Green Day are my Beatles.

Actually I think they are a hell of a lot better than the Beatles. I'll probably get shot for saying this, but I hate the Beatles.

the Beatles sound better than Green Day on vinyls, but i can't stand to listen to the Beatles all the time. you have to be in a cheerful, happy mood to listen to them.

anyways, i grew up listening to Green Day from birth. my sister is a huge fan and i can remember picking up a little guitar and jammin' out to Brain Stew. i would sing their songs all the time. i think around 8 or 9 i quit listening to them. i had a friend who showed me the American Idiot music video in 5th grade, and i thought it was dumb; to this day i think that music video and song are dumb. it was a spark though, he bought the CD and we listened to it. i thought it was okay at first, he would later trade in his Green Day fandom for Screamo and Rap. then i used to like a girl who loved Green Day, so she got me really interested. she sent me a link to GDA one day for some random reason, and i used to think Andres was a demigod. now, he's just a sexual goddess. then i liked them for about three years, until this July. i couldn't stand listening to them, i had my itunes on shuffle and i unclicked all the Green Day songs. they all just sounded the same, i mean i could decipher which song it was, but they were just so boring. i mean i guess you can still call me a fan in the slightest way possible, but they're not my favorite band anymore. i'm not at the point where i hate the band, but i don't worship them anymore.

in short, i was in for the long haul. now, i'm not.

i love green day to death , i'll die for them! (ok maybe not...)

but seriously , i check on GDA many times a day, even those months when we had like one update a month :( .

I started singing/guitar because of them . I formed a band because of them .

THey are my inspiration ! in the way i live life and how i dress ... They are everything to me. I cant imagine life without them. I used to listen to AI 3 times a day, everyday. I still listen to them loads.

I think Green Day will, to some extent, always matter to me. Even if some day I don't love them as much as I do now (which I doubt will happen), I feel like they've been such a huge part of my life for so long that it's bound to leave a mark. It doesn't happen often, but I have at times been angry with a choice that Green Day have made, and in the end I've always returned to them. I love Green Day, I respect them and appreciate them. I love how Billie Joe can take emotions and thoughts and word them so wonderfully in a song. And then when that song gets put to the music, they always manage to create something amazing. I'm fairly certain that I'm in it for the long run.

They became my Beatles in a lot of ways...it is hard to explain. It was like the torch was passed on and I never looked back.

I shouldn't think you would be shot for hating The Beatles. There is some music that just is not for everyone.

hahaha... i liked this.

Thank you. I'm here 'til Tuesday. Don't forget to tip your waitresses.

I'd just like to say that as a fan in it for the long haul, you don't, and you shouldn't, have to love everything green day does. Blind adoration and approval does not make for a good fan.

Also, if someone genuinely understands your love for green day, but comments that their newer stuff sucks or is not as good as their earlier work, just say this:

"Green Day is like crack: the high you get from each successive album may not always be as exciting or wonderful as it was that first time you fell in love with their music, but damnit, you still need the fix!"

Green Day are my Beatles.

Actually I think they are a hell of a lot better than the Beatles. I'll probably get shot for saying this, but I hate the Beatles.

They are certainly not the Beatles. Personally, the beatles have become a band that one is obligated to like. Also, the members of the beatles each had an ego too big for the band to support. The lot ended up hating each other.

And John Lennon was a fake hippie, rich phony douchebag who treated people poorly and was generally a bastard, regardless of all the good he did for the world, if any.

Plus, the Beatles' fame and praise stayed constant in the nearly half century since their existence. Green Day suffered a huge fallout of fans, and has yet to regain the credibility that they once had.

I say they are my Beatles because I follow Green Day like some people are obcessed with the Beatles. Like when I was in high school, I went to this girl I hated to do a project and her parents had a whole room that was a shrine to the Beatles. :/

I say The Beatles are my Beatles and Green Day is my Green Day.

These bands are very complimentary to each other. They are similar in their own weird, special ways.

There's no other two bands that are perfect to listen to together.

Will I be in the long haul? hm...

Lets see in two years if I get the shock guy logo tattooed on my forearm.

Cause everyone says I'm going to not like 'em at all in two years. And we know everyone else is right. :D

Note de sarcasm plz. above. minus teh tattoo part.

These guys are forever in my heart...and they will always be. Even if I stop sporting the T-shirts or blasting there Cds EVERYDAY. They opened that door to good music for. The Clash, The Ramones, The Who, The Beatles and all those other fucking great mother fucking bands. Green Day is the reason I got into them. Or discovered them... O_o [/novel] tehe

Thank God. I do not like them very much either. I was scared that I was the only one.

Well for me it's weird because my love for Green Day comes and goes. For example, I'll listen to them for a while, but then listen to the Germs and the Dead Kennedy's for a while. Then I'll go back to Green Day. And back to Germs again. It goes back and forth, really. To be honest, I'm not as obsessed with them as I was when I first heard them. I was crazy then. I was like looking up pictures and interviews and youtube videos and stuff every second. But it kinda faded once I heard some other music that I'm into now, like the Adolescents and NOFX. I dunno. I guess I can admit to being not very loyal to the band we're all on this forum for. But I still like them.

