I would recommend Nimrod as well. That album has a song that can fit everyone's mood and taste. It's got that seriousness to it with songs like Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) and Scattered, but also has those kind of Dookie immaturity vibe with songs like Hitchin A Ride and The Grouch. Then there're songs that relate to everyday life liek Redundant and Walking Alone. Then some songs that you can take your anger out to like Platypus (I Hate You) and Jinx.

It's really an album for everyone :)

As much as I adore American Idiot, I would recommend International Superhits! It's mostly "old" Green Day, but yet I feel like the singles are broad enough that it gives people a taste of what their older albums are all about, but since they were indeed singles, I think they're more "radio friendly" like the songs on American Idiot that some may like as well. The album is a good segue to old albums and the "new" sound.

I agree with this :)

International Superhits! has a pretty amazing selection of songs.

all of 'em. : )

Actually Bullet in a Bible would be good.

It has both AI and IS songs and is awesome.

I'd reccommend International Superhits because it has a mix from all their albums.

I think that's a great place to start its where I started and then I got AI and Insomniac shortly after.

:D

I would have to go with Nimrod, just because it was basically in the middle of their career and when you listen to the album, some of the songs have the same feel to them as older Green Day songs, and yet some sound more like their newer stuff. The album has a great variety and has a good number of songs on it. It was the first Green Day album that I listened to. So I'd suggest either that album or International Superhits.

International Superhits! of course. And then I'd ask the person what song they liked the best and then I would make them listen to the songs original album.

THIS...

Agreed with Nimrod. And also because it's my favorite album of theirs. :D

I don't think you could show a person any one album for them to truly KNOW Green Day, but AI would definitely get them hooked. If you think about it, everyone has heard BOBD or WMUWSE on the radio before, so having those songs in the mix would give the person a familiar tune. And besides that, AI was their 1st punk rock opera and is fucking amazing. But every Green Day album has its own pros and cons. (More like heros and cons!!!!! teehee bad joke)

That is very true. I think that each of their albums kind of show different sides to their personalities, just because each album sounds so different. Their first two albums, 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours and Kerplunk, kind of shows their innocence, Insomniac kind of shows their aggression, and American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown shows more of their mature side.

Nimrod or Warning, just because I adore the sounds on those two albums. Nimrod has such a variety of sounds, and warning was just so funky in its own right. :D

I would never recommend 39/Smooth to anyone as a first Green Day album. It doesn't sound like any of their other music, as is the case with many first albums. Its not really even that good.

Kerplunk or 21st Century Breakdown.

That's odd. Their most poppy album versus their most mature album.

I disagree. 1039SOSH has quite a raw sound to it because it is their first record. I have so many favourites on that album I've lost count, definitely an album I would suggest to a new fan.

as well as Nimrod of course.

I'd say Nimrod because it's so diverse. Some songs sound like they could be on the newer albums, but some sound like they could be on 'Kerplunk!'

Maybe International Superhits! because it gives the listener a little taste of what each of their mainstream albums (up to Warning) sound like.

International Superhits! and American Idiot for sure. If JUST one then I'd pick Nimrod definitely.

I didn't even think of that! That would be another good choice, because not only would it show off the great songs, but how wonderful they are live.

I would choose 21st Century Breakdown because it's my favorite album and it's the newest one.

I totally disagree with you. Like Tiffx said, it has a nice, authentic, raw sound to it which I think is one of the reason why I love it so much. I think it gives a listener a different sound to Green Day, just because so many people, when they think of Green Day, they think "Dookie" or "American Idiot" right away. I really find it sad that a lot of them don't even recognize Green Day's two other albums before Dookie. 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours is my 2nd favorite Green Day album, just behind Kerplunk! I just love those two albums to death, because they're special. Just because the music is simple and the lyrics are simple and it doesn't sound like anything else that Green Day has done doesn't mean that it's not good. I know that's just your opinion, but to me I think that the first two albums were amazing, especially considering how young they were at the time. Those first two albums for me are right above 21st Century Breakdown, which is my 3rd favorite. Which I find it kind of funny that my 2nd favorite album was their first album and then my 3rd is their most recent. xD I guess that means that I love all the sounds to Green Day's albums.

One thing that I can kind of agree with you on is the fact that it shouldn't be anyone's first Green Day album. As much as I love that album, I think that Nimrod or International Superhits would be better choices just because of the variety. There's a better chance that the person may like all of the sounds to Green Day's albums if they listened to one of those first, because the other albums are strictly one kind of sound or theme. For example, If someone were to listen to Dookie and then American Idiot, those two albums are so different with the sound, in my opinion, if someone were to listen to an album like Nimrod, there's a better chance that they'll like both Dookie and American Idiot. At least, that's how it was for me. (Nimrod was my first GD album)
