He did it on national television as a joke.

Yeah, the fact he makes out with guys doesn't mean he's bisexual. Anyone can do that for a laugh. The fact he said he was bisexual does though.

Where'd you find the interview at? I don't think I've ever read it...if you had a link that would be pretty amazing.

It's from the advocate issue in 1995. http://web.archive.org/web/20050309020312/...eenday672_3.asp

Enjoy, if it doesn't work go the wikipedia page about billie joe and it's the notes section number 10 the title is coming clean.

Well would you make out with a chick as a joke?

Ever been to a high school party? Girls kiss all the time to turn guys on and attract attention to themselves. It doesn't make them bisexual, it makes them idiotic.

Straight people should march in the marches and help out and all that, but why should they reflect on suffering they haven't suffered?

It makes me suffer to see gay people being discriminated, not being able to get married, etc.

And besides, to make a change, the majority of the society has to get involved, not just the gay minority. People need to see that gay people are not the only ones who think they deserve equal rights as everyone else.

The National Day of Silence brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools.

Thereby acting as a reflection on the harassment one has endured. And, if one were to wonder why so many people refused to talk, which I'm sure they have, the idea of LGBT suffering has been broadcast to the masses. People said the same thing of nonviolent protest in the early days of the Black Civil Rights' Movement as you are saying of this silent protest.

'For Armstrong, who grew up with band member Dirnt in a suburb of Berkeley called Rodeo, homosexuality is neither a new subject nor one he must defend himself against. “I think I’ve always been bisexual,” Armstrong says simply. “I mean, it’s something that I’ve always been interested in. I think everybody kind of fantasizes about the same sex. I think people are born bisexual, and it’s just that our parents and society kind of veer us off into this feeling of Oh, I can’t. They say it’s taboo. It’s ingrained in our heads that it’s bad, when it’s not bad at all. It’s a very beautiful thing.” '

Yup, he's bi alright.

I've never read this, and although I had heard he'd said this I was never really sure if it was a joke, or a rumour or what, but after reading it I respect him even more than I already did. Thanks for the link.

I also agree with ¿Whatsername? when she says that straight people shouldn't really participate because they don't understand. Even though yes in order to really do something about their rights people have to understand it's not just gay people that want them. But for this particular thing, I agree with her. Especially after reading her explanation of why it's silence. (Thank you for explaining by the way or I would have been one of the many who are asking what the point is.)

Not in the same way the gays suffer. I mean, you feel bad for a guy dying of cancer, right? That doesn't mean you feel the physical pain he feels or the fear of dying he has in his last weeks. Know what I mean?

And I agree with straight people being in marches and voting for gay marriage and signing petitions and all that junk. I just feel that this one day is special to gays. Its like with black history month how only the black leaders are celebrated. White leaders certainly helped a lot, but they're not mentioned because its black history month. Every minority needs to celebrate itself without the majority trying to hone in on what they don't fully understand.

If I was in high school I would do it. And I did it when I was in high school. But I don't have anything on that day, not even college classes. It'd be pretty ridiculous for me to be silent in front of my father, dog, friend, and especially the China Panda drive through people.

Seriously, Billie Joe has a wife and two sons. He's not gay, and bisexuality is something that gains celebrities attention.

I'm sorry, but I just have to ask; Do you realise how ignorant that comes across as?

Bisexual means you are attracted to males and females. Just because the person he choosed to marry is the beautiful Adrienne, does not mean he is straight, nor does it mean he "used to be bi" or whatever...

Likewise if he was with a man, everyone would presumably identify him as gay.

Now think about it. Do you honestly think Billie Joe would lie about his sexuality to the press? If so, you have very very bad judgement!

Also, having children has absolutly nothing to do with sexual orientation :)

Seriously, lol.

I didn't take part because I wasn't at school, therfore I wasn't surrounded by homophobes. :)
