fashionvictim86 Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I think the main point of the topic was valid, but no more fighting or I'll close this fucking thread again. Simply just give the opinon as stated in the topic title...Do you think Green Day will play the older songs on tour, or just the newer songs?Geez, we should be able to answer this question without bickering about ages or how much of a fan someone is....
The Disappearing Boy Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 they'll mix it.they love their older songs.
Spider Tre Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 they'll probably mix it like their last toursome shows with just newer songs, some with older, some with both
Lauren Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 They'll play old songs, but probably not like they just did at these past two shows - songs like The Grouch, J.A.R., F.O.D., Worry Rock, etc.
W Axl Rose Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 The people seeing these club shows are so lucky. If I remember correctly in 04 in NYC and TO, Green Day played all of AI then played like 4-5 songs. These people seem like they are getting way more. I think just like on AI Arena Tour, GD will play about 7-8 new songs, 4 from AI,3 from Dookie,3 From Nimrod/Insomniac, nothing from Warning and probably Knowledge. I know they professionally videotaped the 4 AI warm up shows in 04, anyone know if they are taping these?
nimrod-41 Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 To be honest, I'm not too bothered about what they play. It's Green Day, it'll be amazing whatever!Although, from what I've heard so far of the new album, I kinda hoping they play that in whole, like they are now, then do a bunch of older songs.Obviously they won't play as many old songs as they are in these warm up shows.. It'll probably be something like:American IdiotJesus Of SuburbiaLongviewKnowledgeBasket CaseKing For A DayMinorityGood Riddance (Time Of Your Life).. Even that might be wishful thinking. But I am hoping they'll keep a little treat like Going To Pasalacqua in there somewhere
thenextsexpistol_mak Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Yeah, in your opinion. I wouldn't mind if they dropped songs like Basketcase and When i Come Around, Welcome to Paradise. I love Minority, but still, it's been played a million times. I'd be totally content if they only played the new songs.ive never seen green day live, i dont care if theyve played the same songs 30 million times, they seem to like them and id love to see them live
Hermione Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 It'd be cool to hear some older songs for sure, but I'm a big fan of all their little concert traditions attached to certain songs like Knowledge, King For A Day, Good Riddance, etc. So if they do things along the lines of how they went with the AI tour, which I think they most likely will, I won't be fussed.Songs that they play a lot that they tend to do more straightforwardly, like Basket Case, I wouldn't mind seeing the back of to make way for a few rarer ones, in an ideal world. But having never seen them live before, they can play anything they want and I'll be beyond happy!
mplsloseroftheyear Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I really can't stand when someone thinks they are better than the new fans just because they saw them in the '90s. You've brought it up at least three times in this thread now. And no, I don't think they'll drop the old songs, they seem to be having fun playing them.yeah ive seen them tons of times throughout the 90's and now and i do think were better fans cause weve been fans longer and the newbies came onto green day when it was super trendy. damn posers. haha
GreenDookie311 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I heard 80 and Going to Pasalaqua last thurs night.Quit yer bitchin.
Guest Hayley Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 they'll mix it.they love their older songs.agreed.
Alex. Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 i would really like to hear some stuff from kerplunk and insomniac. as well as the new songs on 21CB.
chickin'pickin' Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I've heard that they're lazy with their setlist. This is why i'll only go to see them after a new album comes out.... I will not pay for the same show twice, regardless of how Green Day put on a good performance. I go to hear the music just as much if not more than seeing them prance about on stage, it needs variety. But to answer the OP. No, they won't drop old songs. There'll be less of them to make way for the new songs, obviously. But "Golden Oldies" will still be there.
.Holly Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 So explain to me how bringing up past shows I have seen when discussing what the set will be for the new tour is not relevant? take a poll of people who have been GD fans for ten plus years and I bet the majority of them would vote for older material. You pretty much get the response of "I would be happy no matter what they play" from newer fans and people who have never seen them live.Well, all the newer fans (and I count myself one of them because I only got into Green Day when AI came out) will want to hear the new stuff that got THEM into Green Day. I bet if you asked older fans too, they've heard the old stuff so often that they'll really want to hear Green Day play their new stuff live...seeing as we'll never have heard it before.
