amy_runs Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Alright, get comfortable and get some popcorn!Green Day on Carson Daly June 3, 2009The day started great. I got to sleep in, and took my Honors English final at school. I got the 4th highest grade in the class! And I also left school early, to purchase tickets for the Forum on August 25th! We got 4 . But I had no idea what was in store for the evening.I tried so hard to get tickets for this taping. Everyday, I went to the website and hoped and prayed that I got one. I even created two accounts, but it didn’t seem to be working. I checked Craig’s List for some, and almost bought a pair for $30, but didn’t. So I posted my problems on the GDC, and a wonderful member lent a hand. Kate Austen transferred two tickets to me because she wasn’t able to go (but she actually could have gone, which makes me feel bad!) but she gave them to me anyway in means of helping another fan out. Green Day fans really are the best! It was my dads birthday, and he really wanted to see Green Day perform some songs live. So he was very thankful too. We had also never been to a live recording of a show before, so that was exiting as well! We knew it was going to be a great experience. We left around 3:30 pm, because the show started at 5:30. When we got down there, we pulled into about 3 different parking lots, all non-public! We could not find a spot to park. But eventually, we found a nice spot under a tree outside of a nice house. If only the people inside knew where we were headed…. We got in line exactly at 4:09. Weird, huh?! Anyway, when we got in line we were about 60th. This guy that looked like McJagger was in front of us, with his 12 year old son. It was cute. And it was thundering and raining on us (not much rain, just a few hard drops occasionally) so we just wanted to get inside. But while I was standing there, I actually thought to myself, “I never thought I would ever stand in line in the rain to see Green Day.” First of all, I never thought I would ever stand in line to even see Green Day! Secondly, there is just something about standing in the rain, waiting for something incredible. It’s a great feeling. In line, my dad spotted a telephone with a messed up sign. It was supposed to say “PASS OFFICE PHONE” but instead it said “ASS OF ICE PHONE”. As soon as I noticed it too, I had to take a picture! It provided some time to get my mind off of what was soon to come. At about 5:00 the line began to go in. Not into the studio, but inside the gate and right outside of the studio. When we finally got to the lines outside of the studio, there was Green Day songs playing on the speakers. Every song you can imagine! I remember as we got there Wake Me Up was playing. Some other ones I remember are Scattered, Green Day, Brat, and Redundant. When I looked around I noticed just about everyone singing along, or tapping their foot. It was very cool to see. And when we got in the line, my dad and I were placed at the beginning of the 4th line. So we were in the line that would go in last, but we didn’t really care since we knew we were getting in anyway. When we finally started going in, we went into a hallway, and then turned right through a curtain and into the studio. I was looking around for any glimpse of the band I could get. I looked to my left as we were going right, and I saw the FBHT base drum. I didn’t think anything of it at the time; just maybe they brought it on accident? Or maybe they broke the Green Day one? I seriously had no idea what was coming! So my dad and I were assigned sets all the way on the left. They weren’t great, but we were two rows up from the stage though! And the guy that was keeping the crowd entertained until the show started was hilarious! He was a stand up comedy guy for the show, and he said some of the funniest stuff. I remember he was pointing out people in the audience and making fun of them. One guy was dressed nice, so the speaker called him ‘Kohl’s’ the whole time. He also said he was going to cancel Green Day. So I yelled out “BOOO!” Then other people started doing the same. The speaker guy was like, “Wow you guys are actually booing me! Hahaha”. He was also making fun of American Idol and a bunch of other stuff. I wish I remembered it all!So the applause light came on (I’ve always wanted to applaud to an applause light!) and everyone had to stand up and cheer for Carson when he walked in. He said some stuff, and then introduced Green Day. They came out, basking in all their glory. The crowd went even louder than when Carson came out. (That’s no surprise) So before they sat down, Billie raised his arms in the air to get an even louder applause, which he sure got! Then they sat down and Billie said something about this being their first couch interview? I don’t remember. But they had an awesome interview, I hope none of it is cut out! Here are some parts I remember:At one point Carson asked Tre about his golfing, and