localinsomniac Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 no, I'm serious, he says rah-aightThat's what I'm hearing! He sounds like he's taking "right?" and making it two syllables.Well, gotta know the enemy, right?
pooldude256 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I'm glad you think so, but I can't agree. In some ways, I think we've made great progress, but in others, we are even worse than back in the bad old days. I'm glad that there are people who can sincerely make a comment like yours, but there are so many others who are full of hate. Just look at some of the comments that were made about Obama while he was running for office. I got emails forwarded to me that made me ill - I wouldn't even read them - just hit delete. I think Billie's use of this word will cause an uproar among certain people, and again, I think that's a good thing.Yeah there are still problems, no doubt. But maybe I'm biased here, being white and not having to endure racism myself. I think a lot of the "racism" that exists today isn't really racism - it's just joking and stereotypes. But I know down south there are plenty of issues. And I know what you mean with Obama, but those people are just morons. And I think Obama's election does in fact confirm that the majority of America is past racism. He even won more white votes than a lot of recent Democrats in the presidential race. That has to show something.I hope so, too! All these people at my work were telling me, "Wow, that Green Day song that started off the NCAA finals was great! I didn't know they were so good ..." and other such comments. I wanted to say, "Did you hear him say 'violence is an energy' and 'gimme gimme revolution?'" But I decided to wait and let them buy the album first .lol, ask them where they have been. Green Day has been making great music for quite a long while now Back years ago you'd have the Bob Dylans of the world writing songs of protest and people actually understood them. Today, it almost seems like America is dumber or something. Maybe it's because we haven't had any good protest music in a while. That's gonna change That's what I'm hearing! He sounds like he's taking "right?" and making it two syllables.Well, gotta know the enemy, right?Someday we will make him tell us what he's saying there
Hermione Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 That certainly is some powerful stuff, and very dark as everyone's already said. I haven't read them in depth but even just scanning them really gave me shivers. I love them.I did have to pause a little longer on Last Night On Earth - what absolutely beautiful lyrics! Even those seem to have a darkness about them though. They're really not messing around with this album.

They seem to just keep growing and getting better just when it seems like it's hardly possible for them to get any better.
Greenday_Aussie Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 These are just my interpretations of the album.Wow, good stuff man.
Bastard of 1967 Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 These are just my interpretations of the album....Nice, nice take on all this - I had my first chance to read the lyrics on the way home from work today and some of them sent shivers up my spine. This was a really good first-take you posted and I'm sure we'll have a lot more to say about it both before and after the album is released. Thanks!FWIW my first impression of "The Static Age" is that there may be some parallels in meaning to Bruce Springsteen's "Radio Nowhere". Compare:<I can't see a thing in the videoI can't hear a sound on the radioIn stereo in the static age>with (from Bruce S.'s song):<I was tryin' to find my way home But all I heard was a droneBouncing off a satellite Crushin' the last lone American nightThis is radio nowhere, is there anybody alive out there?>The overall theme seems really similar -- no signal, all noise, desperately trying to make a connection with someone else in an age when everyone's talking, and nobody else is listening. Maybe this illuminates one of the not-so-functional aspects of the relationship between Christian and Gloria, or their relationship as a couple with those around them, or all of the above?

To both of you. MJ Fisher, much better analysis of The Static Age than mine. I really couldn't get a feel for what it meant. That's very good. Some of the early songs, I am not too sure on. BTW, heh, you guys can stop PMing me telling me that I shouldn't be saying that Gloria's gonna die. It was an interpretations of the lyrics. Lol.
Moxy Crimefighter Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 wow, the lyrics are amazing. I'm literally speechless ( a first for everything, I know)whilst reading them I felt like somebody had grabbed me by the back of my hair and slammed my head into a brcik wall.but in a good way?I have no idea how to explain it.

Dylan. Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Hey does anyone know what font is being used for those lyrics? Here is a pic to help you understand what I mean:It's something custom. I'm sure someone will come out with a knock off eventually. As well as the logo font.

M1KEY Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 That new artwork on the official site feels like an image from Christie Road / Minnesota Girl to me. Anyone else?

erioldarkmoon Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 So I don't know if this has been discussed but why is ACT III called Horseshoes and Handgrenades, I don't get it, the other two seem to be ironic or opposites but this one just doesn't make sense to me. Also I think we should figure out the story someone here already seemed to take a good stab at it we should jump off there.

perfectpitchrob Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 I'm still trying to figure out what "horseshoes and handgrenades" is about lyric-wise, since it's the only song Billie-joe didn't give an explanation for. It DOES look good though, and from what people who have heard it have said, it's great.
pooldude256 Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 ok thanks a lot i'm looking forward to itYep, it's gonna be a good one.On 21CB the song...just read through the lyrics while playing the demo (to compare what's been changed) and it's interesting they took out the "I'm taking a loan on my sanity" (or whatever it was) part out. I kinda liked that part, and the way Billie says "sanity" was just awesome. Oh well, I still think the final product will be better.
drumstick Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 woooow 18 songs!!!the lyrics are apsolutely amazing!!! I'm soooo fuckin' excited!!
pooldude256 Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 http://www.indepthinfo.com/horseshoes/and-handgrenades.htmOk I'd never heard that expression before. I should have asked Google before. I think it's gonna be a great song. It is the title song of the 3rd act. And the lyrics scream fast-paced rocker. Don't know that I've heard the song yet in any of the recordings yet. Perhaps they haven't performed it because it has the word fuck and they have been playing smaller shows? And can anyone recall if AE has been played?Anyway, I keep replaying that 20-second clip of EJN, it has me wanting more dammit. That is probably the only song I would download if the album was leaked cause I wanna hear it really bad. :whistling:woooow 18 songs!!!the lyrics are apsolutely amazing!!! I'm soooo fuckin' excited!! You echo just about everyone here
