Moxy Crimefighter Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 awesome! thanks so much for posting.my god that drawing infuriates me, why is it that just about every peice of artwork in rolling stone makes me go all art nazi?
alexandrez Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 No problem guys, just wanted to get it up for everyone here. thanks kate.=]
Katarina. Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Nice!Wow, 4.5 stars, they should've given it 5, but great anyway
petrina_678 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 what an awesome review ! really gets me excited about the album!!! i really do believe this album is on a higher level than AI
justcause Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 The way they seemed to just dismiss all their earlier work put my back up a bit, but then it turned into a decent review I think it was kind of a lightweight review, and for it to start off with 'since Green Day were the Nineties punk brats nobody expected to grow up, everything they do comes as a surprise' only shows a lack of perception on the reviewer's part. He gives the same old hackneyed, surface reference to Longview, without even registering the seething energy and self-perception in that song - and yeah, it's like nothing happened between Dookie and American Idiot. I realize that a review like this has only a small wordcount to talk about a really big album, but fuckit, spare me the 'who woulda thunk it?', patronizing shit and just talk about the album on its own merits.
masshysteria1 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Fantastic! 4 1/2! Does anyone remember what RS rated AI in their review?
J'net Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Fantastic! 4 1/2! Does anyone remember what RS rated AI in their review?3 1/2Here's a link to the AI review.
Peel Slowly And See Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Rolling Stone still has amazing reviews. It's just their ratings that have trouble. Can you believe that they handed Working On A Dream and No Line On The Horizon five stars? I love Bruce Springsteen and U2 is fine, too, but my word.
Juliette Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 God I want this so bad. Thanks a million for typing it up
Hermione Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I think it was kind of a lightweight review, and for it to start off with 'since Green Day were the Nineties punk brats nobody expected to grow up, everything they do comes as a surprise' only shows a lack of perception on the reviewer's part. I mean I know it's kind of the standard quick way to introduce anything about Green Day these days, but it still annoys me because it just isn't accurate. If they're going to do it in that cliched way they should just skip it and only talk about 21st CB. Although having said that I did like what they had to say about the new album when they got to it.
b u r n o u t Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Awesome thanks Kate. Can't say I'm thrilled at the fact this seems like a direct sequel to American Idiot, but I still welcome it and will give it a fair chance. Weird that of all the bands out there pushing boundaries, it's Green Day. Much respect.
Kate Austen Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 ^^^^This is the magazine with the review. I believe it is out today!
Eldoon Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 hahah that's one of the best/worst Rolling Stone covers I've seen in a while. "The Dirtiest Girl in Porn" what the fuck hahaha. Ol' Bob is lookin' good though.good going on the transcribing, Kate! Glad RS is pulling out the big guns on this one - they've been underrating GD for a while now...
Rob Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 It's funny. I was just thinking about what Rolling Stone was gonna say about this album. That's two major reviewers giving the album a better rating than AI now. And the exact guy who reviewed 21cb from Rolling Stone also reviewed AI. Good sign indeed...
Guest Hayley Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 That's awesome. Actually it's a great review. Thanks for posting.
xaristotlex Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Thanks for the transcription! I think this is a good review, although it is a bit funny that the reviewer seems to think so highly of AI when he had previously rated it a 3.5.
Foxboron Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 my own review:after listening to know you enemy, there was no doubt: 5 STAR's!
justcause Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Hey, I neglected to say thanx to Kate for typing all of that out - so thanx, much appreciated!!
