Paper_Lantern Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I like how the last drum part in Lights Out transitions perfectly into Know Your Enemy.
GreenPunkPrincess Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 personally I like both the same but the preview of lights out it's really short... :/Too much short! :/ 30 seconds are not enough for me
Offreenday Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 ok green day, listen me : release all your rejected b-Side like this on CD, if you hate them ok, but we like it.rahh, i have the feeling im back in past, 1994-1998 time when i push volume up in my college chamber. Now i have 29yo and i push volume up , button repeat on "lights out" , and my 5yo son dancing on this music.KYE is good but it's not my prefere "side" of green day
Ally Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 i think it sounds like insomniac + nimrod + network + 2009-green-day-sound. yeah i agree, its an excellent song, sounds very much like there older stuff...and quick note to any mods, sorry i posted the link to the full one...it didnt even occur to me it was illegal, so i apologise so has the full one been leaked or something cos i didnt think it was availble at all yet? But its appeared on the web...sorry if i'm a bit behind the times...i didnt read all the posts!EDIT: ok i just read GDA, i see now, that answered my question still an ace song though KYE is good but it's not my prefere "side" of green dayKYE is good but not as good as Lights out, so yeah i agree that song is hitting my preference more than KYE, a bit like Shoplifter did on American Idiot really..
RebelofSuburbia Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 the sound of this song is mesmerizing When I hear the intro I think like ' Letterbomb pt2' but it also resembles the Network, and then listening along it reminds me of Dookie, but also Shenanigans and Nimrod.
.Brian Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 first, everyone said that he loves KYE, now everybody says that he doesn't like it that much xDDDD
MusicalDeviant Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Lights Out would not have fit on the new album, but its certainly better than the first single out now. Know Your Enemy is for those who are new to Green Day, whereas Lights Out seems to be a treat for those who have been Green Day fans for years and years. I'm glad their stint as Foxboro gave them inspiration for what I can tell to be a 60's-esque melody. Also, it sounds like a perfect successor song to those on Insomniac. And I fucking worship Insomniac. My favorite iteration of their 'sound.' An send up to the green day of yore, and a treat for all of us who've stuck by them throughout the duration of their career. I adore it.Thanks Green Day.
HoneyDo666 Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I love Know Your Enemy...it's supposed to be simple, it's an ANTHEM! Sing along everybody!Lights Out is awesome! Billie's voice sounds beautiful...I think with this album, there will be no more debate about how good his voice is.Rock on boys!
ferryfan Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Great song! Possibly better that Know Your Enemy What do people think?
Krist Cool Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I really like the drum beats, It does have to old sound of Green Day which I enjoy too. I like Know your enemy and Lights out the same, both kickass songs. It has a sorta 60's vibe to it too, which adds nicely.
TheBullwinkle Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I love the drums at the beginning and the breakdown with the bass.
farley drexel hatcher Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 ^ Those are my two favorite parts too, best bassline in a while, I think
ferryfan Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 ^ Those are my two favorite parts too, best bassline in a while, I thinkAgreed
TheBullwinkle Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 ^ Those are my two favorite parts too, best bassline in a while, I thinkYeah, the sound of the bass alone in that part is amazing, but I think I'm pretty much just in love with any song where Mike has a little bass solo.
MusicalDeviant Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Yeah, the sound of the bass alone in that part is amazing, but I think I'm pretty much just in love with any song where Mike has a little bass solo. Thank you Holiday. Thank you Longview. Thank you Welcome to Paradise. Thank you Last Ride In. The bass is my favorite instrument. A good bass solo sends shivers up the spine. Mike has perfected that. The single should be Lights Out. Know Your Enemy is trite in comparison.

Modern Zero. Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 This song is the most amazing thing ever as of now xD I really REALLY like it, and I think it's a lot better than Know Your Enemy, although I still like Know Your Enemy, it's just that with Lights Out, the song doesn't get old, I could listen to it over and over again, but with Know Your Enemy, it does get old in a way. I mean...KYE is still a great song and all, but I think the fact that it's really repetitive makes it seem old listening to it over and over again.I don't know...I just think that Lights Out has great depth to the instruments and I love how it has that older sound to it. It's like this weird combination between The Network, Old GD, and The Ramones. I like how their B sides sound a lot like their older stuff, Like with American Idiot's B sides, Governor, Too Much Too Soon, and Shoplifer, the sound to them was much like Green Day's older stuff. I think it shows that although, their albums sounds change a lot, they still now how to do great simple songs like what they used to do
M.K. Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Any news on hearts collide? is it out on the internet yet?
The Disappearing Boy Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 its not out until may 6th or something.
Greenday_Aussie Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 May 8th on most sites, Record Shop X has it as May 6th though...
jaymz Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 This song is great. I am sure there are better songs on the album though. This does sound like Dookie/1039smoothedoutslappyhours/American Idiot all roled into one. Sweet.
watsername182 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 There's a part of the song that sounds similar to that of another song from Nimrod/Warning era.I can't remember what song it is and it's really annoying me. But it's a great song. And it's fantastic to be hearing new Green Day material.
MusicalDeviant Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 You forgot "Reject". :wink:You're right. Well, i did my best.
TheBullwinkle Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 You're right. Well, i did my best. And that's all I can ask of you. Job well done, Matt.