Katarina. Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Nooooooo no no no, they won't drop them, at least I hope not! I like every song they have, and I think they'll still play a few older songs
CarmenPunkGirl Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I think they will continue to play some old songs
Tiffx Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I have decided I really want to hear Stuart and the Ave live. That would be fucking awsome. I don't think they will play that though, so I hope they play longview at least.
wwnflat_punk Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 My geuss is that the upcoming shows will be a mix of old and new songs. It would be cool if they played older songs rarely played live, like Christie Road, Going to Pasalacqua, Rest, and 2000 light years away. Instead of the traditional Basket Case and Longview

W Axl Rose Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 No.Stupid question. Thanks for that insightful reply  How is it a stupid question? Maybe you havent seen the last 15 years worth of shows or read the setlists but as someone who has, Green Day traditionally plays small warm up shows where they bust out old stuff from Kerplunk,1039 etc. then they drop them when they go on their major tour.I didn't mean will they play Longview,Basket Case.etc. No fucking shit they will play those. I was asking if people think they might keep 80,Christie Road, etc. Apparently from your response, you think they will even though past history indicates otherwise.
CaseyStead Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Well I think the tours really gonna play on the 20 years of Green Day thing, so it's likely there'll be a few surprises all round. Now that all the studio albums are distributed by WB I think it's likely they will try to promote some of the old stuff too. I mean, if they have a successful tour, their first two albums are now gonna be more accessible than ever, so maybe they'll throw in a few old songs. They still played 1039 SOSH and Kerplunk songs on the Dookie tour, and that was when those records were still on Lookout! So I think maybe... they'll play most of the new songs (if not all of them at some venues), followed by a second set of some of the more popular older songs, to promote their old records. And yeah, the boxsets are gonna be available pretty soon, which I think are likely to sell very well, especially if they play some of the older songs on tour
localinsomniac Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 This guy is getting brutalized for trying to start a rational discussion, wow! Is it because he's a Guns 'n' Roses fan? Granted dude, you're not doing yourself any favors in the way you presenting your counterarguments, but I agree with you to an extent. Just...I mean, I've been a Green Day fan for a long fucking time. Maybe not as long as you, but does that really matter? The people here all have one very important thing in common with each other: they love this band. It is no one's fault if they are not old enough to have been at some of the shows you went to in your high school days. Some of them may have been introduced to music in general by American Idiot, and now they're branching out from that. If it bothers you that there are Green Day fans who are 15 or 16 now, just wait until this new album blows up all over the TV and radio. Remember, we were 15 and 16 once; maybe we were hated by the older fans back then, too.I've only been going to Green Day shows since 1997, but in the later years they seem to have developed a formula (excepting Pop Disaster) for their live show; they will open with a handful of the brand new songs, then you'll hear some of the old favorites like Longview and Hitchin' a Ride. The third quarter of the set almost always looks like Knowledge > Basket Case > She, then the last few songs and the encore. On the AI tours, we saw BoBD, September, Good Riddance, etc., and every so often they would mix it up with some Lookout!-era stuff. That's always my favorite part of the show, but yeah it does become a little predictable the way they do it.Am I going to stop attending Green Day shows? Absolutely the fuck not. They're still my one favorite band and I'll be at as many shows as I can afford. To answer the OP's question: Yes, they are going to have to drop some of the older material in order to make room in the set list for 21CB material, otherwise, they'll be playing for 2 1/2 hours every night! As to which songs will go, who knows? For the arena tours, they dropped a LOT of Warning songs (they don't even play Waiting anymore ), and Welcome to Paradise and When I Come Around have disappeared recently. If I had to guess -- and I'm only guessing here -- some of the AI stuff will go the way of the buffalo. Not all of it, but maybe some of the less-popular songs like Are We the Waiting for example. We'll just have to wait for June/July to know for sure, huh?
spark in the night Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 fo shoeither its a 4 hour GD show or they play less old songsthey have too many new songs as we can all see
