Why did Green Day stick on you?

I can't really remember the first time I heard Green Day on Kerang but I do remember that I really liked the sound.

My son became very ill about a year ago and I used to stay up all night with him to make sure that he didn't start having breathing problems. To help me stay awake I listened to green Day one night and really started to pay attention to the lyrics. It was then that I realised that I could really connect to them through my own experiences in life. Since then I have been totally hooked and believe that the music helped me get back my sanity.

i think ive told this story about 12 times, but its always good to tell again

the first Green Day album i ever listened to was Dookie. my mom joined this sweet cd club thingy and she remembered that I said i liked Holiday a lot and remembered that it was Green Day so she ordered Dookie and we listened to it in the car and i didnt really think all that much of it, but i was like "oh, thats who this song is by..." (keep in mind that i was only about twelve).

so anyways, later on in the year, i was just having a horrible month. i hated everything and the music i was listening to (mostly uhm... hip hop and country  ) just wasnt cutting it. i couldnt get into it anymore and i was really just hating it. so i went downstairs and searched thru the music drawer and pulled out Dookie and i was just listening to it. over and over again, i couldnt get enough. and i wanted to throw a fucking party every time She came on and it soon became my favborite song because i could relate to it so much.

after that, i got American Idiot for christmas and then Nimrod in Florida and then Warning and Insomniac for my birthday and then 1039 smoothed out slappy hours and then Kerplunk and i still cant get enough of green day. they've pretty much opened my eyes to everything i now know and love.

I think i first heard of the band when i was about 12...my friend had a cd player on the bus blareing this song....i said "hey can i listen to that?"....i pushed play and started listenin to a song called "american idiot"....i immediatly fell in love with the song...my first cd was superhits and i bought several others afterward...green day changed my life...ive started my own band because of them...they were my inspiration and continue to be, to this day (but honestly lets drop the "foxboro hottubs" and make some REAL music...they are quite mediocre)

the first time i heard and watched the music video of holiday, it kinda sticked to me, like glue, haha even though i was just like ten years old. then i just started making a research about them, who they are because i don't really hear about them from school, for two months, i got their biographies, songs, albums here in greendayauthority.com then i started downloading all their albums, when i told my sister about it, she told me that she has a tape of Dookie which she bought when she was in high school i felt so thankful! my school started to know Green dAy because of me, they even call me BiLLie haha. and others call me jUst plain weird

most of Green Day's songs related and reflected to my life, maybe that's why i love them ever since i heard the song holiday for the first time, and i don't regret getting to know them. their music even encouraged me to play the guitar, so i've been playing the guitar for 2 years now and i've been a fan of Green dAy for 3 years.

Why did Green Day stick on me?

Because their songs are good.

Meh, if you want me to go into detail, then

their guitar sounds awesome

the lyrics are cool and some of them are easy to relate to (for me)

and BJ's voice is beautiful

I agree with all of above

I'm nearly 21 and can say i have been a fan of green day for just over 10 years.

got into them around 97-98 through my mum buying nimrod because of good riddance.

listened to it. sifted through the other tracks. then she bought insomniac and dookie.

around the time warning came out. i still liked green day but i considered them just another good band i listened to.

mum bought warning for me to give to a friend as a birthday present. i listened to it before the party and decided to keep it for myself.

as the years went on they where as i said just another good band i listened to. including american idiot which i got the first day it came out. i gave it a listen and thought it was a really good cd.

but i guess the changing point from where i became to love them was when i finally saw them march 9th 2005 at acer arena in sydney. i wasn't overally excited to see them as it was one of my first concerts and was going for more of a social thing with a group of friends. needless to say within seconds of green day coming on stage i could tell that this band would be my favorite band from now on. after the show i was in awe of how well they played, performed and could tell how much heart and soul they put into everything they do.

so i came home listened to some more green day. and lurked the net for green day info and stumbled across this lovely site. and learned what all the songs meant. learnt everything i ever needed to know about green day. and pretty much learnt every gd song on guitar to date haha.

so in conclusion green day have been part of my life for 10 years. 6 years as a general fan and 4 years as a massive fan.

I thought they were cool 'cause they said 'fuck' in their song. And then I just kept listening.

haha same when i was about 12 years old. i went through a phase when i

thought if a song didnt contain swearing it wasnt worth my time haha

I was 4 the first time I heard them and Nirvana, I'd just witnessed my parents breaking up. and I honest to god had No idea who they were until american idiot came out. after that it went from a 'sometimes' thing to a full blown obsession.

and thats why Products of divorce should not listen to Green day :P

I loved their message about individuality, and being yourself when everyone tries to fit in with one another.

Coming off my pop phase, it was refreshing to hear someone saying that.

Their personal lives are a lot like mine, Mike especially...I can relate to him lots.

They're what got me into rock music generally, and I just owe them a whole lot.

They stay out of the tabloids are smart musicians.

