As mentioned, I really do think Shenanigans is such an underrated album. There are a ton of quality songs and a lot of them are my favourites.

I think there is this feeling about Shenanigans that because they are b-sides they're not worth it... =/ and they really ARE!

Songs: Whatsername, Coming clean, homecoming, peacemaker, and many more!

Album: Shenanigans

Prosthetic Head and Take Back. I've always thought that was because they're at the end of the album's tracklist. Oh, and Ha Ha you're Dead.

Peacemaker. I still cannot understand how it is possible they don't play that song live. And I also think it would have been way best as a first single for 21stCB than Know Your Enemy ("do you know the enemy? do you know the enemy? We gotta know the enemy, wah hey" x 3, as the first single, really?, but that's just me).

From American Idiot I'd say Letterbomb and Homecoming. Especially Homecoming. JoS is regarded as this epic 9 minute mini rock opera that blows everyone's mind, but Homecoming is just like any other song in the album? It's another 9 minute epicness in my opinion, I like it jsut as much as JoS.

From Warning... well the whole album is underrated to begin with, but I think BSB, Church on Sunday and Misery stand out... oh and Deadbeat Holiday... ah, such a great album in General.

From Nimrod...well can't think of any right now.

Insomniac I'd have to say Panic Song, and well... I actually think this album entirely is also underrated, it's such a great album! And here I'm gonna have to say that I think Walking Contradiction is overrated :P

Dookie. FOD and Burnout. Burnout is such a great song, and such a great opening for the album "I declare I don't care no more". I'd say She as well but I won't, because I think the only way in which this song is not a single is because it never had a video or something, but it gets played more than some singles, which I think it's great, so it's a really great song, and I think it's got the proper amount of attention.

Kerplunk!: One For The Razorbacks. Also Who Wrote the Holden Caulfied, although that one too gets a long of attention for the standard of older songs.

1039/SOSH: Going to Pasalacqua, Dry Ice... there's another one, but can't remember at the moment.

Ha Ha You're Dead reminds me of an historic event that happened last year. Billie Joe predicts the future :)

I could listened to Last Ride In all day long....

the song Green Day...it's the song that gave our fave band their band name and yet it's so unknown...and underrated, i think it's an awesome song!!

Christie Road. Its one of my favorite Green Day songs and the lyrics are wonderful.

I thing that the whole Waring album is totaly underrated. Songs like Hold On or Fashion Victim are just great.

Deadbeat Holiday, Westbound Sign, Having a Blast, Sassafras Roots and Hold On.

I know there's loads of people who won't agree with me, but I actually feel like 21CB is totally underrated. Sure there's annoying kids who only know 21 Guns and claim to be #1 fans, but there's some awesome songs on there that get bashed just because people think "omg 21CB do you know your enemy", or see them as hideous because they're a bit overproduced. It's also a masterpiece lyrically... I know most GD songs are but 21CB really stands out to me for the lyrics even more than anything else.

Warning in general. There's a few songs that get a lot of attention from serious fans (I kind of see Misery and Waiting as the BOBDs of the hardcore GD community, as well as Christie Road but that's not on Warning obviously) but unnoticed ones that deserve a lot more love, too.

Also 1000 Hours, for me that's a beautiful love song even though I think Billie himself has said it's the cheesiest thing he's ever written or something. :P Worry Rock is a great one from Nimrod that nobody ever really talks about... awesome and very relatable lyrics.

No One Knows, The Grouch, At the Library, Jinx, Maria, Only of You, I Want to Be Alone...

Totally agree with you. Especially with the first part about 21st Century Breakdown. There are these people that only like Green Day for their latest album, but in general, I think it's totally underrated. It might be overproduced and you can hear it if you listen to the whole album one song after another. But if you just pay attention to one single song, you realize how awesome it is. Especially, as you already said, lyrically. They lyrics definitely are outstanding, you can see how matured they are.

