DNA Lounge Setlist - April 9

I really hope they keep these ever changing set lists going when they start playing arenas this summer. I mean, its really now getting to the point where they either play a bunch of random stuff from all over their career or play the hits, which would be essentially half of the same set they've been playing since Pop Disaster. Hopefully they've gotten tired of it and will play whatever they feel like.

Guess again....don't be an ass. I was there as a fan club member...=/quote]

I don't know what your problem is, but I talked to the people and they told me they weren't IC members. They were also talking about the times they had seen Green Day before and it was only a few times each. I didn't say anything about you, although you didn't even know what songs they played.

DISCLAIMER: I suck at writing reviews. I wrote this as if I were just telling a bunch of my friends!

Good morning everyone! Now that I've gotten enough sleep I'll share my story from yesterday.

As some of you may know, I met Anja on Tuesday and we went to the show at The Independent and unfortunately failed to get in. I wouldn't trade that experience for the world though, getting to hear them play the new record is price, you know? So I had heard rumors about more bay area shows within the next week, but we didn't have any details. Yesterday I was super busy studying for a midterm, and I get a call from Anja around 2, I think. She tells me about the show and that she couldn't get tickets because her computer was crashing, so I get to the Live 105 website as fast as fucking possible which led me to the DNA Lounge site. I couldn't believe I had actually gotten tickets. I'd been to the DNA Lounge before and knew how small the place was so I was SHAKING with excitement! Unfortunately I had to head over to school first to take the midterm while Anja headed to the venue to get in line. I finally met up with her around 6:40-ish and we were about the 20-30th people in line, and there were about another 20 behind us. If you guys were following my Twitter, Billie, Mike & Tre arrived and we got to see them go into the venue! It started to click in our heads that this was ACTUALLY happening :woot: . Next, security came and asked who didn't have tickets and moved those people to a separate line on the other side of the door! It was unbelievable how many people left our line. We were now the 6 & 7th people in line and knew that we were going to be able to get in the front!!!!! There was a woman and her daughter standing in front of us, and I overheard her talking about the Warfield show. I told her how I was there too, and it turns out she was literally standing in front of me at that show, with her daughter who Billie pulled up on stage! Crazy coincidence. Then, they separated our lines. There was a line for us that had gotten tickets through DNA Lounge, and another for those who had gotten them through the Idiot Club. I had called my dad over to pick up our tickets (I used his card) and found out that our line was getting in first because we physically had tickets and apparently the Idiot Club had yet to pay I believe. The Idiot Clubbers kept pestering security into letting their line in first but that didn't happen :)

So we're finally let in and Anja and I get right to the front! There was no metal barricade or anything we were leaning up against the stage. We were in the center, a little to our left in front of Mike's mic stand! While we were waiting around we met The Bullwinkle (I totally forgot your name!) and this other girl who had pictures of Billie when he was little because her mom sang backup on Look For Love! We also noticed Davy Havok up to the right in the balcony. He totally caught us staring at him, haha. I also found out at this point that phones were NOT allowed AT ALL. I was like, fuck it I'm here to watch them play I don't want to be distracted with taking pictures or recording (Sorry guys). Around 10:30 (I think??) Green Day finally comes out! They started shaking everyone's hands, I got to shake all three :D Then they went into 21st Century Breakdown. We were ECSTATIC! It still felt like we were in a dream. I noticed Adrienne up on the left in the balcony! They went into Know Your Enemy and announced that they were going to play the new record! (We knew this...we could see the setlist :P) I was so fucking excited to hear it again!!!! I had been listening to my recordings of The Independent show and kindasorta knew some of the lyrics. There was this cute little boy sitting on his dad's shoulders near the front and Billie pulled him up on stage! He was jumping up and down and dancing, it was so cute. Then Billie told him to stagedive! It was awesome. Even though we didn't know all the words to the songs, we were still having an amazing time and Billie was just feeding off all of our energy! There was a point where he put his foot on Anja's head, that was so cute. I kept looking at Tre through Mike's legs and he kept making the craziest faces at us, hahaha. I am officially in love with Desparate/(Murder City?) The Last of the American Girls, Static Age, Christian's Inferno, and American Eulogy. I was so overwhelmed with happiness! I know I'm going to love this album so much. I'm hitting a blank right now, I know I'm forgetting all the little details like Billie getting all up in our faces and whatnot :D But it happened, no worries! Billie also "baptized" us with his bottle of water. Also, Billie's strap did break at one point...don't remember what song it was!

Alright, encore time! Wow...just wow. I still can't believe it.

American Idiot Holy shit, the energy in the room was insane.

Jesus Of Suburbia "Fuck it we're gonna play Jesus of Suburbia!" - Billie

St. Jimmy Yesssss!

Give Me Novocaine Tre started out on drums and we instantly knew what song this was going to be but then Jason started with guitar and we were like huh?! Billie helped him out with the chords!

Burnout Not sure if this was a request but I was like AHHHH!!!

Coming Clean Once again, I was freaking out. Wow!

The GrouchThey started out but Billie forgot the lyrics so they pulled up a girl to sing it...she fucked up and sounded horrible but hey...lucky her!

