veronica_cy Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 One of my favorite songs ever. It always manages to cheer me up.And I love that bass line.
Buddy Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I hate saying this to Green Day fans, but Warning is my least favourite album by them. I can't stand listening to Misery, and Minority is overrated. (no offence, my opinion) I do like the title track a lot! It's my second favourite song off the album. On the other hand... Castaway is my favourite song off the album, and I love the song!!!! I love the tone of the guitar on this song, the intro makes me JUMP! and the bass line/solo is crazy! I like the lyrics/meaning of the song too.well, Warning isn't my favourite album either. Maybe it's because I'm German and I don't comprehend every word... I don't like Misery very much, but Minority is one of my all-time-favourites.And Castaway is such a cool song. I like the bassline, too.
jake smith Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 finally..... this is my favourite song off warning and i needed to be song of the week
Hermione Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I live for the day when the GDA has a contest for best sign language performance of a song (doesn't matter whether it's Green Day, PHGP, Network, FBHT, or some new incarnation of any or all of our boys). I love signing the songs so much (I started doing them for my daughter, who is deaf, and she now LOVES FBHT - she and her boyfriend went to the Little Rock show with me and my son - when the music started, their faces just LIT up - they had never been exposed to such loud music, and it was as if it was being done just for them ). Figuring out how to express all those hidden meanings in sign language really gets me into the deeper concepts that are woven throughout this music I love so much - because in ASL (American Sign Language), it's not correct to just sign each word - the way to do it right is to sign conceptually, and that means that a lot of thought has to put into what the words really mean. In Castaway, most of the lines are quite straightforward to sign and mean just what they say, with the one exception that you've already pointed out (although, I think that's just our dirty minds working overtime, really). But, in She's a Rebel, for example, "she's the salt of the earth" would not make sense if signed <she's salt on earth>, so I sign, "she works hard - <takes-care-of> earth" which (truly) makes more sense in sign language.Okay, I could discuss this subject all night long, but this post is long enough now - I'll stop.Wow, that's awesome! How brilliant that you can all enjoy the fabulous Foxies together, the show must've been amazing.Sounds like doing the lyrics in sign language brings a whole new way of enjoying them. It must be really interesting to look at every song so closely - probably why you're always so good at expressing your thoughts about them. About Castaway, there used to be a poster up in my street for ages advertising some local club for watching old films. It said "A Sentimental Journey" in big letters at the top. Made me grin every day when I walked past it
sharon mitchell Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 The bass line of this song is the catch for me. Love it.
M1KEY Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Castaway was instantly my favourite song from Warning when I heard the album. I wouldn't call it my favourite track to this day, but it will always be one of the best. Such a catchy tune and I love the backing vocals at the end. Billie works those salt shakers like no one's business! Great song pick darlin'!
Hermione Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 It would appear Billie Joe likes the phrase "lost and found" very much
jake smith Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Castaway+Misery=Heaven Misery=my nans favourite songaccording to i tunes it is my second favourite song!
M1KEY Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 It would appear Billie Joe likes the phrase "lost and found" very much But do you like... MOUSTACHE RIDES???!!!
Ila Reto Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 ^ makes me smile every time! ----anyway on the topic----does anyone else wonder why they did voice effects on every "Now i'm on my own" except for the last one? i thought it was to show how pure his voice sounds without digital voice effects, but im sure there's another valid reason such as "they forgot".
M1KEY Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 ^ LOL @ "they forgot"That's a good question though, you'd think, if anything, it would be done the opposite way, with the last one being altered.
Hermione Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 I'd guess they did that because they wanted to, to mix it up a bit. I'm not a big fan of the digital voice effects on Warning. But do you like... MOUSTACHE RIDES???!!! Oh my..........................that spiffy moustache is quite simply AMAZING!! Sign me up for a moustache ride asap!
AntonGlader Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 This is one of my favorites songs ^__^ That made me buy the warning album a cuple of years ago ^^
Ally Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Love this song too, one of my faves from warning, but i adore all the warning album so no surprise!
Rita Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 That's so true. My friend hates Green Day, but Castaway is one of her favourite songs. She was even obsessed with it about a year ago. That's pretty awesome.
Tripe Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Something you may not know about me is that I can perform all the Green Day songs, all the FoxTubs songs, and a lot of the PHGP songs (well - and lots of other songs, too) in sign language. Whenever I'm practicing this one - if I happen to be alone - I will sometimes substitute the sign for "male-masturbation" instead of the signs for "I go-on alone." That's just for my own amusement Janewt, I remember I saw you signing quite a bit when we were in line behind you at Juanita's in Little Rock, I kept meaning to ask you about that. Were you just practicing, or did you attend that show with someone hearing impaired? If you managed to sign the lyrics while getting the sh*t beat out of you in the front there, you are something else! EDIT: Never mind, I read on to your next post and saw your daughter and her boyfriend were with you! That's so great that they enjoyed the show.Castaway was my first favorite song off Warning, I still love it today. Great singalong, like lots of people have said. Excellent pick, Leanne.
**nobodylikesyou** Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Castaway is just ...... amazing. I love this song. In fact Im gonna listen to it right now.
minority0223 Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 i love this song soooooo much!!!!!!!!!i had another account here called castaway223 but someone hacked it but now i have this one!!! but i seriously love this song. its so... happy. well green day songs dont tend to be happy, but its one of the happier ones.
J'net Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Castaway was my first favorite song off Warning, I still love it today. Great singalong, like lots of people have said. Excellent pick, Leanne. As my son and I were driving to rehearsal last night, we were listening to my GreenDay-All playlist on shuffle, and Castaway came on. Of course, I sang along at the top of my lungs, and then I told him - you know, considering how much I absolutely love this song, it's amazing that it wasn't one of my favorites when I first heard Warning. I don't understand how that could be, because I love every single thing about this song from beginning to end. Maybe some of the other songs just caught my attention first, I don't know. There are so many good songs on that album - but this is certainly one of my favorites.
Ila Reto Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 why is there no video for this song?anything from Goat Island is always a keeper!
Bryn Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I think honestly this would be in my top ten (ever changing) list of Green Day songs. I adore it. Something about it just really kinda, speaks to me. I know that is cheesy as hell, but it is true. In fact, if I ever get a tattoo, I plan on it being one based on this very song.
