on here cares what they pick as singles anyway - the singles aren't for us they're to attract the non-hardcore fans to buy the albums. It was obviously a good choice as well since its already #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart.Oh I know that. I'm assuming Know Your Enemy will be the worst song on the album. It's not that I don't like it, but compared to everything else we've heard now, it doesn't hold a candle. It's too repetitive, or shall I say "redundant". Although I do love the "revolt against the honor to obey" line. That relates to me. I was just answering what's his name as to why they would've chosen the song. It's catchy and will attract non-hardcore fans to check out the album and possibly convert them into die hard Green Day fans like most people here.
