Astrid. Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I'm having the same thing as I had with listening to Christie Road for the first time=
greendepent Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Here's my theory on Know Your Enemy:It's a good song, but I would have never chosen it as a single. It reminds me of both 'Jaded' and 'Jinx,' because both songs are good, but are even better when played with their counterpart (Brainstew/Haushinka). KYE sounds like a song that should have come after a much bigger song, and cut down to around 1 minute and 30 seconds. You will always hear Brainstew on the radio, or even Brainstew/Jaded, but you would never hear just Jaded. It just wouldn't have the same effect on the listener. Anyone agree with me?DJ RossstarBut KYE is the track 3 of the album, after 21stcb, and, the radio never put 8 minutes song followed....BJ is a idiot for leave behind to Lights Out....
OWfx Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 How did that site manage to get hold of a 30second clip of Lights Out before anyone else?!?!
Guest Shangri-La Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 the second half sounds like supermodel robots or something.i don't like it.
The Disappearing Boy Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Wait, this was ditched in favour of that Know your enemy shit on the album? This song is much, much better.i was thinking, 'why is this song (lights out) not on the album'?but perhaps the rest of the album is just better than this and KYE

Mommy's Little Nightmare Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 But KYE is the track 3 of the album, after 21stcb, and, the radio never put 8 minutes song followed....21st century Breakdown is the bigger and more radio-worthy of the two songs, though. I like KYE, but... if that demo was any indication, I love 21st Century Breakdown. It's a much, much better song.
Haydée Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 this is way better than KYEthanks for posting Andres (:

Guest Shangri-La Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I have to ask. Is your name from the Adicts song Shangri-La?No Sir. The Kinks song Shangri-La.

Anyone agree with me?DJ RossstarYes, KYE feels like it will work well as an album track but seems a bit lost on its own. Its not a bad song and I think the repetitiveness of it is deliberate to drum the message home as it were. It just doesn't seem an obvious choice for a single when there's clearly so many other really good tracks to choose from (even just from those I've heard). I can only think that either Green Day picked it to get a strong message across -as in know your enemy - right from the start, or the record label picked it because its just loud and will imprint itself in the mind of anyone who hears it. Possibly they're thinking it'll become a song used for big sporting events for years to come. I'm not too sure how well its going to sell on its own as a single. On the other hand Lights Out sounds like an amazing song. I love where its going when it starts to fade out at the end. I really want to hear this in full and put it on my I-pod to listen to over and over again. I haven't even put KYE on my I-pod yet which is sad really. I will do of course its just I don't feel particularly drawn to it yet.
Paper_Lantern Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Honestly, I think KYE was an awesome choice for a single. It's got that catchy pop sound to it that people like, and it's just so listener friendly. It'll probably end up being one of my least favorite songs on the album, but for the average listener, this song is what will get them to buy the album in the first place.
arrie44 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Lights Out is AWESOME!!! What in the world are they thinking over there?!?! Know Your Enemy should be the freaking b-side to this mofo!! This song is 10-15 times better than KYE, sounds like Insomniac on steroids!!! LOVE IT!!!!
Kaddi. Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Yeah, it really sounds like Insomniac. I like it, really cool song ...and pretty catchy as well.
Paper_Lantern Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 And regarding Lights Out... it's REALLY awesome. It's a little weird, but i like it a lot!
The Disappearing Boy Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 the more i listen to it, the more it sounds like an insomniac drop out!!but the way i look at it, if this is a b-side, the rest of the album must be incredible!