You may hate the Beatles... but there's no denying they're good.

For example, I don't like Led Zeppelin or listening to any of their music at all, but I still think they're a really good band.

They're just not what I like to listen to.

Of course. Listening to the same band for a long time is hard to do.

Especially because Green Day doesn't have 39048309483084 different songs.

The reason why you used to look them up all the time was because they were new to you. When you discover something new, you're curious, and you want to look into it more. Now that you know a lot about them, you don't care as much.

I'd say I'm in for the long haul; I've been listening since I was in the womb.

Society obligates anyone who is a fan of rock music to like the Beatles, because they're so 'influential,' and 'groundbreaking.'

How is that possible? Unless your mother bought 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours when it first came out and played it. Or she had the LPs (which if she did, must be quite valuable), or she had some sweet children lps.

Explain?

when i started listening to green day everyone was into them, they all knew the lyrics for at least american idiot and bobd, that was in 07, i believe: ai came out in 04, so theyre not gonna fade fast.

today those kids dont care too much bout green day anymore but i do

OK, three years is not much, i listen to lots of stuff: from coldplay to slipknot and going to weirder like the gypsy kings, but every time i listen to green day i kinda remember why i got into them at first

andres is right but still i think that, whit time , ill be even a bigger green day fan

Actually, I've been listening since I was sperm, now that I think about it. My parents used to go see them at Gilman and other places around the Bay Area. And yes, my dad bought 39/Smooth and played it for my mammy and I was born a month and 10 days later. Good enough?

I will always love Green Day, just because I fell in love with everything about them when AI came out doesn't mean I'm not a diehard fan!

I have all their albums and love each one!

For me they can do no wrong, can't wait for them to be all over my TV and in all the magazines again!

I need to write more about how the guys have inspired me in so many ways and shit, and without sounding like a retard and not being able to quite explain myself. Before I started to get REALLY into Green Day again around '03, I got my first guitar, a blue electric, just basic, nothing fancy.. anyway! I tried so hard to learn the guitar but it was so hard to me, like, I had bad fingering on the frets and had no fucking clue, and I was trying so hard. And because I couldn't get anywhere with it, I sold it.

Then, about a year or two later, when BIAB was released, I was watching that on repeat all day long and, by this time I had a new electric guitar, but this one's black.. I started to see just where Billie was holding the strings and it came to me just like that. So, in a way, they helped me learn how to play guitar, bass and drums. I think I'm more crazy about them now then I was 2 years ago, which was quite a lot. I just can't wait for the day when I'm able to say how much they've inspired me... if I ever get that chance and for it to last longer than 5 seconds or however long it takes for someone to say "MOVE ALONG!!"

I know what you mean, Green Day's done a lot more for me than just getting more interested in music, but I honestly have no other way of expressing that and my gratitude for it than acting like a crazy moron and buying every bit of merchandise I can. And endlessly making fun of Billie.

Haha, oh and I've probably forgot a million other things about why I know I'll stick around with Green Day. Most of their fans are the nicest people in the world, and most of them totally get the humour, if you know what I mean? They also opened up the door to a FUCK load of other bands that I never even knew I would like/heard of. Like, The Phenomenauts etc... And also, just... I've met so many amazing people through this band than any other artist in my life.. Katy Perry fans are.... either really dumb or teenie, no offence, but they are; The Matches - Just a small clique group on their message board that have their own inside jokes and just take the piss whenever they can. I never felt comfortable in there at all. 30STM - inferior bunch of cunts who'll pick on anybody, no matter how young or old.

But with here, you don't really get that inferiority complex or people trying to act like they know more shit than the next idiot who happens to come along. And most of these fans are just as crazy as I am, which makes me feel like I'm truely, not alone.

I'm definitely in for the long haul, I have no doubt about that.

I listen to all kinds of music and there's lots of things that I like. But Green Day I love, and it's not only the music but the whole package.

I've never been one to listen to a band and say how much I love them just to throw them away after some time.

If I really get so much into somebody, they're here to stay for a very, very long time.

So yeah, Green Day is one of my 3 loves, the other 2 being the Beatles and David Bowie.

Btw, I think it's funny how many Beatles haters there are. And no, you don't have to like them but there's no way denying that they were influential and groundbreaking.

Have you ever noticed just how much a song like "Pulling Teeth" resembles mid-60s Beatles? Even Billie's voice and singing style remind me of John Lennon quite a bit...

Let me just rant about something here. So on the Nimrod of the Week app I have the question, What Era did you become a Green Day fan? I have all these fucking 13-17 year olds telling me Dookie/Kerplunk! Era. How is that fucking possible, you weren't even fucking CONCIEVED YET! You probably weren't even a fucking idea for your parents. ARGH! I delete those.

:( I'm almost 19. Am I one of those cunt nuggets? I honestly learned the lyrics to "When I Come Around" before I learned the alphabet.
