J'net Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 I hate listening to new GD albums with other people...I'm the same. There will be a while when it's still new that I just can't stand to listen with anyone else who wants to make conversation during the music! Well, that's just rude!!!Seriously, I have some songs that I still feel that way about even though they are older than my kids ... Plus (I don't know if i'll do it this time) but I don't listen to a whole album in one go. I listen to a few songs, and then save a few for later on; there's only so much you can take in at one time. So i'll probably go straight to the ones I know I want to hear first, take a break and then go back to hear the rest.Wow, that's an interesting idea. I just don't know if I would have that much self control, but it would be great to have some new treats for later. I think, though, that I want to hear the album as a whole the first time from start to finish. I'm not going to sample songs or skip around. I love the feeling of letting it surround me and just listening for impressions. It's a hard choice, though, now that you've brought up this idea. My first listening experience will be over in probably less than an hour and a half while yours will last as long as you want it to. From your past experience, how long do you think you'll stretch it out?
farley drexel hatcher Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Pretty much only for a few hours, or so ... I wouldn't be able to make it last much longer than that lol. But yeah, sometimes it's nice to listen to half, take a break and go and do something else for a bit, and then come back and listen to the rest. I don't know if i'll do it with this album though, lol.I think i'm just going to wait and see how i feel when i first put it on, and just go from there XD.
pooldude256 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I'm hoping that it'll be released after college is finished, then I can listen to it in a stress free environment. I'll probably request a day off work too. I'm not pre-ordering it though, the last time I did that was for one of the Harry Potter books and it arrived days after it actually came out. Not a chance this time! I'll leg it into Dublin and get mine from Tower. I'm with you there. I'm kind of hoping for the 19th, because the 12th is right in the middle of finals week. Plus it would be a nice treat after a semester at college. It depends if i'm at work during the day then or not ... if not i'll have most of the day to myself, so going out and getting the CD shouldn't be a problem. And I nearly always listen to new music on headphones first, I can pick things up better. Plus (I don't know if i'll do it this time) but I don't listen to a whole album in one go. I listen to a few songs, and then save a few for later on; there's only so much you can take in at one time. So i'll probably go straight to the ones I know I want to hear first, take a break and then go back to hear the rest.Well I think it's best to judge an album by listening to the whole thing at once. But I could see skipping to March of the Dogs and listening to that before the last half of act 1
nicola:) Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Lock myself away and just listen to it without interference from anyone. I need to immerse myself in the entire album and just drift away with it.I hate listening to new GD albums with other people, my family always have comments to make, my other half doesn't get my obsession for this band so I shall be keeping this day for myself.I cannot wait wow same:)noone realy understands my ocsession.. but what other band can make you laugh smile and cry just by listening to thier musicit's my 14th birthday soon so im not buying anything untill i've bought the album and tickets to the world tour. i'm excited by the teasernd begging for more xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Ingrid Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Oooh I like this thread. Nobody will probably bother reading this, but I think it's a good idea for me to write it all down, so here we go... I started planning this some time ago, but I still need to figure out the detalis. Maybe it's stupid to have a 'plan' in the first place, but I really just wanna make as much out of the day as possible. What I know is that I will not listen to the album before the official release date is here - no leaked downloads, and if my preorder comes early I'll just have to ignore it somehow. Because I'm going to both preorder the album AND go buy it on the day it's released. I figure that is a good idea since I wanna have the experience of going to buy it, but there's always a chance that the local record store won't have it in on time (they never do), so in that case I'll still have the preorder. But eventually I'll end up with two copies, and I'm gonna give the spare one to my brother (the album might even be out on his birthday =P).Since it'll most likely be out on a Monday here in Norway, there's a good chance we won't have school that day. If we do, I'm taking the day off. If we have an exam that day (god I hope not), I'm not quite sure what I'll do yet. Hopefully that won't happen.I'll get up early so that I'm ready to walk to the record store when it opens (10 AM). Hopefully, they'll have the record, and then I'll buy it and go straight home and put the songs on my cellphone, without listening to them or looking in the booklet. Then I'll take my cellphone and my headphones outside (I'm counting on the weather to be good that day - pretty please), and I'll either find a nice spot to sit down or I'll just be walking around. Either way, I'm gonna go somewhere I can be alone and a bit isolated from the rest of the world, which shouldn't be too hard since most people will be at work/school.All I know is that I have to be somewhere I'm comfortable before listening to it, because the first time I listen to an album will always influence how I feel about the album later on, because it reminds me of that day, so if something is bothering me that day or the weather is shitty or something, I'll just have to hold off on the listening. And I'm NOT listening to it at home, unless I have the whole house to myself. And even then I'd prefer to be outside, because I feel rather suffocated in our house...---So if everything goes according to plan I'll be walking outside, maybe in the woods - the sun will be shining and I'll be all alone - just the way I like it. =) And I don't think I'll bother bringing the lyrics booklet with me, because I wanna listen through the album a couple of times before reading the lyrics, and I probably won't be able to concentrate on them anyway. I'll probably just be walking outside all day with the album on repeat - I don't think I'll be wanting to go home or talk to someone for quite some time. XDAnd I'll stay away from GDC at least for a couple of days as well. It'll be hell to try and catch up on everything later, but I refuse to let people's negative opinions ruin things for me. Because there WILL be lots of critisism amongst all the gushing, and if I'm gonna have any negative thoughts about the album, then I wanna come up with them myself. Edit: I probably shouldn't even bother posting this, because no one is gonna read the whole thing, but it felt good to get it down on 'paper'. Now go ahead and tell me that I'm crasy, haha.

