Guest Shangri-La Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 lol In which book/issue of his zine did you read that?I can't remember off the top of my head. I'll look through my stuff sometime soon.Have you read his Greyhound Bus journals in the omnibus? He talks about not showering for a couple months.
TheBullwinkle Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 have you read his stories about how bad he smells??My favorite is when he talks about riding bart and old ladies come up to him and ask him if he would shower before going out in public.lol! poor guy..Yeah, I have. He kinda brings it upon himself. :/He's "hardcore." Something tells me he's probably pretentious and condescending too.I thought he would be a douche, but he was surprisingly nice. His stench was not.
Guest Shangri-La Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 He's "hardcore." Something tells me he's probably pretentious and condescending too.why is that?Yeah, I have. a knothole resident Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I was indecisive about attending this show since I wasn’t aware of it till late that afternoon. So after work, I took a risk by heading to Oakland and arrived at 6pm. The line was exceedingly long. As soon as I came off the 19th street BART, I immediately noticed hordes of people queued adjacent from the station. At the point, I was skeptical that I had a chance of getting in. Fortunately, that wasn’t an issue. I managed to purchase my alcoholic beverage and diligently ease my way up to the front. I was bewildered at how many people acknowledged my shirt since apparently; I was the only one sporting a Foxboro Hot Tubs shirt. Nonetheless, it was a great opportunity to initiate contact with fellow Green Day fans since I flew solo on this adventure. After a 30 minute delay the band broke out into the intro of 21st Century Breakdown. There was some technical issues regarding the drums but Tre rolled with the punches and carried on. My opinion of this upcoming album? It’s an interesting pastiche of their library of work. Most songs echoed that laid back, stripped down sound of Nimrod and Warning while the Green Day's signature abrasive punk riffs were complimented the package. I will be completely sincere. American Idiot will remain their magnum opus cause after experiencing the new album from front to back, it didn’t seem like it had anything additional to offer. 21st Century Breakdown is basically Warning disguised as a punk opera. Its understandable that the band never intended to replicate American Idiot and will admit that 21st Century Breakdown treks on ambitious territory, but there's really no suspenseful build up that the epically long "Jesus of Suburbia" or "Homecoming" provided. Perhaps I should reserve judgment till the album is released, but after getting an advance listen to it via live performance, it can easily shelved between Nimrod and Warning. After the illustrious trio completed their set, I was left with a bittersweet satisfaction. Even though some of the new material didn’t seem that complacent, I was elated to see my favorite band playing in an intimate venue for an affordable cost. I will iterate though their performance was phenomenal and they really enjoy interacting with the crowd.
shalamar Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I talked to him at the Pinhead Gunpowder show last February at Gilman, and I remember all I could think was, "Damn, this guy smells bad." Aaron really needs someone to offer him to let him use their shower. :/ He was a nice guy, just... stinky. Yo Bullwinkle....let me know when you plan to do Gilman show in the future. My daughter Kelly has been bugging me to take her again. She saw the Loved Ones there a couple years ago. Sort of the girly punk music. You've got a cool mom like me (like I am!)

TheBullwinkle Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Cool, come with me then I'll try. I'm still pretty broke, but I start my new job next this coming Wednesday, so I guess it would be okay to spend some of the money I have.
billiejoe321 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 AMAZING FUCKING SHOW! I was front and center, and got all 5'1" of my ass whoopped, but MAN, totally worth it. Nothing like seeing Billie Joe Armstrong rub his nipple from two feet away. They sounded great, they are ready to go on tour, no doubt. They had Scattered and Hitching on the set list, but substituted GSB and The Midwestern Medley (last performed at the Warfield show.)I CANNOT wait for this album.HEY WHAT WAS THE SET LIST CAN U PLZ REPLY
a knothole resident Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Now some people here will lambast me as some old cynic and not being a true fan by not supporting this album. That’s far from the case cause it is decent, but nothing groundbreaking. I will state with all conviction that I am and have always been a loyal Green Day fan since 1993. However, I'm analyzing their work by removing my rose tinted glasses and from my listening perspective, I feel that the band is grossly exaggerating about it toping American Idiot or even Dookie. What you will get is a back to basics Green Day record that's reminiscent of their late 90s sound with a couple elements of American Idiot sprinkled around.

Thank you, Erin Tomorrow, a band named "Verbal abuse" is playing as well as "Fuse" and some other bands. Some people recommended them to me so I might go tomorrow if I can figure out how to get home after the show. And I met the guy who books the shows so I won´t feel all alone there I would loooove it if you or/and Kelly come tomorrow. Have you ever been to Gilman?

jnine13 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Did they not play a Bowie song or did it get left off of the list? I would like to hear them cover Life On Mars. Anja, they didn't play Surrender at the Fox, although it was on the tape that's played before the band comes out. If you're waiting to see them on tour, they come out right after the Ramones' song.
Guest Shangri-La Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 What did BJ write in the column? That he likes rootbeer (soup?)edit: i imagine it might be googleable. "loyal order to the couch potatoe"

Have you ever been to Gilman?Kelly went there with her dad and his friend who used to go see Green Day at Gilman and is friends with Mike Milano (sp?) -- I'm not sure if he's gonna play with Green Day this year. So, no, I haven't been there. So, can you make 11:30 for Rudy's? Somewhere around there. I'll ask his friend Mike at Rudy's to call Mike D. so you can get a pic.