I also think Shenanigans is underrated a lot. I know a lot of people saying that it doesn't sound like Green Day or that the songs sound as if Green Day didn't care for them while recording. I like every single song on this album and I think it somehow is a shame this album is so "unknown".

I agree. I don't know what it's like in America (or wherever you live) but in Australia Green Day are fairly well known for the majority of their back catalogue. The radio stations play songs like Hitching a Ride just as often as their newer stuff. And there is no general consensus that one album is better or more popular than another, it's fairly evenly spread.

The most underrated song on each album:

Kerplunk: Christie Road

Dookie: Sassafras Roots

Insomniac: Walking Contradiction (I know we all like it, but I feel like it is one of the better Green Day songs of the early 90's that people don't think about)

Nimrod: All The Time

Warning: Macy's Day Parade

AI: Whatsername

21: Last Night On Earth (Because it should have been a single!)

Maybe Prosthetic Head or Sick Of Me? and if were talking albums it must be Shenanigans

I'd say most of Nimrod, Shenanigans, and Warning. They are some fantastic songs on them that sadly no one knows about.

I guess I'm going to be the first to say this but… American Idiot.

Sure it's well received, sure it's a huge commercial success, sure it brought in lots of new fans. But that album, oh man. It deserved a lot more praise for so much more than it got.

The media even picked up on it and constantly says it's political, but I think most people really don't see to what extent it is both political and a story on its own. There's so much to be found in the lyrics, so much possible interpretations and all people talk about is how BOBD is a nice radio hit and most people think it's political because of the title track but fail to see it further into the album, nowadays when I mention it what people say is "oh, that video with the dude with guyliner? :S ".

Maybe I see it different because I live in Belgium, I don't think it got as much attention here as it did in the US, but still I think it got too much "pop" attention and not enough good music and good storytelling attention, even in the US.

I think Westbound Sign is one of the most underrated songs ever. It's one of my favourites, I love that song so much and I feel like nobody really cares about it... Also, I always listen to 86 when I don't have anything to listen to because it's such a great song and it just never gets old.

i totally agree with you, i think 21CB IS overproduced, but somehow it also fits to the album and to the theme of the album...and when you listen to the songs seperately they're all simply amazing and lyrically i'd say it's the best Green Day's ever done, next to AI and Warning...

and yeah Warning is very underrated, i have no idea why it's so unknown, that album is one of my favorites and every single song in that album is just perfect...

all the other songs you've named are also very underrated and though some of them aren't my favorites, i think they're still totally awesome and deserve more love :P

actually Shenanigans is one of my favorites and i totally love all the songs on it and i think it's a pity that it's just a b-sides album...to me it's really far from a sound like they didn't care, to me it sounds like they had a lot of fun while recording and the result is simply amazing, that album is really underrated a lot..

Your perspective on this topic is fascinating. I agree that when AI became a smash hit, many people blindly went along with it simply because it was quality popular music. For every fan who analyzes each line for double meanings and clues to the story line, there are several who simply like to dance to the music--not that either mindset is superior to the other, as long as the album is enjoyed. But I do think that American Idiot is somewhat brushed off as "just" a rock band going political rather than being lauded for the landmark, Zen Arcade-esque masterpiece it is.

  • Church on Sunday and Stuart and the Ave :)

Macy's Day Parade is one of my favourite songs in the world so I can't bring myself to say it's underrated, if that makes sense...

Letterbomb. It's a great song, and live (as far as I know for the videos I have seen) it is simply awesome, but for some reason they don't play it as much as it deserves.

I think that they played it usually during the last part of their 21CB tour, but they didn't during the first months.

Which, by the way, is something that pisses me off: when they came to Spain (29 september 2009), they played perfectly (it was the best day of my life so far), but they put little effort in giving variety to the setlist. When I compare that concert with the ones they were playing like 6 months after I wonder the reason of waiting so much time to do such long and great concerts with such an amount of old and "untypical" songs, why making standard concerts during the first months of the tour. But, sadly, that's quite common in so many music bands so...