Back in 2002 my brother went to the Witness festival and Green Day were playing. A few days after the concert they were showing clips of the concert on TV so we recorded the show and when we played the tape Green Day were playing and we were trying to spot my brother and we kept on rewinding the tape to see him. We eentually spotted him around the middle of the crowd. While we were going through it Basket Case was playing over and over again and i tought it was cool so i decided to borrow my brothers Warning and International Superhits cd and i've never looked back.

Because they're very good.

Nothing more to it, really.

I started liking random GD dookie songs when I was like... er. 3. (My parents were, and still are, big fans) And I grew hearing random songs such as Minority and never clicking that it was Green Day. A few years back I got AI for christmas and that's when finally I realised that is was Green Day.

Well, I was kinda young when American Idiot came out.I remember sitting with my brother in the car with one earpiece in my ear listening to American Idiot. I didn't really get into them until this year.My brother sold me his Ipod, which had green day vs. oasis on it. I remeber liking Oasis but thinking "actually green day are better" then started looking into them.

Well my friend wore a Kerplunk shirt to my house once and I asked her what Green Day was. She said they were a great band and I should give them a listen. So I did, and when I heard Castaway it was like nothing I'd ever heard. Now four years later she's forgotten about them and I still listen to them daily...

i loved the music i heard by them first (basket case, warning, minority)

I've bored a LOT of people with this. now i can finally put it in some topic where it's allowed!

I heard WMUWSE at the radio(about 2 months ago. i'm very ashamed  xD), couldn't get it out of my head, 2 days later looked it up, listened to more Green Day stuff, got into it, borrowed Nimrod, Warning and Bullet in a Bible at the library (well..i asked my dad if he could bring some green day albums.), got very into them, looked up loads of information and stuff on youtube, and still am too lazy to buy their albums.. (and nimrod warning and biab happened to be the only albums the library had  ).. So on my iPod i mostly listen BiaB, if i want to hear other albums i use youtube. But still WMUWSE means a lot for me. And i really must buy the other albums, it's annoying that i only can really listen what i want when i'm on the computer..

(yay! now i've bored even more people!)

Well one day before Christmas I was with my friend in her bedroom and i didn't know what I want for Christmas and she told me that American Idiot by Green Day is good so I just told my mom to buy me that album...

When I get it for this Christmas, 2005 i just put it in radio to hear what's that...and I liked it so much after only first song...I dont know..it was completely new music for me and it seemd so cool to me...

then I learn whole lyrics of songs and then I start buying other albums and then when I saw Billie omg...first video that I saw was St. Jimmy from Bullet In A Bible...and I was like...shocked!!!

It passes almost 3 years and it seems to me like I listen them my whole life

Well I was in a rut of music to listen to. I loved Hip Hop at the moment and wanted something else to listen to. I felt that I haven't discovered the best band for me and I was watching the world premier of "American Idiot" and that was when I knew that I would love this band. I knew a few of thier older songs but never really listened to them. I was also later in a very depressed state and listening to thier music actually got me thinking. Because when I listen to music is when I figure out my problems and it makes me feel better. I saw thier confidence and how they were involved a bit politically. And I like that in bands. I loved thier lyrics and the intellectual wording in some of thier songs and it helped me develop my vocabulary. I loved the guitars as well and how good they played it. So I looked back on every single on of thier songs and loved them all and wished that I loved them before then.

you've only been a fan for two months and you're not totally corrupted by the ways of the teenie!!

that's so awesome, i probably have more respect for you right now than i have had for the "old" fans in the past.

wow, i mean, it took me like a year and a half to get a hold of 3 full albums + international superhits. and two months...*applauds*

you better not be ashamed!! :D

and you can get CD's at a library!? lucky, that would have came in handy for me!

meh, everyone's probably heard my babble of whatever story i've mentioned a thousand times.

Warning and Waiting.

cause that's the time frame that I started listening to music.

And Katt Martin was singing Warning in the lunch line. and I was all "eep. that's awesome"

so I downloaded it and just about everything else they had out at the time.

I was hooked.

haha

then I found out they wrote Good Riddance and I thought it was funny that I liked them before I knew who they were.

I heard American Idiot on the radio, but never paid attention. And in the months before I lost my dad so when my brother got American Idiot for Christmas, I was hooked. I remember staying up late watching the 2005 VMA's. From then on I got more and more into it, I found GDA and learned so much about them that I just had to know more, so when I found out Wake me up when Septembers end was about Billie losing his father, that song became more than just a song to me. It's been about 4 years, and I know a lot of people judge fans for getting into them during American Idiot, but at least I stayed and didn't move on. I really don't know exactly why Green Day stuck to me, and meant so much, but I guess I liked the feeling of being able to say, "I have a favorite band." for reasons I can't explain I just exploded into this madness of Green Day...and just couldn't escape.

Tre Cool! When I was first getting into Green Day I hadn't heard any music from this genre, only ever soft rock or pop rock. I had no internet, no music channels, so I only heard what pop stations played. I've always loved the drums and so it was Tre's drumming that first got me. The first album I got was Warning.
