Probably because it's catchy and will draw more (and possibly new) people towards the album, like they did with American Idiot. That was the first single for the album, and it was catchy as all hell.

I'm not sure why anyone on here cares what they pick as singles anyway - the singles aren't for us they're to attract the non-hardcore fans to buy the albums. It was obviously a good choice as well since its already #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart.

Your not a punk. Your a 14 year old teenie.

If you declare yourself 'punk' then you're not punk. Any true punk would know that. Just like you don't wear the shirt of the band at the show of their's you're going to see

And from what I've experienced actual punks are pretty nice people.

Just like you don't wear the shirt of the band at the show of their's you're going to see

haha I purposely did that at the Green Day show at the DNA lounge.

1.) I don't hear that satan reference thing in East Jesus Nowhere

2.) I'm jealous of all of you with the awesome headphones...I got mine off an airplane.

3.) I'm afraid of the flaring temper in this thread.

It's there.

i think it's totally creepy!!

it reminds me of the beginning of Knowledge

lol I never even thought of that.

Agree with 1 & 3

Starbug, I think you're just hearing things that you want to hear :D

Nuh uh! I'm not the only one that hears it. Zoe and Beth hear it, too. Someone else heard it, too. Believe me, it is there. Headphone man. Headphones. It's there. 24 second mark.

I disagree.

I think it's bad to wear a shirt of ANOTHER band to a show you're going to  That bugs me.

you are WAY too Punk for this community, go, go do some "anarchism" or disagree in how your mom does your bed or how she makes your cookies and stirs your chocolate milk

Here's the backmasking in ESJ. I opened it in Audacity and reversed it. It sounds like it's two voices, actually. One in the left which I think is Billie saying "Satan can test me", then something else that moves from the right to the left that sounds like "Don't (something)".

I knew that would happen. If she kept pushing, people would start pushing back. Even though they started out being nice to her.

*tsk tsk* n00bs...

I'm geeking out over 21 Guns still. It makes me happy and sad. Bittersweet song. I love it so much.

Oh I know that. I'm assuming Know Your Enemy will be the worst song on the album. It's not that I don't like it, but compared to everything else we've heard now, it doesn't hold a candle. It's too repetitive, or shall I say "redundant". Although I do love the "revolt against the honor to obey" line. That relates to me. I was just answering what's his name as to why they would've chosen the song. It's catchy and will attract non-hardcore fans to check out the album and possibly convert them into die hard Green Day fans like most people here.
