Hermione Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 While I can understand how someone can be a fan of a band/artist for a long period of time, I will never understand how a lot of you guys get so worked up over the smallest Green Day newsMaybe I'm not a teen girl? It's fun!
Starbug Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Hmmmm. Only 3% of the forum dislike Green Day. Imagine that on a GD fansite.I love them. I don't like them. I love them. And have done for 15 years. I can't imagine them not being a part of my life, and all the joy and friends they've brought me. They're in my blood. And on my skin, with the tattoo and all...
Rob Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I sometimes have a hard time explaining how I currently feel about the band, so I'll try the very best that I can...Although I never completly lost interest in the band, the whole American Idiot thing kinda turned me away from the band for a brief period. I haven't been a fan that long, but I was before the AI era. I think it was probably when Minority was a hit, I had my parents buy me Warning for my 11th birthday, and fell in love with the album. My musical tastes have obiviously changed since then, but Green Day are still up there in my favorite bands. And I guess, that in itself is an accomplishment since most of my other favorite bands (Boston, Guns N Roses, Rush, Led) don't really even share the same genre as the trio. But back when AI came out, I was kinda torn. The whole guy liner thing, the red tie...it was just hard to argue the fact that they weren't letting the label take control. They looked like they were fucking Hot Topic right up the ass, and sharing common interest with bands like AFI and MCR who I can't even stomach. I know a band has to change, and explore, but something tells me that their image wasn't all their doing...y'know? Image aside, quite a few songs were outstanding on the record, so I didn't give up on them entirely. Although, I was kinda pissed that they made WMUWSE a single. It was my favorite song on the album until the radio played the living shit out of it...I was hoping that the 21st Century Breakdown era would let the band be themselves again, but the picture that was posted on GDA (today?), kinda makes the band look like they're going for a watered down AI image. The lyrics are kinda sounding too preachy towards religion and politics. No, I don't think they should keep doing songs about whacking off and getting acquainted with Mary Jane, but...Idk...I'm torn right now...I guess I'll see how I feel on May 15th.
Guest Billy Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 It's fun!see that's the thing that annoys me, even when i was a huge Green Day fan, just because they were quoted from 1972 in the back of Buick didn't matter to me. it was just annoying when people would have a fit because Fall Out Boy said that Green Day influenced them, or that Billie Joe supports Cheese; great for them, i'm glad they've gotten that far where alot of people love them, but certain things always annoyed the hell out of me like the time Mike got a new tattoo. now i only know this, because it bothered me so much people were that big of creepers to examine several pictures to realize he got a brand new tattoo. my favorite band right now is the Libertines, but i don't have a fit everytime i hear news about Pete Doherty wanting to call himself Peter now. i don't cry my eyes out because the Libertines are on indefinite hiatus.
Ayame Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Back in my super obsessive no-they-are-perfect-all-their-songs-are-the-best days, everything about them mattered: their image, lyrics, actions, etc. cause they were the first band whose music truly clicked with me, so I had high high expectations for anything relating with them. Now, I really don't care about those other things anymore. As long as they're decent people that keep making awesome music, I'd keep liking them.Strangely enough though, I'd consider myself a bigger fan of them than I was before.I guess my teeny days are over haha.Haha, same here.I was all 'OMG DID YOU JUST MENTION GREEN DAY?' (maybe not that much) but kind of.But now, I see them as just another band, but a band I really like and are awesome.Suppose it's because I discovered more music and have other favourite bands, too.
Trotsky Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I like Green Day still. I'm not impressed with Warner but that's a different story. As long as Green Day's new music is good, that's all that really matters to me.
rootbeersoup Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Who's the other non-liker besides Billy and me?
Joey Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 As a PS to my post I'd like to say that as my music tastes have matured I've realised that The Living End are essentially a more talented, better version of Green Day.
Starbug Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 who? It's fun!I concur I find it a lot of fun, to be excited over something. Some people dig sports, baseball, basketball, gambling, blah blah blah. I dig Green Day
Hermione Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 see that's the thing that annoys me, even when i was a huge Green Day fan, just because they were quoted from 1972 in the back of Buick didn't matter to me. it was just annoying when people would have a fit because Fall Out Boy said that Green Day influenced them, or that Billie Joe supports Cheese; great for them, i'm glad they've gotten that far where alot of people love them, but certain things always annoyed the hell out of me like the time Mike got a new tattoo. now i only know this, because it bothered me so much people were that big of creepers to examine several pictures to realize he got a brand new tattoo. my favorite band right now is the Libertines, but i don't have a fit everytime i hear news about Pete Doherty wanting to call himself Peter now. i don't cry my eyes out because the Libertines are on indefinite hiatus.Well, to each their own. Some people find that stuff enjoyable and some don't, there's no need to get annoyed by someone else's harmless amusement.
