IscoredWaddlesgoals Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Sorry for another long post, but I've just tweaked the letter and corrected a few grammatical errors. See what you think: To whom it may concern, I write on behalf of thousands of Green Day fans across the world. As you are no doubt aware, a documentary called 'Heart Like A Hand Grenade' was produced (I believe at the personal request of Billie Joe Armstrong) to record the making of the band's last album, 'American Idiot'. The film was made by director John Roecker and after numerous, lengthy delays, was eventually screened on the 25th of March at The Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles. Fans from across the world were recently invited to enter a competition via Green Day's official website (Greenday.com) and fan club (The Idiot Club) to win the chance to attend a screening of the film. It was not stated anywhere on the website, from yourselves or the band that this would, in fact, be the only showing of the film. Fans who did not get the chance to watch it were given the impression that it would later be released on DVD. The director himself seemed confident that this would happen in an interview shortly before the screening. We obviously do not know if any discussions were held regarding the DVD release between this interview and the screening of the film. Fans who did attend reported that the director (who has subsequently voiced his frustration) had stated it would not be released. Since the showing, it has become clear the film will not be released on DVD or in cinemas. As committed Green Day fans we are obviously hugely disappointed to hear this. The small amount of fans lucky enough to see the film have unanimously stated it was a greatly enjoyable, interesting documentary that gave real insight into the creative process of making 'American Idiot' and the personalities of the band itself. The album is considered the most important of Green Day's career by fans and critics alike. After buying concert tickets, merchandise and CD's, fans would be only too glad to buy a DVD as well. The demand is clearly evident. Since the screening, numerous theories have inevitably emerged as to why the DVD is not going to be released. The most common appears to be that as Green Day's record company, you do not wish to possibly overshadow the release of the long awaited follow up to 'American Idiot'('21st Century Breakdown') by publicising material relating to a previous album. This would appear plausible were it not for the fact that you plan to re-release all of Green Day's previous albums (including, ironically, American Idiot itself) on vinyl to celebrate the band's 20th anniversary. Also, it has since been officially announced that a musical based on the album will be staged later in the year. As I have mentioned above, the follow up to 'American Idiot' is eagerly awaited. A documentary about the making of Green Day's previous album will not change this. We are all loyal fans who would like the film to seen by all of us, not just a chosen few. 'The Green Day Authority' which has carried updates of the album's progress (as well as official banners) is a large, well known fansite which often updates with exclusives before anywhere else. It would be a great shame if the users of this site never got a chance to see the film. Hard work and the administrator's own money go into the running of this site for the enjoyment offans across the world, free of charge. Although this is done on a volunteer basis, I'm sure you would agree that it would be a shame to see this go unnoticed and unrewarded. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, a response would be much appreciated. Yours sincerely, Nicola Bell On behalf of The Green Day Community.

Welshy Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I love how John's willing to wear womans clothes to get this released. Should send it to Warner to prove that he means business.
