chickin'pickin' Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 You'll be totally shocked to hear this from me, but I don't like Know your enemy, It's repetative to the point of annoyance. Absolute garbage in my opinion. Green Day, you can do MUCH better.
music89 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 just woke up and i see all the links to download this are down, there was talk of a demo of this song too. Can I get a PM with links for the actual song and demo, pretty much whatever is available. Thanks so much
The Underbelly Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 You'll be totally shocked to hear this from me, but I don't like Know your enemy, It's repetative to the point of annoyance. Absolute garbage in my opinion. Green Day, you can do MUCH better. Can't do much else than agree with you, Jason. Especially since I've been anticipating for it for so long, it was kind of a let down. Not giving up hope though for the complete CD, American Idiot wasn't even close to my favourite songs on the album.
marekpipe Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I must also say, that Know Your Enemy is not the best single Greenday have released until now.90% of the Song is the same . even the melody billie is singing is the same..It´s not bad but not very special ... it´s getting boring ...Cheers

Green Day, you can do MUCH better.Well it's sorta like "Are we the waiting" in a way because it's so repetitive, it's just a harder song with a deeper meaning. Some songs are built on repetition because it proves a point. The point here is, well...to know your enemy, which in the song may be the government or some other powerful entity.I kinda like the repetition. Not saying it will end up being one of my favorite songs from the album, but still it's pretty good imo.
jodiegd Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 this song is awesome, i heard it on radio 1 when they first played it.
Nova-Caine Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I have just listened to it and tbh I'm not that blown away, maybe it's just my mood today It's ok and catchy but it's not getting me that giddy tbh, I'll listen to it a few more times.I feel bad that I don't love it straight away

Kate Austen Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Well it's sorta like "Are we the waiting" in a way because it's so repetitive, it's just a harder song with a deeper meaning. Some songs are built on repetition because it proves a point. Not saying it will end up being one of my favorite songs from the album, but still it's pretty good imo.Except Are We The Waiting was totally awesome!I think it just worked for that track, especially since it was more of a transitional. Whereas this one (while I think it will also be transitional) - is trying to sound like a single. So the repetitiveness is bad.
brainstews Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I too am at a loss at to how Warner chose this song off this album to be the representation of the new album. I mean the riff is catchy as hell, but it's repetitive. The only thing I can figure is that they were hoping that this song would catch on in sporting events and become the new "who let the dogs out" crap with this being constantly blared at the beginning of every major sporting event as a pre game energy pumper, (cause repetitive or not the song has a HUGE hook with the riff.) I'm sure the song rocks live, but for a first single and first representation of the new album, I'm dissappointed in Warner. I don't blame the band at all, because I seriously think this album has to be looked at as an album and not just any one song. Listening to this single and trying to decide what the album is going to be like, is like looking at the corner of a painting and trying to figure out what the whole piece looks like without stepping back and seeing the whole thing. This album is going to be an experience from start to finish, and until we can hear it as intended (by hearing the whole album from start to end) we just get this peek. The song is ok... But I don't believe it was a good first single choice. Grrr Warner

I honestly don't believe Green Day have pulled it off with Know your enemy, though. I've been known to be quite critical of Green Day at times, so I doubt people will pay any heed to my completely valid and arguably true opinion, though.
mechanicalman Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Scott Mills said people on Green Day forums are getting 'v. confused' about the iTunes thing. I think he's talking to you, people of GDC.
RougeRogue Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I know this won't be my favorite on the album. I don't hate it, although I was expecting a bit more of a surprise from the full version but really that basketball preview gave me all I needed to know.
chickin'pickin' Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 What exactly do you want?A half decent track.
pooldude256 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Nah, I'll still be getting the album when it's released, just a shame that I already know that it is tarnished with this appalling track.I think I might be being a little harsh with it, but I was anticipating something exceptional, and this is nothing more than a damp squib in my estimation.Appalling? Wow what's stuck up your ass today? The lyrics are simple and powerful. This seems to be the one song with a lot of repetition and that's because of the type of song it is - "a fierce call to arms."
dreamy22 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 its only one song, looking forward to hearing the whole album....the song will grow on you

Renjini Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 its really catchy and i like it, but the lyrics are kind of in repetition, but it sure woke me up seeing i woke up 5 minutes ago
marie1986 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 too much chorus in the single, was it warner that chose it to be the first?according to q101, they've been playing it since 6 in the morning....hopefully they'll play it when i listen to it.
chickin'pickin' Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Appalling? Wow what's stuck up your ass today? The lyrics are simple and powerful. This seems to be the one song with a lot of repetition and that's because of the type of song it is - "a fierce call to arms."Yes, Appalling. The lyrics might have a sting in the tail, but that means squat when there's so little variation in the tune or indeed the lyrics. I quite like simplicity, so if I don't like a "Simple" song then in my view it must be terrible. As I stated before though, I expect much better from Green Day, so i'm being a bit more brutal in my opinions on the song, admittedly. All who heard the 90 second preview won't need to hear the full song, let's face it.One positive from the track though, I detect an unintentional tribute to the Stone Roses in the intro drums. That was pretty sweet, I must admit.
St. Jimmy of New York Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Awesome song. I am definitely feeling it. Very catchy.

So you're the anti-Green Day sheep most of the time? Most people will love this track just because it's Green Day. Others will hate it just because it's Green Day. Both sides are just kinda pointless.Honestly I like the track. If I heard it on the radio one time and didn't know who it was, I'd probably download it. I like the meaning and I think the lyrics work for it.But to each their own.
