Kate Austen Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Oh, I did... I read various. But I don't really like them, they are too cheesy, while LNOE (oh I like these abbreviations ), is just beautiful.I love how we take the exact opposite views. I think Last Nights lyrics are awfully cheesy. But ah wellz. is last night on earth the same as "all my love"Yes. Same goes for Desperate, that is "Murder City". People were getting fooled by the setlist. They just wrote them down short (with lyrics from the songs) as the song titles. Bands do it all the time.
Kryssi. Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I don't get why some people are moaning about them changing some of the lyrics to 21st Century Breakdown. Surely they didn't think it would stay the same in every aspect? It was a demo version of the song, thus things can change. I liked the old lyrics but I'm not comaplaining.I feel like i'm the only one who hasn't read them and won't xDOh, you're not the only one, bb.
Eirik Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Yes. Same goes for Desperate, that is "Murder City". People were getting fooled by the setlist. They just wrote them down short (with lyrics from the songs) as the song titles. Bands do it all the time.I don't think I've ever seen a setlist featuring the full, correct titles of all the songs.
Ingrid Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I feel like i'm the only one who hasn't read them and won't xDHaha no, you're not alone =)
J'net Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 ^As the song includes the lyric "all my love" several time, I'm pretty sure it is yeah. It's fixed now, I just hadn't refreshed the page since I first opened it. Whew! You scared me there for a minute. I thought maybe I'd just been looking at it in my test folder - but it's there.I have finished my first QA, though, and made changes suggested on the feedback form, so if anyone finds anything else (after refreshing your browser), please let me know. I'll be working on some reformatting today to make the page easier to use/read. I'll probably do another scan through the lyrics later to find anything I missed, but it doesn't hurt to have several people looking. And, BTW, the GreenDay.com site actually says, "We are the class of 13," not "...the cries of the class of 13." That surprised me, but we have replicated it on our Lyrics page as it's written there. It will be interesting to see the Lyrics booklet that comes with the CD and see if it's different. And another BTW, Andres did a great job last night to get those out there so fast - I'm impressed!

Kate Austen Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I don't think I've ever seen a setlist featuring the full, correct titles of all the songs. Yeah As I said, most bands will abbreviate song titles (by using lyrics from the song) when writing a setlist. A lil bit confusing for the fans, altho not confusing for the band.
Bastard of 1967 Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 http://www.greenday.com/article.php?id=106here's the page I'm working on for the lyrics to make it easier to read through, and for those of you who don't wanna sit through loading flash pages.http://www.greendayauthority.com/newalbum/lyrics.phpUpdate: Got an email from the band, the gd.com tracklist is a bit incorrect, here's the correct versionAct I Heroes and ConsSong Of The Century21st Century BreakdownKnow Your Enemy!Viva La Gloria! Before The LobotomyChristian's InfernoLast Night On EarthAct II Charlatans and SaintsEast Jesus NowherePeacemakerLast Of The American GirlsMurder City?Viva La Gloria? Many kudos and thanks!
Kryssi. Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I wonder how 'we are the class of 13' is going to carry itself out as a line in '21CB.' Because it drew itself out to the right timing when it was 'we are the cries of the class of 13.' I'm sure it'll sound just as good.
Bastard of 1967 Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 It is like in Armatage Shanks, after the second chorus, on the Bridge, I'm still trying to figure out what are they saying. Also, on Jinx, on the last part of the song. I think the last verse in Jinx (which is repeated four times) is "I'm a curse hangin' around you."
The Punk Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I need this album... is like a drug or something...
Fuzz Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 I haven't had the chance to properly reply about my thoughts for these lyrics. I'm really glad i took the time to type them up, I was able to appreciate the words much more, I think.I was surprised at how dark and angry the lyrics felt. Even the love song was about losing everything in a fire. There's also a real sense throughout the album that the lyrics are a call to action, time to stand up and do something about the things we hate. I'm really damned impressed with them. And i noticed a bunch of things that I took as references to other Green Day songs (a couple of which have been posted already).I think i preferred to read them, at least once, before the music is out. As justcause mentioned, it feels like reading very dark poetry, i think getting a basic understanding of the concept before hearing the music will only make it better. I'm not memorizing lyrics yet, but just reading it through kinda like a book is satisfying.

I can't seem to make the timing come out right the other way, but who knows ... ? We'll just have to wait and see - but not for long!
Hermione Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I feel like i'm the only one who hasn't read them and won't xDI haven't read them. Yet...
amy_runs Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Is that Billie's writing? (on GD.com) I think it is, but I'm not sure!
IscoredWaddlesgoals Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I've only skimmed through them, I'd rather hear everything in context with the music. In regards to the whole 'n' word thing, I'm sure they'll explain it more when the album actually comes out. I don't think they can really get away with putting something like that on it without saying anything.
Fuzz Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 Is that Billie's writing? (on GD.com) I think it is, but I'm not sure!I'm pretty sure it's just a font.
amy_runs Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I'm pretty sure it's just a font.Alright, thanks. Yeah it is. Each letter is the same for every word
Lauren Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 but it's probably a font based on what his hand writing looks like... I think he writes in capital letters like that.
Eirik Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 As I said, most bands will abbreviate song titles (by using lyrics from the song) when writing a setlist. Fuzz Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 but it's probably a font based on what his hand writing looks like... I think he writes in capital letters like that.Erm, i doubt it. There are tons of fonts that use small caps. I dunno whether it is or not, I just don't think so. I really doubt Billie writes with spaces inside the letter

I'm not memorizing lyrics yet, but just reading it through kinda like a book is satisfying.Summed it up well. This album is dark lyrically, and IMO it's a big change for the band. It just seems like a more serious album then they have done before. I think it will shock and amaze people. Yup, I don't know how many uses lyrics, but I've seen alot of funny abbreviations, that's for sure. I've seen lyrics before. But you are right, most bands use Abbreviations. Not sure why they decided to use lyrics. Hah.
Fuzz Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 yeah, it's more serious than American Idiot because it feels like a darker story. It's no longer about being an apathetic runaway, and more about the world falling apart, and having some part of that.
