musse Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I love Castaway because its bass line. I love Mike. He's such an amazing bassist. It's nice he hasn't been just the background in the songs and I really really hope that won't change...Uh, I'm sooo tired -.- It's all yoga's fault. Sorry.
steelthorne Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 They're there but just got covered up with the stuff that they used. There's a good bass solo in Holiday and Boulevard of Broken Dreams.im sorry but theres no way i agree with that. the bass line in holiday is good, but still extremely basic compared to his old basslines and blvd has no bass solo what are you talking about
tq6993 Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Holy shit I know what you mean. Mike's bass lines are one of the many reasons why I love Dookie. I really like that stripped down, bare bones sound on that album. I've never been a fan of adding multiple instruments in anyways. I think if you start a band you should use those instruments. Green Day are a 3 peice. So they should just use what they started with which is 1 guitar, 1 bass, and 1 drumkit. If they thought they needed a 2nd guitarist then why didnt they get someone to play 2nd guitar for em back in the Gilman days? There music is still kickass. I just think that it could use more bass and less 2nd guitar. But eh, its not my band so who am i to judge
minority0223 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 i think billies a better singer/lyricist than a guitarist. i mean, he rocks at guitar, but when you hear his voice.... its.......incredible
TheBullwinkle Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 isn't this a 'mike's basslines' thread? It sure is. Which reminded me, I watched them playing "86" on Letterman earlier, and Mike was tearing that fucker up.
Starbug Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 It sure is. Which reminded me, I watched them playing "86" on Letterman earlier, and Mike was tearing that fucker up. I love watching Mike tear that fucker up And boy can he. I like watching his fingers slide up and down the neck of that bass. It's almost sexual. No, not almost. It is.

It's almost sexual. No, not almost. It is.I was about to say, there is nothing almost sexual about Mike. It's amazing to watch him play live. He's got, like, 18 fingers on his left hand.
Juan Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 In the world of Punk, there's the holy trinity (+1) of great bass playersWe have Matt Freeman from Rancid, Fat Mike from NOFX, Jay Bentley from Bad Religion and Mike Dirnt from Green Day.Look no further, that's all you need. *you may noticed I left Paul Simonon away, he was awesome too, but he's not close with the 4 guys*

Juan Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I would have to agree, especially with the Matt Freeman and Mike Dirnt choices Idiots are taking over, by NOFX has a ridiculous bass line
TheBullwinkle Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I would have to agree, especially with the Matt Freeman and Mike Dirnt choices I concur. Although, I would replace Jay with Paul Simonon just because of how foxy he was back in the day.
Juan Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I concur. Although, I would replace Jay with Paul Simonon just because of how foxy he was back in the day. but then the chains fucks up. You see every bass player has only 1 degree of separation between each other, while Paul is one continent away. Besides Jay plays complicated shit
TheBullwinkle Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 but then the chains fucks up. You see every bass player has only 1 degree of separation between each other, while Paul is one continent away. Besides Jay plays complicated shitYeah, but I'm shallow, Juan. Let me be shallow.