Curli Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I still like Green Day, since i was 9. But i was very obsessed about them, too the point of annoying my friends and getting in arguments about them. But after i got too the point of relising how much that really did bother people i went and bought another artists CD (everyone in shock!) and i liked it, so i opened my music range up a whole lot better and now i'm not an obsessed freak. Like for e.g if Billie Joe, Mike or Tre' happend too mention a band that they said the didn't like i would automaticlly think, right well that bands of the list of likings, i can't like them anymore lol. I don't think Billie likes Slipknot, does that mean i have too stop liking them?? I personally think Slipknot are all very good musicians. Not the best band in the world, but i like a few songs from them.(PLEASE DON'T REACT TOO ME SAYING SLIPKNOT SUCKS)
Drink Drank Punk Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 (PLEASE DON'T REACT TOO ME SAYING SLIPKNOT SUCKS)Slipknot is hilarious. Their drummer is from my home town. Or maybe that was Korn's drummer, I can't remember.
Trotsky Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I still would consider myself interested, but I don't think I am treating this new album as ritualistically as everyone else is. I probably will just download it and listen to it amongst other distractions and if I like it I'll put in on my Ipod and I'll listen to it along with all of the other stuff I listen to. Even if I don't like 21CB, that doesn't negate the Green Day songs I do like. I would say I still like the band, I'm just not sharing the same mentality as everyone whose going to buy the gold-plated Japanese edition of 21CB from a Japanese Hot Topic and sit in a dark room with burning incense and listen to it like a religious awakening.I still like Green Day, since i was 9. But i was very obsessed about them, too the point of annoying my friends and getting in arguments about them. Hitman Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I'm not nearly as big of a fan as I once was, but I enjoy their music every now and then.I'm rather anxious to see their new work, as well.
Paper_Lantern Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 From about September 2005 to like July 2006, I pretty much didn't even think about them, didn't even feel I liked them anymore, but then picked back up where I left off and finished off my Green Day collection with Kerlpunk in the summer of 2006. And then for the later part of 2008 I didn't listen to them much, but when talk of the new album heated up, I got back into them. I appreciate American Idiot more than ever recently.
**nobodylikesyou** Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I'm not nearly as big of a fan as I once was, but I enjoy their music every now and then.I'm rather anxious to see their new work, as well.and they are anxious to see yours!
Guest Billy Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Slipknot is hilarious. Their drummer is from my home town. Or maybe that was Korn's drummer, I can't remember.that would be Korn's, because Slipknot is from Iowa.
apocalipstick Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Hell yeah I do. Over the last 4 years I've kinda broadened my musical horizon though, so I didn't listen to them as often. Never lost interest though!
Starbug Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 that would be Korn's, because Slipknot is from Iowa. Not a big fan of Slipknot, but their drummer is insanely good...Hell yeah I do. Over the last 4 years I've kinda broadened my musical horizon though, so I didn't listen to them as often. Never lost interest though!I attribute my broadened musical horizons to Green Day, actually. I started listening to them, and then it led to other bands that I'd never heard or thought of. Not just to Green Day, but they're a big part of it.
Guest Billy Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Not a big fan of Slipknot, but their drummer is insanely good...Joey Jordinson is amazing at the drums, he's also a really good guitar player.
saurus Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Eh, I don't know. I hardly listen to them but I guess I'm still somewhat interested about the fact they're releasing a new album. I think there's still a bit of love for them lurking in my soul somewhere.
day1_9 Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 They are my favorite band. However, after like 5 years of no new album, I did go through these like month long periods of just not listening to them so as to not become bored of them. I couldn't be more excited about the new album though.took the words right out of my mouth
frankiessister Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I don't like them, I love them.I don't need to listen to them every day, I have a very broad taste in music and there's so many things to discover. But GD is just something very special to me, kind of like The Beatles.Oh btw, Slipknot sucks balls.
Drink Drank Punk Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I can't wait until someone comes in here and starts saying how stupid we are because we don't worship them every day like they do.
IzButt Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 wtf yes.I gotta say though I took a break not listening to them as much as I did last year for several months. I wanted to explore other bands/types of music. But I still love them, they and their music mean a lot to me. They got me through a lot of shit in the past and have inspired me, I don't think I will ever stop loving them because of that. Because music should do that to you.