Tre says “It sucks.” He says it’s because of his leg. So he got up and was dragging his leg like it was broken, and walked over to the side of a stage and picked up a monkey head! He sat back down with it and began to pet it. Then he made out with it! Carson asked the band which bands we should look out for. Billie said his son is in a great band and he played his first gig at Gilman, the day 21CB was released, and Billie wasn’t there cause he was in New York! And he said he would not release the band’s name. (But I know it hehehe). And he said some other bands he liked, and Tre said “The Foxboro Hot Tubs!” Maybe that was a sign for good things to come… Then Mike said the Mystic Nights of the Cobra. And Billie said “Yeah, listen to their song Text Messaging Slut”. I hated them at the Roxy lol No offense to anyone who liked them! They’re just not for me.Also, Carson asked Billie about how to listen to the record and Billie was like "Well ya know, you can listen to it in your car and you can listen to.... *picks up CD and looks at it closely at song names on the back* maybe Murder City! Or something like that ya know…" He made it seem like he didn’t know what songs were on it. HahaLater, Carson asked what holds Green Day together. There was a long silence, and Tre says "Sperm." LOL! Then Billie leaned over and stuck his face in Tre's private area... And I'll leave the rest up to your imagination... haha. And at the end of those Shenanigans (yes it was necessary to capitalize that), they came up with “Poop” holds Green Day together. After the interview, Green Day went over to the stage and got ready to play. Then, the people on the seats on the floor were taken to the front of the stage. Then they took row by row in the audience. Row by row by row by row. Until the whole middle area was on the floor in front of the stage. As we expected the security guy to release us to the floor, he never did. The small group of us in the corner on the left side were not allowed to go to the floor. I asked if I could go down, and the guy said “No. There’s too many people down there. It’s a fire hazard.” That made me so sad. And angry. So when he went to talk to someone I tried to sneak down with some people, but he saw us and said “If you go down there, you go out the door.” And that would be horrible, so I decided to follow the rules. Then people that were still standing outside during the interview were brought in to fill up the seats in the middle. CLOSER THAN WE WERE. And we waited in line hours longer than them. It wasn’t fair, but I can’t complain. I’m just glad I was there! So we had to stay in our seats, but we were allowed to stand (I would have stood anyway, I can’t sit while Green Day is performing!). So the band started and went into Know Your Enemy. That song sounds great live! I was jumping around in the audience, trying to make the security guy notice me so he would let me down. Every time he looked at me, I gave him a sad look and yelled “Please!?” But he always shook his head no Even when a group of ten people left from the floor, he still wouldn’t let me down. So I just had to get over it!Next was Murder City, one of my favorite songs on the record, which also sounds great live! (I can’t remember if they played Christian’s Inferno or not… Hmm….)Then Billie asked if we wanted to hear a Jesus joke.Billie: So why did Jesus never go to bars?Mike: I don't know Billie! Why wouldn't Jesus go to bars?Billie: Because he didn't want to get hammered and hungover! The audience kinda laughed, and kinda oooohed. Haha!During East Jesus Nowhere, Billie had us sing the parts “Don’t test me. Second guess me. Protest me. You. Will. Dissapearrr” It was so fun! And we also sang “Aaaayyy ooohhhhh” a bunch too! I had always wanted to do that at a Green Day concert. And I finally got to!Before 21 Guns, Billie had his black acoustic out, and some guy kept screaming at the top of his lungs, “PEACEMAKER!!!” And eventually, the security guy that wouldn’t let me on the floor told him if he did it again, he had to leave. That security guy should be fired! And right when the song ended, I clapped really loud before anyone else! I hope I hear it on the tv!Between songs, we all had to stop cheering, and cheer again when they told us to. And Green Day songs were played while we stopped cheering, while the band was waiting impatiently on stage ready to rip into another hit. During both Suffocate and Church on Sunday, Billie Joe played along on his guitar and (during COS) sang a majority of the song (although you couldn't hear him because his microphone was off at the time). It was truly a sight to see. 21st Century Breakdown sounds wonderful live! It’s so brutal. But when it got to the part “Video games to the towers fall” I caught myself singing “From Mexico to the Berlin wall” haha woops! I should stop listening to the demo! And as he was singing “From heroes, and cons” at the end, I screamed really loudly, while nobody