Hermione Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Yes, nothing like the same set over and over and over again, with all moves orchestrated to a "T" (I don't really know if that's the saying or not).Yeah, but if you only go to one concert of the tour (like the majority of people), it doesn't really make any difference if it's the same as all the others, ya dig?
FilmAdaptation Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Yeah, but if you only go to one concert of the tour (like the majority of people), it doesn't really make any difference if it's the same as all the others, ya dig?No, I don't. I think that's retarded. All shows should be a unique experience to those that went, not something where if you miss one, it's no biggie because it'll come around again. That'd be like having the same Warped Tour bands every year, I mean, a lot of people only go once, so who cares?!I went to more than one, and it was a waste of money to go again.
Fuzz Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I saw them a couple times within a couple months. Definitely not a waste of money. You probably didn't enjoy them as much as me because I was there to entertain you.
BillieMikeAndTre Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Pre-dookie was great. even though i wouldn't be born for another year at the end of it . but i love 1039/SOSH and Kerplunk, and they were playing small shows, so...And AI was great too, even if I didn't know about them untill about 2 or 3 years after ... my friend didn't tell me about them till then...But YouTube does have a lot of concerts, so i've seen what most of them look like.

It was one hell of an experience too, so shut the hell up. And it's to a tee.

hardtoconcentrate Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I found it hard to vote because I've only ever seen them live in the American Idiot era. Thanks to Youtube though I've been able to see a good range of shows spanning their career and I envy the people that got to attend any of the Dookie/Insomniac era shows. I loved the American Idiot shows, but it not being my favourite Green Day album makes the setlist of early day shows much more appealing to me. I also like simplicity in a show, and although the set/pyrotechnics etc of the AI shows were fun, I couldn't help craving to see the band in more 'basic' circumstances as shown in their earlier shows. I would've loved to have seen Going to Pasalaqua or Dry Ice live and with even more material on the horizon it's going to really decrease the chances of ever hearing the above at an upcoming show.
jose armstrong Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 That doesn't make sense. be careful because you may end up getting out of the mod supreme court.

FilmAdaptation Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 That's why I specified "if you only go to one concert of the tour", grumpy guts. And that's why I explained my position based on that specification at the beginning of my post.
fukingcounterstrike Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Go Green Day. what about MC Hammer???????????
Lizzie.B Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I've never been to a live concert!!!(I Live in Ireland dey never come here) But the D.V.D "Bullet in a bible" for their 2005 preformance was Totally awsome!!!!!! It's like Woot! We're not worthy!!! :unworthy: LOL!!!!
mechanicalman Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 what about MC Hammer???????????The thread starter seems to have forgotten that option.
angie Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I can't answer this question because I haven't actually seen their live performances. me too
Ila Reto Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 i voted for the early days and the dookie era. mostly because i will never get tired of looking for new ones on youtube Well I've never seen them live, but I've watched every live performance that's on Youtube. I love watching them so much , and I enjoy all the eras in different ways. The early gigs are so fun and cheerful, DIY music at it's best. Dookie/Insomniac is raw, crazy and sometimes angry. Nimrod is probably my favourite era, a little bit of flair and showmanship was just creeping in, but still with the attitude, and every concert was unpredictable. By Warning the performance was a bit more organised, and the concert 'traditions' were firmly established. I think this era is my least favourite. It seems like the showmanship is there, but not used to it's full potential. Still awesome, but by 2002 it was a little stale. And closing the concert with Macy's Day Parade instead of Good Riddance is just wrong on so many levels . American Idiot took the showmanship to it's full potential, spectacular. And although I prefer watching the older more spontaneous gigs, I think the more organised style suits the album - the idea was for it to be the absolute best possible spectacle of a show.argh! took the words right out of my mouth!!!
lilacwine Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I think the Dookie era had a manic energy that they haven't had since. Tho I'm glad Billie Joe is not doing the drugs that were contributing to that energy anymore!I agree. I like their new stuff, but their older stuff just has that certain energy in them that you can hear in every note
Hermione Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 argh! took the words right out of my mouth!!!Haha, all those words
mbk Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 I agree. I like their new stuff, but their older stuff just has that certain energy in them that you can hear in every note I was lucky enough to see them a live a couple times in the Dookie era, and it was like being run over by a monster truck... except a really happy sugary-sweet make-your-head-spin kinda truck... It really was amazing. I think you can still see it in the videos too.
Nemhaim Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 I was only in the American Idiot era, so I choose that.
Melly. Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 I only actually saw them on the American Idiot tour. So, like.. Yeah.
Guest TwoDollarMellie Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 The AI era concerts look like the best live GD shows. Especially cause of their energy. You can see that Billie is obviously having fun on stage, especially on "St. Jimmy", "King For A Day", and "Hitchin' A Ride" haha. They always have something to surprise the crowd during those shows too.But I've never been to any, so I wouldn't truly know.
paddie Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 dookie/insomniac the energy in those three at that time was epic.thats the green day i fell in love with.
Boston Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 American Idiot. They were completely polished and sounding fantastic by that time.
