It could be a sample of Elvis saying something.

no, I think I know it's that.

Oh for My Generation it's "I think I can do it"

Actually, it's:

"I think I can do The Who..."

because the song was originally done by The Who. :)

At what point in the song is that? I can't find it for the life of me

It's the first thing Billie says!

He whispers it, (well, more like mumbles) so it's kind of low... but it's at the VERY start of the song.

Ah, now I hear it. On GDA it says that it's "way down in the mix" and I misunderstood that as somewhere in the middle, or a couple of seconds after the intro started or something.

There is a really old article, I believe it's from one of the old Green Day 7 inch records or an old magazine, that explains what Mike says in the middle of Private Ale. I don't remember it exactly, but part was 'crystal-crackin, leaf lovin, ha, la la la lemon'

The mystery is solved.

do you remember the month/year it came out? if i was before '94, which it most likely is, then it's probably lost forever..

Back in the summer of 2000 there was a contest on one of the Green Day fansites... it might have been Greenday.net or Greendaysite.com, I don't remember, but whoever figured out what Mike was saying in that song won an autographed whatever, so I listened to the song over and over again, and could only make out the same thing every time, which is not even close to what he actually says, but now every single time I listen to the song all I hear is "Hey don't see huggin' glass, you can burn Molly crystal crackin' Pete buggin' ha.... l-l-lemon"...

I know he says something about a hippie driving a lemon, but I haven't cared enough to figure it out.

No. The catalog was from maybe 99-2000 era.

Hey, I know this is kinda unrelated but I need to ask. Does anybody know who the girl is that recites the nobody likes you lines at the beginning of the song "Letterbomb" on American Idiot?

Thanks so much! I've been wondering that for 4 years! Weird you mention Bikini Kill. A family friend was just mentioning how he liked them. Now I can tell him that a member participated on a Green Day record!

A friend burned the CD for me. That was the first Green Day CD I ever listened to. I never had an original copy. Before I looked here I looked for credits at wikipedia but couldn't find them

^ It's funny the other band Billie Joe's in, Pinhead Gunpowder, have a song called 'Kathleen' about Kathleen Hanna. Billie sings on it, it's a great song. So you could tell him that too

OK, guys, how about this? I gather up all of the versions of what people think Mike says in Private Ale. When I have enough, I make a poll on which one we think is correct so that we can ultimately come up with a decision.

Alright, let's wait for more versions...

"crystal-crackin' leaf lovin' ha, la la la lemon"

The crystal is methamphetamine. Leaf-lovin....self-explanatory. Now i'm 100% certain that it's about weed and meth.

You guys all sound like me. I LOVE to just sit and listen intensely to find every little sound. Like the cough at the beginning of 'Pasalacqua', and the muttering in 'My Generation', and every word of 'Dominated Love Slave', and the cheering at the end of 'Dry Ice'......but everyone knows those.

BTW, I dont know is this is right, but I think the thing at the beginning of 'Knowledge' is "Let's get personal" backwards. Maybe. If my memory serves me right.

You can also hear someone laughing (Mike?) at the very end of "Too Much Too Soon" just after the last note. There is also some song that after the last note Tre shuffles with his drumsticks. I've always wondering what the thing at the beginning of Knowledge is. I tried to reverse it with audacity but I couldn't hear anything.