else was cheering yet. So I hope I hear that too!And J’net was right! The whole crowd jumped up and down as if the floor became a trampoline as soon as Static Age started. It was fun to watch! But I’m sure it was much more fun being in it…Then, Billie announced “Another band is going to come on next.” As soon as he said that, I remembered the FBHT base drum! I knew they were coming on! So we all waited a while, until they all ran out dressed up in their outfits. China Town was there too! It was great! Billie announced the members, “China Town, ….. *gives Tre some weird Chinese name… Then Billie looks at Mike for a second, laughs and says* And I don’t know who the fuck you are!” Then he said “It’s time to start danicin!” He then went on to say “We are the Foxboro Hot Tubs!!!!”Then they ripped into Stop, Drop & Roll. Oh, that brings back wonderful memories. Hearing them live again made me so happy. The Reverend baptized the crowd with his beer once again, and revived our faith in Lushotology!!!In between songs, he told the crowd to “Come closer. Closer…. Closer… Don’t be shy!”After S,D&R, they played Mother Mary! I love that song too! I was wishing they played their whole record. But two is enough to tide me over for now. During Mother Mary, Billie brought 3 ladies up on stage and two had maracas, and one had a tambourine. They stayed up there for the rest of the song! And at the end Billie yelled “MUCHAS GRACIAS!” And they left the stage. About a minute after they left, everyone was screaming, “One more song! One more song! One more song!” But all the workers were telling us to calm down and be quiet. So it eventually died out. But we tried! And before we left, that McJagger look-a-like asked for a set list, and got one and gave it to his son. I wish I remembered to ask about the set list…Then everyone was sent out the door. Since we were in the left corner, we were near the end of the last people to leave. One maintenance guy on stage began throwing Billie’s leftover picks to people leaving. So on my way out, I looked high and low for a pick. And I found one!!! I’ve wanted a Green Day pick for so long now, and I finally have one. It might not have been used during a song, but it was intended to! So I’m happy! I made it into a necklace All in all, I had an amazing time! I went to my first taping of a show, my first GREEN DAY CONCERT!!!, I applauded when the applaud sign went on, I got a Green Day pick!, and I sang some aaayyy oohhh’s! So in the car on the way home, my dad and I listened to the Stop, Drop & Roll!!! record. It brought back wonderful memories. And now, we can put this one on the list too.(Oh! And I was too wound up to study for my Spanish 2 final the next day, so I got a D on it! But I still have a B in the class. Hahaha)

djrossstar Posted June 6, 2009 Author Posted June 6, 2009 My Green Day week began on Wednesday, June 3rd. I arrived to Last Call with Carson Daly at 3:30, where my good friend and longtime Green Day friend Alex was holding my spot in line. After a few hours of waiting we entered the studio and were placed into seats while we watched Carson do a quick interview Green Day. We were then moved to the floor and watched Green Day perform ‘21st Century Breakdown,’ ‘Know Your Enemy,’ ‘21 Guns,’ ‘East Jesus Nowhere,’ The Static Age,’ ‘Murder City.’ The biggest surprise of the night was when Green Day came back, dressed as The Foxboro Hot Tubs, and performed ‘Stop, Drop and Roll,’ and ‘Mother Mary.’ Surprisingly, the majority of the crowd didn’t seem into the entire performance, and many of them didn’t know any of the lyrics, but it didn’t matter to me because I had an amazing time as always signing along.DJ Rossstar
apocalipstick Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 As the recaps stated, this was amazing. It was awesome to get PBR poured all over us, and I scored my first Green Day pick! The Jesus joke was HILARIOUS, I've been telling all my friends hahaha. I can't wait to see us on TV!
jnine13 Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 I told that joke last night while we were waiting for the band to come onstage. People laughed, it's funny and wrong at the same time.

As I said in another thread, I'd like to see only fans who truly love Green Day allowed into the shows. We still couldn't ALL get in, but at least we wouldn't have to feel like there were people wasting space in there. You're one of those who deserves to be at every show possible. Glad you had such a great week!I told that joke last night while we were waiting for the band to come onstage. People laughed, it's funny and wrong at the same time.Just like Green Day!!!

That really just warms my heart. And don't worry about me, I have seen my fair share of Green Day stuff. I would much rather pass the enjoyment around, then be greedy. Also, thank you thank you thank you for posting that re-cap. I was able to live vicariously through you. We def need to hang out sometime now.
