Seedless_Reject Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 wait, what is the point of this day?i put the link for the website up on a previous page.
The Disappearing Boy Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 i get it, to protest against homophobia.surely a day of silence is not the best way to protest against something then.
Peace and Rainbows Posted April 16, 2009 Author Posted April 16, 2009 i get it, to protest against homophobia.surely a day of silence is not the best way to protest against something then. That's why we have parades. It's more of optional, It's good to do though. But one of my gay friends is one a college visit tommorrow so he can't do it. If you can great, if you can't go to the parade
Take me to Christie Road Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I understand the symbolism of the Day of Silence, but I think it's ridiculous. I'm all for gay rights, love is love, who cares who it's with? But staying quiet about an issue just doesn't make sense. A normal reaction would be to voice your opinion about something you disagree with, not to "silently protest".

Being silent on an issue will do nothing really, you need to let your voice be known, speak your mind and protest against it. Not be silent and do nothing. I'm more for affirmative action that will get something done.

I'd much rather tell someone my opinion and explain to them why I believe it.
Boston Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 I epically failed at this today. On a side note, I received Milk and a mini-gay pride flag for my birthday. I contributed a bit.
kongomorgo Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Never heard of it.But not speaking all day to honor something is a bit strange. And I won't be able to not talk anyway.
chickin'pickin' Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 A day where in the entire nation of Australia you can hear a pin drop.
Guest Hayley Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Anna told me about it 3 days ago. But there is no such a thing/day here...
pooldude256 Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Anna told me about it 3 days ago. But there is no such a thing/day here...There is no such a day period, people just make it up to think they can make a difference by doing so...Once you get out of high school, get a job and grow out of all the nonsense you understand there is no point in doing anything like this. If you think about it practically, it's just dumb. No offense to those who did it, but even if I were gay, what is going to change as a result of a few high schoolers not talking at school an entire day? The real world doesn't know and it doesn't care. If you want to do something, be productive and join a group or something and get involved in a way which will make a difference.
TheMinority16 Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 i kinda did this DOS thing yesterday.....lol my friend reminded me. I do it for anti-gay bullying which is a horrible thing.
Take me to Christie Road Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 For the people who participated in the Day of Silence, did it actually make any kind of difference? Did your lack of speech cause people to stop saying 'fag'? Have people stopped using the word 'gay' in a derogatory manner? Has your silence prevented a gay person from being beaten? My guess is, probably not.
Farah Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 wow.. did people actually do this? stay in silence for the whole day for nothing?we might aswell do this for everything we find unfair now..
Take me to Christie Road Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Silence is the enemyHaha, that's what I thought.
