International Superhits was one of my first glimpse' of the boys pre-2004. so that always is kind of special to me.

LOL, when I bought my copy of ISH, for some reason the bit you clip the CD into was black instead of clear. But right in the centre there's that little hole on the actual bit you clip it to, and I could see there was some pattern or picture through the hole. I decided to investigate and removed the black bit, and to my great surprise there was that picture of the boys with Billie in a dress! That was a nice little bonus.

hahah mine used to be my dad's ISH and he always throws out the CD case.

so for the longest time i had that picture in the front cover of my notebook. imagine the looks i used to get in class.

but i wonder why yours wasn't clear, did you get it second-hand?

I love the story in Kerplunk but I also love the whole Dookie booklet. I went with Dookie.

^

^Nah I just got it from a normal shop, it was weird. Why would someone want to cover up that picture? That's just plain wrong!

i like dookie's booklet, but my favorite cover is definately insomniac.

HIGH FIVE

Well, the drawings in Dookie are absolutely gorgeous and sexy, but Kerplunk clinches it - that story is just the shizznit.

When I first bought Kerplunk, before I'd even got it home to listen to it, I remember sitting at the bus stop reading the story with a massive grin on my face

"Everybody in Green Day likes milk best of all. But the thing is, we drink it out of beer bottles cuz if we don't people will make fun of us and say we're sissies." What's not to love here?

Bwahaha that's my favorite part!! Totally halirious!!

I actually couldn't decide wether to choose AI, Kerplunk... or Insomniac. The thing about AI is that I love how it is written, like a real notebook. I love Kerplunk because of the story and Insomniac because of the way you open it

I like all the booklets art. I dont have a favourite

...and Insomniac because of the way you open it

 How much of my life have I spent trying (unsuccessfully) to fold the Insomniac booklet back up correctly in the right order after I've opened it? Too much!

i chose AI because it was the first one i saw.

American Idiot and Insomniac. Winston Smith's collage work for Insomniac is what's most often discussed - and rightly so, because it's strange and cool and haunting. But I also love the lyric-side, it's another tone of a nightmare, with its jumpy type-writer script, the uneven scattering of the lyrics, all against a black backround. It reminds me somewhat of stuff from the movie Se7en. My copy - onetime, engrossed in the music, I accidentally laid it against a tealight, and it got a hole burnt thru. Appropriately, it's right at the top of the flames on the artwork - made a little jagged window between 86 and Jaded, and I like it, because it looks like the lyrics fucking ignited.

American Idiot is intense and direct, it looks straightforward but a lot of care was taken with how these words are put across - the 'screaming' in Are We the Waiting screams out from the page, 'I Don't Care' is a graffiti-scrawl of rage. My copy of this one hasn't burst into flames - yet, lol!

My vote goes to 1039/sosh :)

If my memory serves me right, I think Jesse Michaels did some of the art, which highly increases the coolness.

Posted

I can't vote, cause I love all of them!! Dookie is fuckin amazing, Insomniac is so original, nimrod as well, and I love the way guys are sprayed on the wall on Shenanigans. Bullet In Bible art is so great....

Posted

You know, I actually can't decide. I'm going to have to go look at all the booklets and answer this later!

Posted

i think i like dookie's booklet the most. AI and Insomniac is great too, though

I have to agree that the drawings in Dookie are the best, but I love the story in Kerplunk!

They're all great in different ways. The little cartoons in Dookie are awesome, I love the step-by-step mosh thing at the back of 39/SOSH, Kerplunk's, Laurie L. story, American Idiot's style of writing and the way certain lines are emphasised and the titles of each song are drawn differently, Shenanigans little collages for each member...yeah, I could go on. I went for Dookie in a split second decision, but I think I'm regretting it now...I spent AGES looking at Tre's collage in Shenanigans after I read here that there were three pictures of each guy hidden in their part.

Dookie. I like perving on the pictures like the retarded child I am.

Posted

well.. i'd say dookie... i love the style and drawings [espec. coming clean one ^^ ]

 That's genius, drinking milk out of beer bottles!I love it!

I'd probably say Nimrod is the best cover.I think that's cuz it was the first Green Day cd I bought.

My favourite thing about the American Idiot booklet is how in the 'Holiday' lyrics, it says,

"Just cause because we're outlaws YEAH!"

:D I love the fact it's written like that.

Posted

I knew I wouldn't be able to decide until I looked at them all again. I've now dug them all out but I still can't decide because they each so good in different ways.

I was going to vote for A.I. because I love the scribbled writing and use of bold capital letters.

But, I love the story in Kerplunk. I love the little drawings in Dookie, the artwork in Insomniac, the photos in Nimrod and Warning whereas Shenanigans has a wonderful mixture of photos and drawings.

So now I just don't know. I'll just have to give it some more thought!

Posted

Dookie, Dookie, Dookie! By a landslide, man. I don't know why. I just like the drawings. It's so old school.

Shenanigans and Warning and ISH are great, but i chose Senanigans...

 How much of my life have I spent trying (unsuccessfully) to fold the Insomniac booklet back up correctly in the right order after I've opened it? Too much!

oh, I know! You open it all the way, fold the top 1/3 down, then fold the bottom 1/3. Then, the right side, the one with uncle sam or some one, you fold in, then the left side, so the monkey is the part you see when you open up the CD case...

I just bought it a few days ago, so I've been putting the booklet back exactly how it was...
