Marlon_GD Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Call me freakish, but I've made some calculations...21 hours and 30 minutes ago, I kept an eye on the voting...21h30m ago, Pink Floyd had 20%11 hours and 30 minutes later (10 hours ago), they had 25%, a raise of 5%Recalculated : their percentage of votes is rising at 0.4347826 % per hour (During those 11h30m)so, 10 hours ago, the vote for Pink Floyd was 25%Now, 10 hours later, they have 33.1% of the votes.Recalculated : their percentage of votes is rising at 0.81% per hour (During those 10 hours)Conclusion:They've doubled up their increase of votes.so, if they keep on doing this, they'll sure overpower us.(Interesting fact: Their percentage kept on rising, even though we aswell rounded up new votes.)(another interesting fact: I wonder how they do it. Mathemetical it's almost impossible: let's say 2000 Pink Floyd Forum members are ready to vote. Voting starts, we lead by 85%... (they have 15%) after a short burst of votes, they catch up and have 20% (see the start of above calculation). For a lot of GD members already voted at this point in time (that's just a fact), let's say we had a 1000 vote lead. We are gathering votes, and I'm sure NPF is doing the same. Still their percentages keep on rising. This can only mean one thing. Somehow, they only spent 250 votes(20% of the poll votes from the total 100% votes entered) in the first hours or so. Slowly they are adding to their count, and I'm sure this can't only be random friends and youtube/myspace visitors..) See my point? EITHER they are rising their percentage with their own forum members (but that's extremely hard to do (I'd like to see you hold back 1500 votes 'for later on')) --> So they have an enormous plot OR system they follow.OR they are now holding back ALL their forum votes, are letting current percentages rise by random friends, youtube myspace(at least 0.81% better than we pick out random friends(See Calculations)) --> so we can expect the whole forum voting in the near future.OR They have already used most of their forum votes, but that seems to be unrealistic, look at the Last-Minute spur against James. (and James' fanbase is large aswell..)Draw your conclusions, GDA members... I hope this 'll all work out great, and I REALLY hope my calculations are incorrect..Any comments?EDIT: 40 minutes ago: 32.8% for NPFnow, 33.4%Recalculated: their percentage of votes is rising at 2.1% per hour (During those 40 minutes)
silvi@ Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Our playlist will be played in full live on Absolute Radio, GDC will be promoted, and the entire day will be dedicated to Green Day.thanks a lot!
GTI Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Thank you Marlon_GDI was going to ask someone if they could calculate how long it would take for them to overpass us, but I felt like it was a big task. Kudos to you. That means roughly 8 hours, at the current rate, until they pass us?I just passed my college prep algebra class, so I'm by no means a math whiz if that is wrong lolWe need to get votes in. There obviously isn't a lot of votes, thus the reason for the higher gains quicker. Not sure if that makes sense to you, but it does in my mind I feel this one will come down to the wire, just as the last round did.
Marlon_GD Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 That means roughly 8 hours, at the current rate, until they pass us?A rough guess, at this rate, yeah, roughlyThere obviously isn't a lot of votes, thus the reason for the higher gains quicker.Yes, I understand =)To overdo it: If you own 10 votes, the other team 0, you have 100%If they just manage to get 9 votes, and you're still left with 10 votes, yeah, they gained with only 9 votes. When you own 1000 votes, the other one 0, they need 900 votes to reach the same percentage. If that's what you meant? And that's just the thing, how many actual votes do we have? A number we can base something on... I thought I saw a number of votes on the NPF forum... somewhere...
chatnoir Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 To Marlon Gd:Well, and I thought I was obsessed with this contest... Ok, here`s the thing:You are hinting, that there is some cheating or tricking or whatever going on on the other side. So, what is the point? We have all seen, what happened yesterday, but nobody can tell, what is the story behind it. Maybe Absolute Radio was totally right, we were not there. No one is in the position to judge, I think? From what I have read in the comments, I would chose one of the sides, but I cannot be sure, so I am gonna shut up about it.Anyway, we really should focus now on having fun with campaigning. If anything bad happens, we can still kick asses after the end of voting So, I would say, don`t spend your time with conspiracy theories, better go out and get us some votes!!!
Marlon_GD Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Well, yeah, I am obsessed :-PBut the last thing I'd do is come up with conspiracy theories :-)My point of the calculations was: we really have to keep an eye out, because things we didn't count on (before I did), could overtake us at the end.I just want to help form the picture: we're going to need every vote we can grab to win :-)Never once crossed my mind the verb "to Cheat" :-)I believe those guys at NPF are deadhonest, straightforward competitors :-) But I'm trying not to underestimate their cleverness :-)EDIT: And believe me, I for one have fun calculating and concluding I'm sort of a Mathemetician. I love calculating, concluding ;-)
The Judges Daughter Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 I vottedI have a feeling PF fans have something up their sleeves.Their playlist is immense though.Dire Straits and The Beatles yumyum.Glad to see that people are realising were not all hottopic mallrats, that's something good to come out of this anyway.

