Rezurgam Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I first saw their music video for American Idiot the song, and people said it was good but I thought it was overrated really. My friends said the album was good, so I went and bought AI. I thought the album wasn't good; it was amazing. What really got me into them was the song "Give Me Novacaine". So I went out and tried to find all their albums and I've been a fan ever since.
Yussef Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 In year 9, there was this girl( I'm guessing Lili might know who it is!) who I was pretty much obsessed with and one day I overheard her talking to a friend about some song of this band called Green Day and obviously, I wanted her to like me, so I check out the band. It turned out to be really good music, and from then I started getting more serious with music. I don't listen to them as much now but they really helped me discover new and great bands. A few days later, I found out that the girl didn't actually like Green Day. She was actually just talking about some shit song of theirs so I'm thankful I didn't hear the whole conversation.
Esmeralda Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 the first song i've heard was american idiot, a friend of mine give the cd to listen, and i LOVED IT!!, i liked all the songs, and then i started to look in internet for more about green day, then i heard longview...i was in love whit the base line....from then i started to bought all the cd's...and now i'm a green day psycho
Kaddi. Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Before that, I had no appreciation for music. Now music is my life, and that's what I do with my life, I listen to Green Day, and other bands, and play guitar. Green Day stuck because they introduced me to music, and they have intelligent lyrics, not to mention really catchy songs.I first heard AI in October '04 I think... and I loved it. I can't think of a song I loved so much before... but like you I wasn't really into music, before. Then, I got the album and I liked EVERY song which is something that never happened to me before. And I think this is actually the reason why they are my favourite band... because I didn't find any other band yet of which I like every song... plus: Billie is a great (maybe the best) frontman, I love his voice, the guys are very funny, I agree with their thoughts about politics and life... and so on
Haz Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I was eight when american idiot came out and I was brainwashed by my sister playing over and over again
SheBuildsQuickMachines Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 idk, i listen to them when i was a kid without realizing it and i've listen to them since. it's hard to avoid Green Day
Billie of Suburbia Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Well I broke up with this guy and he such an ass (he dated me for MONEY!) Well i had Green Day already on my iPod but only BOBD and Good Riddance and Holiday. After breaking up I was so depressed. Listening to Green Day and the lyrics made me realize I can escape to music. The more I listened to Green Day the more I began to buy the their songs. I'm an example that proves the theory music can actually change people. Now I'm all about music. Thanks Green Day!
Starbug Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 They've pretty much stuck with me because they are the epitome of awesome Simple as that lol
**nobodylikesyou** Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 ^that about sums it up for me too Angie!
yeahstephanie Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Well, I was in fourth grade. There was this lip syncing (or is it singing, idk) contest at my towns high school, and me and some friends were gonna do it. (I sang Blue (Da ba dee) by Eiffel 65) I was in the crowd waiting for the next act and the guy that came out next was totally lame. He had this blue button up shirt and stupid preppy jeans with all the obnoxious tears and holes. And all he did was plant his feet in one spot and and move his legs and arms around. But, he sang Church on Sunday. And I remember sitting there going, "Wow, this guy sucks. But this song is cool!" So I grabbed a program and saw it was by Green Day, and then everything progressed from there.
Yellow Felony Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 The catchy music, and because it was my favorite band when I was in 5th grade... so yeah.
minority29 Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 i feel horrible about this but i've only been a fan since fall of '07. i never listened to music as much as i do now . i'm like a music addict now.in the american idiot era, i had no clue about green day or any other artists and i was ten at the time. my parents are not into music at all and i never knew anyone who really liked music. so anyway i had sorta gotten into them summer of '07 and i heard holiday on the radio and i liked it. so i looked the music video up on the internet. i didn't watch it cuz i had a feeling it wasn't all that appropriate but i looked up the lyrics and sang along cuz i couldn't understand what billie joe was saying lol. and then i got an ipod for my birthday that year and i was kinda into teeny stuff but not disney (you know like kelly clarkson, avril lavigne, christina aguilera, justin timberlake) and then i decided to download holiday and boulevard of broken dreams cuz i knew of that one too. funny how i knew wake me up when september ends existed but didn't really know it was green day and one day i was listening to the radio and wmuwse came on and i was trying to guess who it was by and i randomly guessed it was either green day or all-american rejects (don't ask why). but that was before i got my ipod and had all my music knowledge that i do now. then like in january of last year i bought american idiot and really liked it but i had done my research on what it was it about i really liked it. i felt it was one of the best albums i had ever listened to. then the next day i had put it on my ipod and it was the only thing i listened to that day. then i heard longview on the radio and i was like "that sounds like billie joe"(i am really good at identifying people's voices) then i put that on my ipod along with when i come around and good riddance. i knew about good riddance also but never knew it was green day. then i got dookie and all the other albums and the rest is history. funny also how my mom or dad has no clue of how obsessed i am with them. they think my favorite band is maroon 5(just cuz i like them doesn't mean they're my favorite band and also they were my first concert) but my friend and my brother do sorta like green day but have no clue about anything before american idiot. my brother really likes holiday and for some strange reason he thinks green day broke up. don't ask why. he said some kids at his school said they broke up and he believes everything he's told even though i try to convince him that they're not but he won't believe me lol.
Spark of Insanity Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 You shouldn't feel bad because you only were a fan in 07. And you said you were 10 at the time. Most people I know hadn't really gotten heavily into music. I have noticed they got into music a few years later on. I first really got into music at 10 years old as well. So that is nothing to feel bad about for being a newer fan.
minority29 Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 aww, thanks . but i guess it makes me feel weird cuz it seems everyone on here has either been a fan since american idiot or before. but now since i'm 14, i know more about music now than i ever did. green day kinda introduced to what punk is and now i like a bunch of punk bands but i still like some of the poppy stuff i listened to before.
Spark of Insanity Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Well it is a great thing they broadened your horizon to different genres, and as I said you were young and most people don't get into music as much until they are older and then they really appreciate it's greatness.
Alex. Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 they 'stuck' to me because i fell in love with billies lyrics. and plus, listening to them got me into a bunch of other awesome music.
virysya Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I just heard them & thought "what a great band!!!!" Than I wanted to know about them more& so on!!!!!!!!!and than I thought"how could I live without them before?"
billie-joe-geek72 Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I really don't know, to be honest. I guess I just really liked their music, and I could relate.
DistilledxSpirits Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Because they are one of the few bands around that aren't full of shit and actually practise what they preach, unlike most of teh hypocrites around today. And I guess because there's just something about their music that is really unique... there's no other band that sounds quite like them.
fatherotti Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 for me started in 2005,my brother made me a mix CD haha yes it was long ago.....any way...BOBD was the first song on it god it just stuck, then i bought BIAB and AI,it was pretty funny cause it swept through my high school,it was a Green Day mania,my skool newspaper made an article about them too
jodiegd Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 for me it was because they are different to the other bands i listened to, when i first got into them it was when american idiot came out, they were played on the tv n radio stations 24/7, they were playing completely different music to everyone else so i got into them like that, i had heard minority quite a few years before but i was never really into music until i was bout 10/11 so i didnt really take much notice n now music is like my life. since listenin to them i av also got into more punk rock bands and discovered alot of music that i didnt know was out there.
Morgan7 Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 They stuck to me because they were so much different than all of the other bands and that they got me into punk and rock music. I also like it that I could actually relate to and agree most of the lyrics and had a great sound.
sharon mitchell Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 When I first heard them in 1994, they were like a breath of fresh air because the rubbish in the British charts was so bloody boring and predictable. They still are fresh - changing their 'sound' from album to album and that's why I still love them nearly 15 years later.