I'm not sure I'll even try though - I'm not known for my patience
minus52 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 i hope it's released on a weekend, cos' other wise i'll have get up early(ier) to get the cd before school, but what i will probably put the leaked version on my mp3 player and listen to it in the morning

Walking out in the woods alone in the middle of May listening to new Green Day sounds awesome. I would love to do that, but I'm not sure if I'll get the chance, at least not on the release day.My day will just involve listening to it after I get it...but I'm jealous of some of the stuff ya'll are doing. i hope it's released on a weekend, cos' other wise i'll have get up early(ier) to get the cd before school, but what i will probably put the leaked version on my mp3 player and listen to it in the morningIt will be released during the week...Friday is the last possible day it could be released actually. I believe Metallica released their album last year on a Friday. But usually its Monday or Tuesday...
J'net Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 Oooh I like this thread. Nobody will probably bother reading this, but I think it's a good idea for me to write it all down, so here we go... Well, I read the whole thing because I'm truly interested in hearing what everyone is planning. It sounds great to me, and I completely understand your need to be alone with it. That's why I'm kicking everyone out of the house for the whole day!
piratepalmer Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I want to be in my bedroom, alone with my mp3 and Green Day
chickin'pickin' Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I have no particular plans. It's a release like any other.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Oooh I like this thread. Nobody will probably bother reading this, but I think it's a good idea for me to write it all down, so here we go... I read it all, and it's a good idea! And I now changed my plans.First listen to it in my room, CD player and hoping no one will bother me (or more: i'm going to put a dead-threath note on my door) and listen it.Then put it on my ipod and go for a walk listening it, maybe bringing the booklet with me, but I'm not sure about that yet.(though it depends on the release date what I'll do, if it's on the 11th or 12th I'm fucked.)
Jaymee!! Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Well I'm gonna bus down to Bayshore and pick it up at HMV right when it opens. Then bus back to my place, listening to iPod.Then I'm gonna scan into my building, push the 29 button in the elevator and go up to my floor.Enter my apartment.Go into my guest room.Tear off the annoying plastic protecting the cd.Pop it into the player. And wake up every god damned old person on my floor

Chad is Rad Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Well...I'll probably buy the album, then speed all the way home from Bloomington so that I can finally put it into my CD player...once it's in, I'll probably listen to it while reading with the lyrics. Then I'll probably need to change my underwear It's going to be so great!

thisisAB Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Nah, things arent the way there were then, my friends arent the same (and they dont like GD anymore) Im not that young and doing stupid things as much as then. All these memories tie into AI, they all happened in that "era" that I look back on so fondly This totally describes me btw I was on the HMV (Canada) website, searching locations, opening times, and whatnot, when I noticed that on the site banner, they feature someone we may know http://www.hmv.ca/hmvcaweb/en_CA/home.do

captain peroxide Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I plan on making color copies of all my Green Day posters and interviews, tearing them up and sprinkling them in a warm bath with some rose petals. I will then put on my favorite sauna facemask with cucumber slices over my eyes. My Green Day armbands, I will place on my ankles to immerse in the bath. I will paint my nails with red and black stars and allow them to dry as I let the new album wash over me and permeate my soul.Jay has the right idea. I don't believe in absorbing all of an album in the first listen, or even trying to. I seriously think it's kinda stupid to make special plans to listen to an album. I'm just going to listen to it constantly at all the times I usually listen to music and in time, I will absorb it into my mind as a part of my mental music collection. I'm not just gonna lock myself in a room until I know every bass part by ear and have considered every slight subtlety and alternate meaning of the lyrics and have memorized the number of times Tré hits the hi hat in the entire album. That would be silly.

I'm also not going to try to memorize anything or notice everything on the first listen or even the first day, but I do love to kind of ritualize special occasions and make the treat even more enjoyable. Because it's going to be such a great day with the new album coming out, I'm going to make it even better by making my favorite breakfast (which I allow myself to eat only once in in a blue moon) and making sure I have good listening conditions. That will just be good fun and the right idea for me - not stupid at all .
Holly Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Well, as I am in Y11 my last day of school in May 15th and then we begin exam leave. I hope it isn't released then because I will have absolutely no time on the last day of school as it'll be full of dressing up, a hundred sixteen year olds running round playtowers, and then partying. I don't think i will actually be at home that day so i will be disapointed if that is when it arrives. Equally I hope it isn't a Saturday because I will have to be at work, and the day will go so slowly if I'm eager to get home and listen. My ideal day would be the album coming out on a week day where I have no exams, so I can go into town and buy it as soon as the shops open (my postman never delivers til about lunch so that would never do) then run back home with a large supply of food and my laptop and lay on my bedroom floor with it on as loud as I can get away with. On the way home I'll probably ring up my equally excited friend and scream at him in an excited voice about having bought it. And then after listening to it once through I'll probably ring him up again and, hopefully, have a super quick discussion about how amazing it is. Then return to a day of listening and eating

And what's your favorite breakfast?

I'm like this with any new music that I think I'm going to enjoy. I want to listen to it several times and get to know it without any distractions.
