MrGreenDayUK Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 ^They probably came up with the name without the RATM song even entering their minds. And if they realised afterwards it would be pretty lame to get rid of the name they'd carefully chosen to fit the song just because of a coincidence. They didn't change the name of Holiday after the realised it was also a Madonna song Woops, didn't mean 'named after', meant to write 'given it the same name as'. Or summat.
Hermione Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Woops, didn't mean 'named after', meant to write 'given it the same name as'. Or summat. Ha OK. I actually haven't heard that RATM song , but I'm curious to hear it now.
MrGreenDayUK Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Ha OK. I actually haven't heard that RATM song , but I'm curious to hear it now.It is epic... I shall find you a link.
Hermione Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 ^Thanks, that was great! I like a bit of Rage Against The Machine from time to time, I should really've checked out more of their stuff by now. What album is that from?I have room for two brilliant Know Your Enemy's in my life

chickin'pickin' Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Can't say I agree with that one. I think the lyrics are great. Effective and to the point - just right for a protest, and the repetition hits the message home even further.Silence is the enemyAgainst your urgencySo rally up the demons of your soulWhat a brilliant line Yeah.... not working for me.Green Day need to have pulled their socks up, or else the upcoming album could be a complete turkey.
Katarina. Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 It's catchy, but a bit repetitive... just to keep it short
Comrade Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 Yeah.... not working for me.Green Day need to have pulled their socks up, or else the upcoming album could be a complete turkey. It's a song designed for the radio that just happens to have a pretty decent meaning. Ultimately it can't be judged as much more than this. Tere will be better songs on the album of course, but it is by no means a bad song. Critics are already seemingly giving the new album more praise than AI got. It must mean good things.

Lady Liberty Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Any one else think they shouldn't have named it after a fucking brilliant RATM song? Kind of gives it a lot to live up to. The riff in the Rage song is absolutely killer.Yeah it really annoys me, I know it shouldn't.
arrie44 Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Matter of opinion. I happen to think Know your Enemy is an abysmal song by a band as big as Green Day.Let's hope you're right about the album...No doubt, especially following American Idiot this song is a major buzz kill. I've been talking up this Green Day comeback to my friends for 6 months and now I look pretty silly. I'm sure the album will be great, but this song is not. Let's hope this is the Extraordinary Girl of 21CB.
Paper_Lantern Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 This song is really growing on me. It's got that feeling that just makes you wanna stand up and scream and just jump around. Not many songs do that anymore, especially from Green Day. American Idiot, Minority, Hitchin a Ride, Welcome to Paradise... off the top of my head. But it's a great kickass song. And I liked Extraordinary Girl!
Comrade Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 Matter of opinion. I happen to think Know your Enemy is an abysmal song for a band as big as Green Day.Let's hope you're right about the album...Honestly, as a fan, I do believe the song is poor. But as a causual radio listener it's not too bad at all. Most my friends and people I know don't give a toss about the music they listen to. If they hear a decent song on the radio, they'll get it. S far a fair few of these people have heard it and gotten it, either from Limewire or itunes (I point them to itunes, obvs) becuase they think it sounds cool and don't think about it. As soon as you start to analyse a song it's flaws become a whole lot more obvious. But as you say, it isn't a song that knocks people off their feet like say BOBD was.
Hermione Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Debut self titled. One of the best on there, I reckon Sounds good, I only have one of their albums so I shall check it out.
