get it the weekend after it comes out, first listen put that sucker on full blast with headphones and lose another good portion of my hearing since it's coming out in May I'll probably listen to it a good 150 times before summer's over

I don't have any "plans" really, no. If I even get it the day it comes out (doubtful) I'll bring it home, put it in my CD player, sit in my room and read the booklet and the lyrics (if they're in there) through the whole CD. Then I'll put the booklet away and listen to it a few more times. Learn the words and stuff.

i might have school, but from the sound of the first song in the album, i might not be in love with it. i mean its green day, so of course i will, but im not that excited about what im gonna do that day. im probably gonna upload it to my itunes library, ill sync it then ill blast it really loud from my speakers

I most likely have to work that day unless it comes out on a weekend which I doubt but what I'm going to do is wake up to either Know Your Enemy or the 21st Century Breakdown demo then listen to Green Day on my way to work. On the way home I'm going to pick up the CD and listen to them again on the rest of the way home. Then after dinner I will be listening to the album until I go to sleep. The next day waking up to one of the songs from it and listening to it over and over and over until i know it foward and backward. I did the same exact thing with the FHTs

I think most places that sell CDs will carry it - except Wal Mart. You can also order it online. I've preordered, but if mine doesn't arrive a day early (as it usually does), I'll go buy one on the morning of the release. Since I'm taking the day off work, I want to have it all day - my UPS driver doesn't usually come by my house until 5:00 or 6:00 in the evening, and that would just be too late!

Well, by then tax season will be over, so you should be able to do that with no trouble, right? And you'll deserve it!!! Will you try to be alone for your first listen, or are you so used to being surrounded that it won't bother you?

Well, I've mentioned several times in other threads that I'm not a patient person. I'd rather wait than listen to an unofficial version of the whole album before the release, but I don't actually WANT to wait.

I've also had another idea. I think I'll make chili the day before. That way, I'll have something ready for lunch on the day that's easy and quick to heat up (and my chili is off the charts delicious!). Oh yes, my day is shaping up to be a culinary and auditory delight!!!

So, now that some things have changed, my plan for my first listen is changing a bit, too. Here's what I'm thinking now (I've italicized the things that have changed):

In the last few days leading up to the release, I'm going to re-listen to all the previous Green Day albums in order - just for fun and to make sure I hear all those songs that don't shuffle around as often.

A couple of days before, I'm going to make a big pot of chili and some special treats so I won't have to cook on May 15.

On May 14, stay up till midnight so I can get the Special Edition download.

Decide whether to listen before going to bed or go to bed and know it's waiting for me when I wake up. This is something I can't decide right now - I think I'll just have to wait and see how I feel at the time.

On the day of the release:

Sleep until I feel like waking up

Make sure I have the CD (I'll probably get it the day before, but if it doesn't arrive, I'll go buy one) (I will have the download)

Make a good breakfast - like for a holiday - eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast, coffee (I said good, not healthy) and a mimosa - or a pitcher of mimosas

After breakfast, kick everyone else out of the house for the day (note to self: requires advance planning)

Put the new CD (or Zune with download) on the surround sound system in the family room - sit back and relax - pitcher of mimosas and mug of coffee at hand - and listen for the first (or second) time - just listen and let the sounds wash over me - just soak it in.

After that, I'll listen many times for the rest of the day - listen for the lyrics (I like to listen a few times myself before reading them - leads to some interesting misunderstandings sometimes). Then I'll listen while reading the lyrics and start to get a feel for all the multi-layered interpretations I know Billie will make possible.

Then, the next great fun will be logging on to the forum and discussing thoughts/feelings/impressions/ideas with everyone else who's also been listening. It's going to be SOOOOoooooo good!

So, as you can see, I'm going to have a completely self-indulgent day - something I've been needing for a long time now.

I'm still interested in hearing everyone else's plans - I got some good ideas from what you all wrote before.

This day, I'm sure I will be awake very early because I'll be overexcited!! I plan to go to a cd shop soon as it's open, I'll run to find the cd, I'll smile when I pay it, and I'm going to ruuuuush to come back home!

I think I'll listen to it reading the lyrics, first. Then I'll make a little review on the internet while listening to it again and again. And all day long I'm going to listen to it.

That's a cool day, because I don't have any classes, it's a week before my exams, so I'll listen to the album while revising! It will be a little disturbing, I don't know if I will be able to be very concentrated, but I don't care, I'm so excited to be on May 15th!!

Oh, that's a good idea! If I don't get the physical CD a day early, I'll have to be sure I check to see if it's arrived during the day. I do want that physical stuff to hold onto and read through while I'm listening - not the first time, but later ...
