tapdancingowl Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Thanks Mommy's Little Nightmare. Honestly, after reading it I only have one thought.Seriously, dude? Stop using phrases like "snarky navel-gazing toward a rancorous agitprop". It doesn't make you sound any cooler.
suicidexmakeover Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 i honestly can't be bothered to read it.It;s just lots of long words put together to make this guy sound original and cooldick
W Axl Rose Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Looks like it's cooooool to bash Green Day again. It's okay though. I got used to it between 1997-2003.DJ RossstarWhy is his opinion any less valid than the guy who licked the albums balls in Rolling Stone? If anything that Sheffield guy in RS is known for swinging from the nuts of Britney Spears. I think it is funny how the RS review is taken as gospel and this guys opinion is dismissed.
suicidexmakeover Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 reviews to me are pointless. i you like a band you will listen to their album. if you like the album you listen to it some more. who cares what some guy says about it.

If anything that Sheffield guy in RS is known for swinging from the nuts of Britney Spears. I think it is funny how the RS review is taken as gospel and this guys opinion is dismissed.i think most people (me included) aren't bothered if there is a negative review, so long as it is balanced and well written. when it isn't balanced and well written is when there is a problem.
ScreamsInSilence815 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I don't read reviews because I don't particulary care what critics think.My thoughts exactly.

It is also silly to say that reviewers can't have opinions if they don't make music.

But... you get my point.

It is also silly to say that reviewers can't have opinions if they don't make music.to be honest i haven't read this review, and i haven't read every post in this thread. so im not really sure if/why people are bashing the reviewer.
mad hatter. Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 You can't please everyone; we already knew that.
valeria carci Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 ^ so very righti'm okay with us here being happy
thisisAB Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 What pisses me off is how every interview must mention that Longview has masturbation in it. That's like the only thing the media picked up from dookie. Whatever, this review sucked because it had the word 'Wii' in it.
The Judges Daughter Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I thought it was a really good read:/I mean the reviewer gives some basic legitimate gripes with the albums backbone, but he doesnt completely damn it to hell.Although he completely labours the idea of "who Green Day are" and this detracts majorly from any comment on the music.Aside from that?Decent.
Eirik Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I agree with the comments made about the Longview reference. Also, SPIN gave the 21stCB preivew tracks they heard back in February a quite great review. I believe they used the L-word actually.
chatnoir Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I haven't heard the full album yet, so I don't know, if they are right. But I can't argue, that Green Day are "raging within the machine" rather than against. I don't want to start this whole major label debate, but it is true, that if you are singing about starting a revolution, well, some choices just give you more credibility than others. And I don't really like most art critics in general.
Anja Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 "[...]yet he keeps rewriting "Good Riddance"[...]"Hmm, I must have missed that. Interesting read though.
Boston Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I don't read reviews because I don't particulary care what critics think.
Starbug Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 70 Minutes! And I didn't think that the review was that terribly negative. It had its bits, but it was a damn sight better than that clashmusic review. That one was just rude and hateful :/
Captain Pasalacqua Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 There's gonna be a negative review for everything. No big deal.

That's like the only thing the media picked up from dookie. Whatever, this review sucked because it had the word 'Wii' in it.I shall wholly agree with you. The article wasn't awful, though - I got through the whole thing fine; sort of interesting. However, I've never really been big fan of Spin magazine. :/
Hermione Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 What pisses me off is how every interview must mention that Longview has masturbation in it. That's like the only thing the media picked up from dookie.I agree. How many many many times have I seen "..from a band who used to sing about masturbation..."? It's just totally lazy writing. That was hardly the worst review in the world, the unnecessary digs spoil it though, and I can't say I agree with much of it . The part I disagree with most is "Armstrong is better at voicing gripes than offering solutions". I've always thought one of the key differences between Billie's songwriting and a lot of his peers is he does see the light at the end of the tunnel and look for a solution instead of just moaning. It sets their work apart from the pointless whining you hear from some bands. I can't understand where the reviewer's coming from there at all.
SOMERTEN Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Im sick of these morons that keep going on about Dookie (most of them were about 5 years old when it came out). It happend so long ago and every Green Day album has some fantastic songs on it. It must really piss the band off big time.I also expected all the reviews to be along the lines of quoting about masterbation and 'Not as good as American Idiot' They're so fuckin predictable and bland. The only reason half these twats gave American idiot a good review is because people expected them to slag Green Day off. I mean we all know how cutting edge these music journos are (not...)As for that Clash music review (an insult to the memory of the Clash) 'on a critical level it falls a long way short' is the best compliment he can give, who wants to agree with the critics? . I've marked this bastards card. On reading this review jus scroll down his pathetic attempt at flowery dialogue and get to the final 'I'm jealous cos the band are rich and successful and a genuis like me is stuck in theis shitty office' line.I think we should start up a reviews page where we can disect twaddle like this and review it, give them a taste of their own medicine!
