RougeRogue Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 None of my radio stations are playing it yet, or even mention it. They played Nice Guys Finish Last today, but no Enemy.
mechanicalman Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 v. confused? And that means..?Erections.I actually quite like it. I'm pleasantly surprised.
chickin'pickin' Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 So you're the anti-Green Day sheep most of the time? That is a common mistake in assumption made by alot of the Green Day obsessives here. Green Day are still one of my favourite bands, don't get me wrong. Because of this, I have set a very high standard for future material. This song does not meet standards set.
GreenDayzStar27 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I agree with you guys, it is too repetitive. I like the parts where they aren't saying "Do you know your enemy" but i really don't like the chorus. And of course, KROQ is playing the song at the top of each hour and are going to make people sick of it after the first day..typical
Nova-Caine Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Yes, Appalling. The lyrics might have a sting in the tail, but that means squat when there's so little variation in the tune or indeed the lyrics. I quite like simplicity, so if I don't like a "Simple" song then in my view it must be terrible. As I stated before though, I expect much better from Green Day, so i'm being a bit more brutal in my opinions on the song, admittedly. All who heard the 90 second preview won't need to hear the full song, let's face it.One positive from the track though, I detect an unintentional tribute to the Stone Roses in the intro drums. That was pretty sweet, I must admit.I liked the 90 secs ditty because it was catchy and worked for the Basketball Game, I was excited to hear the whole thing because I thought there would be more substance to the whole thing but its just repetitive, It's not an awful song but I know it won't be one of my faves from the album. It will probably grow on me once I can hear the album in its entirety and see where it fits in relation to the rest of the songs/story line.I hate not loving it straight away and hopefully a few more plays will have me bopping x

That was pretty sweet, I must admit. That's true. Really this discussion seems like it will just end now, because we're just on opposite ends. It's always good to have someone play devil's advocate though, whether intentionally or not.I wouldn't be surprised if it flopped in the public's eye, no matter what we think. I don't like saying that about Green Day, but it ain't another Holiday. That is a common mistake in assumption made by alot of the Green Day obsessives here. Green Day are still one of my favourite bands, don't get me wrong. Because of this, I have set a very high standard for future material. This song does not meet standards set. :wink:Yeah I figured. But really, what were you expecting? What are your standards? Do they have to exceed American Idiot? And what "qualifies" as exceeding it?I feel like a Dad when his daughter goes out the first time and he asks like 20 questions. Oh well....
blvd Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Call me crazy, but even though I downloaded the song, I'm still gonna buy it. I wanna support my favorite band! And believe me, I don't pay for music too often. Will probably do the same with "Know Your Enemy" but only because it's Green Day. Already pre-ordered the album of course, want to support the band. Wonder how much the music company will get from that prize. But I am not against illegal file sharing in any way because that could be an enormous profit source for the companies but they are not interested. Everything has to be done in their way instead of the customer's and that's fucking wrong. If there wasn't for illegal file sharing I wouldn't have bought any albums and wouldn't have went to any concerts. Without it I would probably not care about the upcoming album. So there is pretty much thanks to file sharing the music companies have earned something on me. There's got to be a better word for the ones that produces the albums? Music companies sounds odd. Excuse my terrible English, I am working on it

I was blown away by American idiot when I first heard that, even though it's clearly behind many other tracks on that particular album. It was just an immense introduction to Green Day's biggest commercial and critical success.Know your enemy just doesn't hit me in the same way as American Idiot. It went down like a lead balloon for me.It's a good job I know that Green Day are sure to have a collection of excellent songs on 21st Century Breakdown other than this. That's pretty much guaranteed.
Rob Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 To those who have heard the other album songs live at the concerts, are there indeed better songs on the album than this? Pleaaaaaassseeee tell me there is...

Pleaaaaaassseeee tell me there is...Depends what you mean as "better." They aren't as repetitive (from what I've heard, I only have heard the stuff from Youtube and rough audio recordings). But Andres and others say the new album is amazing, so don't worry just yet.

Almost was nowhere in the room tonight. 21st Century Breakdown is Green Day’s best album. And at the Fox, they proved that the rock opera can be as punk as a Clash 45.
