...staples? Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Dookie FTW! Or Kerplunk! I think they would both be great for a new listener
Guest Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 kerplunk, or 21st century breakdown.it depends on the person.
greendaytone Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Nimrod because it got me into Green Day.Any of them! But, yeah Nimrod was the one for me, and it show's Green Day's array of music best of all. It's a pivotal album in the band's history.
ThePeacemaker Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Keep it simple, International Superhits, so they get a taste for the old stuff, and then American Idiot
persons Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 anything except 21CB, a new listener should wait a little to hear it, besides that any of them.
Jack96 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Id reccomend Dookie probably or ISH then let them hear AI and 21stCB so they dont listen to the new stuff and be like the old stuff is shit just becaus eits different
iLozza! Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Nimrod, because it has everything on it. Angry music, an instrumental, acoustic, and just for the fact that it's just an awesome album.
amrith888 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I definitely wouldn't recommend any of their albums to someone who'd never heard anything by them (of course, this hypothetical person would have had to have been living under a rock for the past decade). I'd choose a couple good songs that represent their different styles and make a mix CD.Funny you should say that because I recently made a friend who is 38 and she told me that she'd never heard any Green Day,after I told her I was so excited to finally be going to one of their concerts.I couldn't BELIEVE such a thing was possible (even my parents who are in their 70's know of and have heard Green Day!!).So,I sang a chorus off of a few popular Green Day songs--still nothing. So I made her a mix CD and included my favorite songs and ones I thought best represented Green Day and she loved it.
Rbka Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I'd probably have them listen to International Superhits first. Then I'd go through each album, tell them what I think of each one, and allow them to choose for themselves.
louizex Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 dookie or american idiot, they are the ones that tend to grab people
Boston Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I would recommend American Idiot because it captures Green Day's punk vibe, both in the ideas it presents and in the style of the music. It also has different types of rock - arena-type, ballad-y, etc. Along with those qualities, American Idiot had a lot of hit singles. It begins to showcase them as "The Beatles of our time", but its not as intense as 21st Century Breakdown. I believe the reason that AI was so successful is because it has the perfect mixture of catchiness and greatness, and its a great introduction album to the band (as is proven by the 10 million plus people who also thought so).
gnash Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I think the best way to introduce someone now would be to give them both International Superhits and American Idiot. I wouldn't give them one of the older albums (anything up to Insomniac) as they don't sound as polished as the newer stuff IMO (production-wise I mean, not quality - in fairness they are 15-20 years old), so start with the 'greatest hits' explaining that 'this is what GD USED to sound like' and then give them American Idiot, with the lyric booklet, and tell them to listen to it all the way through, explaining that the recent albums are more than just a collection of songs.
RhayaOnTheHill Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Nimrod or Warning. It two of the best albums they have ever created.Agreed
Snorri Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 International Superhits! of course. And then I'd ask the person what song they liked the best and then I would make them listen to the songs original album.
Reality Is Due Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Hmmm... I don't know. It really depends on the listener. Maybe International Superhits so they could get a taste of the mix of songs on there and then either Dookie or Nimrod.
