I truly hope that i am not right about this but i think kye is going to be a flop as aswell as 21st century breakdown.ive read numerous reviews online and there just isnt any hype or advertisement about this over here in the uk.all the people that i know who were into them with ai and albums b4 ai say that its just been too long and the had forgotten who they were untill i mentioned it,mabye its a good thing that they dont become so comercialised as they did with ai.i preferred it that way anyway.but its a shame all the same :(:(

sorry if spelling fucked up lol

Green Day are returning to the old ways I think, how is it possible to follow up a record such as American Idiot, which Id call one of the greatest records of our generation (I wouldnt say that in public) . I wouldnt be surprised by the next time they tour its less places, smaller venues. I dont believe that Breakdown will sell half of what AI did. There was one night of hype here in Aus, if the next single does better...we'll see.

Hurrah for GD returning to semi-fame!

I'm just concerned that 21st Breakdown will do shit in Australia and Green Day won't make an effort to come down here.

But it will be completely amazing if they did come here and play in smaller venues.

I wouldn't mind if it was 18+ either :ninja:.

I NEVER hear it on the radio, I listen to it all the time but I still wanna hear it played on the radio for some strange reason

It sounds the same.

Today Know Your Enemy is the song of a day on radio here

My mom called me from work to turn on the radio earlier today to let me know new Green Day song was on :D That made me smile. Now I'm back from the uni and waiting for them to play it again.

I agree with you. The shame is that it's their own fault. They still have all the ability they ever had, they are just misguided. True concept albums (which AI wasn't) are rarely commercially successful. People might say Green Day doesn't care about being commercially successful, but I know that is bullshit because they've said multiple times they would like to be the biggest rock band in the world (taking U2 or Coldplay's spot). Why do we think they changed their look from simple Berkley punks to rock star clothes and hair and eyeliner...they wanted all the teenie girls to squeal and get on the front page of Tiger Beat and shit, and guess what it worked.

They should of headed back to their roots, be GREEN DAY and do what they do best. Their first single for this new album should have been the best song they're ever written and they shouldn't have settled for less. KYE is ultimately forgettable and couldn't have been a worse choice to promote this album. I want to album to be promoted well and to be successful so they are encouraged to keep making records!! I'm concerned that if this 3 years of hard work is a flop they may get discouraged and pack it in.

I think a strong album full of songs like "Lights Out" would have been just what the doctor ordered.

The more I hear Know Your Enemy the more I like it. I don't think the Previews did the song any favours cause everybody got focused on the repetition. The more I listen to it the less i notice the repetition. 21st Century Breakdown sales should not be compared to American Idiot sales, It should be compared with the top sales of this year and next year. Just my opinion though.

I definitely agree with you about KYE being the first single.

Although I havn't heard the record in full, I don't think KYE does any justice to it.It's not the right song to promote the album.

Lights Out would've been perfect. Nonetheless, I don't think there is any reason to compare 21CB to AI.

You guys have got to give the song a chance. It's only been out since Thursday night, and it's only been getting airplay since then. Songs usually get airplay well before you can buy them, video play as well. The video isn't even out yet. Considering all that, i think it's doing pretty well.

And besides, who cares about the charts anyway?

I don't - Foxboro hardly charted, and I love those songs. I don't get it with people worrying about 21CB's commercial success - it's gonna sell because the fanbase is huge, loyal, and hungry for new material. If it's what the rest of the world wants to hear right now, I don't really care one way or another - I only care about what the music gives to me. I'm loving what I've heard of 21CB so far - it has depth and emotion and artistic ambition.

Exactly. :)

Yeah, exactly, I don't care about the charts either. It would be great though if they got in there, because that somehow could show people really know what great music is, but I don't care anyway, I think Green Day makes great music, and the fans are great, haha, I'll buy their music anyway

Nah, I don't think so. Westlife sell a lot of records. Some of the biggest songs here are joke songs. Half of the stuff in the top 40 is not what you would call decent music. In fact, more often these days, the good stuff doesn't chart and it's causing people to rethink the charts altogether! The charts are a mess and music doesn't sell the way it used to due to downloads so you can't use chart places to measure how successful a band is. You listen to what you want to listen to and to hell with what others think.

I think this new album will sell well regardless but I really don't let it bother me.

^ Yeah, that's true. I'm rereading my post, and I don't agree with what I said either

I meant that when like Green Day will be in a chart, people will see it, and I think that it's great music.. so.. nevermind..

Charts are messed up, don't even want to start about them here in my country xDD

I think the record will sell quite well, but I don't care really, as long as I get a copy of it. (:

when do green day do what you, or anyone like you say?

'head back to their roots'...so you think that middle-aged men (fathers, in fact) singing about teenage boredom, masturbation and angst would sound good, right? i don't think it would.

green day are continually looking to improve themselves, challenge their abilities, keep evolving, questionning themselves, and they encourage others to do the same. that is 'being green day', that is 'what they do best', its what they did with ai, and it is what they are continuing to do with this album.

Heard it for the first time yesterday; am I the only one disappointed? I find the song absolutely tasteless and devoid of talent, which is surprising because I enjoy all of their other stuff from '89 to present. Love their older stuff the most, but I loved American Idiot as well. Maybe with the wait I just had high expectations but I think they deserve those high expectations as a band. Le sigh, but the rest of their album could be absolutely fabulous for all I know. Very curious to hear the rest of the album.

If you think Know Your Enemy is Green Day at their best then you are delusional. If you think they challenged their abilities with Know Your Enemy then you have low standards. And if you think growing back to their roots means signing about masturbation then you're retarded. No time for you.

For what it's worth, it's looks like it's getting some lift in the Washington, DC radio market now -- primarily through WWDC (DC-101), which appeals primarily to the teen/twentysomething rock/alternative-rock demographic. The closest true alternative-format station we have around here is 104.3 out of Baltimore (go figger, we have to import our deli from there too!) and they're also playing the hell out of it. The "adult Top 40 contemporary" station here, WRQX (107.3) doesn't seem to have heard of it yet, so it may still be awhile before it makes the crossover leap...we'll see what happens later this week after the video launches. :)

Anyway, as of today, KYE is #8 on DC-101's top 100 and climbing (up from the 20s on release day)...not bad for the first single off an album that hasn't been released yet. At least in this market it would suggest that (1) more people like it than I think we're giving it credit for, and (2) despite its repetitive chorus it may have some staying power.

It was so awesome. I thought I'd put the radio on this morning just to see if I could hear anyone play it, and lo and behind, Radio 1 were playing it :D

I never listen to radio normally.

You REALLY need to downsize your sig, buddy.

dont hate it, dont love it.

im sure the album is going to do great though.

I prefer Know Your Enemy to Lights Outs but I don't love Know Your Enemy though. Both songs are okay only.

Seems like I'm in the minority as well. Songs like Lights Out are usually pretty good, and I do admit I like the tune. But for me Know Your Enemy is a better all-around song. Maybe more people will like it when heard in the context of the album.