Anyhows, thanks for helping and have fun with your calculating!
Hermione Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 We need to get more votes rolling in sharpish.

Anyhows, thanks for helping and have fun with your calculating! :wink:You're more than welcome! :wink:I have to admit, my posts do look like I'm trying to hint something :-)I'm trying to hint: those NPF members are very clever and I respect them deeply and they are worthy opponents. And we have to maintain our lead at all costs. :-)I'm not trying to hint cheating-in-progress, because I believe everything is going by the book, I really do :-)It just passed midnight here in Belgium, so I'm off to get some sleep.Tomorrow I'll go rounding up some more votes with my friends, as much as I can.We can win this!Goodnight/Goodday =)
Eirik Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 We need to get more votes rolling in sharpish.I think I've sent this message to almost every person I know: "Have I asked you to vote for Green Day yet? If not, click here: *link*" (In Norwegian of course)

Fuzz Posted December 19, 2008 Author Posted December 19, 2008 I will say we're fucked if I can't get GDA's server back online before Sunday :/

If not, click here: *link*" (In Norwegian of course) What do you mean - "almost" ? Hmmm, percentages are dropping, only 65 % now. I will say we're fucked if I can't get GDA's server back online before Sunday :/What happened? I noticed, it didn`t work, but I thought, it was IE again...Don`t worry, you can still send out mass emails to the GDC members, can`t you? And we will fight even harder, if you can`t make it work till Sunday.
Haydée Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 I will say we're fucked if I can't get GDA's server back online before Sunday :/it's working for me.. :/
Fuzz Posted December 19, 2008 Author Posted December 19, 2008 It just came back up. They turned it off because I haven't had the funds to pay the bill. THey've given me an extension. woooo
Hermione Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 ^Woooo indeed!I think I've sent this message to almost every person I know: "Have I asked you to vote for Green Day yet? If not, click here: *link*" (In Norwegian of course) Excellent work! My sister's boyfriend, who hates Green Day, gets forced to vote Green Day by me tomorrow
chatnoir Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 It just came back up. They turned it off because I haven't had the funds to pay the bill. THey've given me an extension. wooooOh, and I was just about to believe in the conspiracy theories I didn`t see the usual donation question. I remember you have said, you collected enough money for December. I will donate some money, but I cannot afford to spend much. And now I have to sleep. See you all tomorrow for the heavy campaign!Good Night and sweet dreams.
Eirik Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 What do you mean - "almost" ? I didn't send it to the ones I know would vote Pink Floyd, and I sent a more personal (and more pleading) one to the ones who might go either way...
Fuzz Posted December 20, 2008 Author Posted December 20, 2008 Oh, and I was just about to believe in the conspiracy theories I didn`t see the usual donation question. I remember you have said, you collected enough money for December. I will donate some money, but I cannot afford to spend much. And now I have to sleep. See you all tomorrow for the heavy campaign!Good Night and sweet dreams.I haven't asked for any donations yet, though thanks for the offer. I usually pay the two server bills separately, just need to wait for the money to be paid from income from advertisers. I'm pretty sure I have it all covered once they do go in though. I will probably ask for donations for the GDC bill right after Christmas though, as that bill is due first week of January. Thanks for the donation. I'll be sure to save it for the GDC bill once it comes in.
The Disappearing Boy Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 It just came back up. They turned it off because I haven't had the funds to pay the bill. THey've given me an extension. woooowell i therefore love 'them'. whoever they are!! lolbut i think it is fair to say, that whoever wins this match will win the competition.
Keith Jordan Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 As the amazing band Interpol sing, "Pace is the trick"!I have a number of strategies to hand. I have used a couple but there are several more!!Pace is the trick!
rootbeersoup Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 People take this shit way too seriously
Keith Jordan Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 Just briefly reading above, if you need server space I have loads left on the NPF server. 4GB and a whole load of data transfer. If you need a spare server to use for disaster recovery, let me know.