80 I think Billie asked Mike "How about 80?" It was amazing to see Adie up at the balcony too!

Stuck With MeThis was a request. I was still trying to get their attention to my hand with WORRY ROCK written on it. Mike saw it and nodded and tapped Billie, but they went into this instead. I was equally as happy :D

Blood, Sex & BoozeI've always wanted to hear this live <3

SheAmazing, amazing, amazing.

Worry Rock One of the most epic moments of my life...this is my favorite Green Day song ever. Billie FINALLY noticed my hand, and started playing it slowly. I was on the verge of tears, I was so incredibly happy. They speeded it up after the solo in the bridge. I don't thing they'd ever played it live before? Epic as fuck. I want the recording!!!!!

Basket Case There were large groups of people yelling BASKET CASE, BASKET CASE! So they gave in. Don't get me wrong, I love Basket Case, but this could've made room for another song they don't usually play.

Going To Pasalacqua Anja wrote it on a piece of paper and put it under Mike, so they played it!

King For A Day/Shout/Stand By Me Amazing as usual. There was a point where Billie was practically standing on me. Billie's crotch was practically on me head. Note: I'm sure any teenie would take this opportunity to to touch him, erm...there, but I did not. I have respect for the guy :)

Minority Jason Freese was on accordian, it was awesome. Many HEEEEEY OHHHHHs involved. Good to hear those again! At the end, Tre grabbed a shitload of drumsticks and threw them out at us, and I managed to grab one! Anja had gotten a pick earlier too.

Hmmm. I think I'm forgetting something...fuck.

We were hanging around inside with the lady and her daughter I'd seen at the Warfield show, but we got kicked out because they only wanted family of the band inside. So we proceeded to waiting outside. They crowd out there, shrunk massively. There were only about 15-20 people waiting around with us! Security kept tricking us into thinking they were going to come out. Haha, they were funny. Finally, Billie comes out! The girl who's mom sang backup on Look For Love got to talk to him for a while, and he remembered her mom and everything! He asked for her email address so she could send him the rest of the photos she had! That was awesome. I saw this as an opportunity to talk to Billie. I told him how the woman who wrote/recorded Look For Love taught me how to play piano at her and her husband's music store, Fiat! He was like whoa Pinole's in the house! I talked to him more about Fiat and he told me how he got his first guitar there and about how he'd seen Mrs. Fiat perform recently. Then I talked to him about how there's a decent music scene in Pinole and he asked if I was in a band! I told him about how I play keytar in Mystery Dope :) I also shamelessly yelled my band's myspace URL to everyone afterwards, haha. Wow, it felt like talking to an old friend or something! It was unbelievable. He took a couple more photos with people and then hopped into his escape van!

Anja and I got a picture with him on her camera, she'll post it when she uploads it! My friend Mark was able to snap these:

Billie talking to the girl who's mom sang backup on Look For Love.

Me talking to Billie!

Here's the picture we took for Anja's camera. From a different angle!

Apparently Mike snuck away from another door while we were talking to Billie! There were no backdoors, so that was a good idea if he was trying to avoid us...

Tre finally came out, but didn't want to talk to us. All he said was "Make it quick." and took a couple picture, signed a few things, and then ignored the rest of us and hopped into another van. I'm sure he's a nice guy, he must have been exhausted!

Wow, this took forever. I always write epic nights like this down because I have a shitty memory and I tend to forget details so I'm going to print this out and put it on my wall

ANJA I LOVE YOU!!!!!! If it wasn't for her I probably wouldn't have been there. I feel like we're the luckiest girls ever! I did not expect for all this to happen, I would have been content with getting through the door!

edit: oops wrong thread....i guess i'll repost?

Last night it seemed more like either you had to have a group of people working together to request a song, or have billie actually look directly at you, and come up close...

regardless - we got them to play 80

Me and my friend wrote our requests on our hands. Mike saw Paulinas request to "Worry rock", told Billie and they played it.

My request was "Sassafras roots". That was funny. Billie leaned forward so he could read what I wrote on my hand. Then he thought about it for a few seconds, probably trying to remember what song it was but then shook his head :(

But then I wrote "Going to pasalacqa" on a piece of paper and showed that to them. I´m not sure if it was Mike or Billie who saw it but right after that they played it!!!

Likewise :D :D :D Rudy's at 7 right? That'd be amazing if he actually did show up!

I never thought I'd EVER hear Worry Rock live. The next song on my dream setlist is 409 In Your Coffeemaker. Or One For the Razorbacks! Ahhh there's so many! Writing requests on body parts works like a charm, take note folks!

It was sooooo annoying. The people around me were all constantly yelling for Basket Case. It's a great song, but c'mon, they play it ALL the time.

From the New York Times review: Mr. Armstrong, the drummer Tré Cool and the bassist Mike Dirnt occasionally seemed weary of playing their 1990s mega hits. After “Basket Case,” Mr. Armstrong made his fingers into the shape of a gun and put them in his mouth.

How can they mess up old songs? I can play all those old songs on every instrument. How self-insulting.
