CarmenPunkGirl Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I start loving Green Day when I first heard Boulevard Of Broken Dreams. It was great! The lyrics were amazing! . And Billie Joe was looking so good . Then I searched other songs, biographies etc. And I discovered that the band was amazing!
xsarahishellx Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 i remember when i was at school, i was like 12 at the time haha, and one of my friends came into school and i overheard him telling someone else i know that "American idiot was the greatest song ever made", so i was like huh. at the time i listened to all this rap and hip hop rubbish and then i listened to american idiot and it really changed my whole view on music. i bought the album and dookie then i listened to all the other albums and i dont know just everything about them made me become totally attached to them, i loved they were soo freakin funny. they're music seemed to make so much sense to me, and they introduced me to so many other bands and just basically turned my life around. i owe them everything ^_^
IHateYou Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 i saw the basket case music video in 94, but the walking contradiction music video and song in 95 is what made me go out and buy insomniac, and then every other album. thank you mtv! ha ha haoh what i meant to say was, i heard american idiot on my favorite pop radio station and said to myself "hey, these guys are like a total fall out boy rip off!" so i like, totally took the time and downloaded every album and bought a totally cool t-shirt at hot topic!
DeJennsitized Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 oh what i meant to say was, i heard american idiot on my favorite pop radio station and said to myself "hey, these guys are like a total fall out boy rip off!" so i like, totally took the time and downloaded every album and bought a totally cool t-shirt at hot topic!Sounds mean, but that sounds like something my friend would say
Trotsky Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Just adding to my line I think it's been so long that if I listen to GD now I'll really like it
annie Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 The other day I listened to AI for the first time in like 2 years. I enjoyed it.
MusicalDeviant Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 God, this is a question I never thought about. Its been so long, I don't even think I can remember. Green day's music stuck on me (i'd never describe it like that, personally) because it just did. I had heard their music before I became the obsessive crazy fan that worships them, but only after my 10th birthday did it really begin to draw my interest at all.
Mommy's Little Nightmare Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Wow. I like this question.I first got into Green Day after seeing the Waiting video premiere on TRL. I remember that I really liked it. I mostly listened to the stuff that was big then. You know, boy bands, the pop thing. But then I saw that... and I loved it. My father saw me singing along to it one day, and looked at it, and was like "Since when do you like Green Day?" and I told him since I saw that video. At that point, it was still the only song I'd heard. So... he told me if I liked them, he had one of their cds. The cd happened to be Dookie. He let me listen to it, and I liked it, and then he took me out to get the Warning cd. I listened to it, and I liked it.But after a while... I just stopped listening to the cds, and kinda forgot about Green Day. Enter: American Idiot. I was watching something on MTV, and you know how after the shows, they show a video on top of the screen? Well, that video was American Idiot. When it said it was by Green Day, I remembered I had two of their cds, and started listening to them again. And then, for my birthday, which was in November, I got the American Idiot cd and the Nimrod cd. I started listening to them, and I loved them. On Nimrod, I heard some songs I recognized and had liked (Good Riddance being one of them) but never realized were Green Day songs. So, over time, I got the rest of the cds, and lo and behold: I related to the lyrics, loved the sound, and learned more about the guys themselves. They just seemed to be not only great musicians, but great people as well, and I respected that. And then in March of 05, my Grandma passed away. We were really close, and it fucked me up badly. I pretty much absorbed myself in listening to music as a way to cope, and alot of what I listened to was Green Day. That, and I had tickets to see them that April, so that's something I had to look forward to that just kept me going during the times when I felt like I didn't really want to anymore. So this time, I didn't just forget about the cds and the band, and I've loved them since.
greeenfreak Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 I was bored out of my mind, hated pretty much everything and just wanted to crawl under a rock. And then they came and kinda saved my life.
chickin'pickin' Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 I'm surprised one of the weird BJ obsessives on this board has yet to mention a certain bodily fluid.
924Nimrod Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 For me, I'd have to say being able to relate to them. Stuff like Burnout, Longview (lolz), and Jesus Of Suburbia really speaks to me. Plus, deep down inside, I'm a pop guy. A classic pop guy. And Billie Joe has seemed master pop, in the melodies and music. And the one thing about pop, is that it's catchy as hell.
Hitman Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 i thought billie was hot.Yeah, that helped me, too.
St_Insubordinate Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 The first time I'd heard of them was just after AI came out. My sister was playing uptight on her stereo and I thought that it was a really catchy tune. Since she was already a fan, I asked her about em and it all just started from there. Their lyrics and the bass is what caused me to become hooked.
ifmemoryserves Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 I really have no idea, but I guess...I just loved the way they sounded. And they were completely different from what I was listening to at the time.
Koockaburra101 Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 It must've been when I first heard Jesus Of Suburbia.
Hizz10n Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 another thing, when i had a shitty day...(just like TODAY!) i listen to Green Day and it goes away, it's not important anymore!
**kookai** Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Why did Green Day stick on you? /........... coz of their tight pants
-jinx92- Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 oh my god...when did I get into gd? around ai, i guess bobd was the first song i heard and i really liked it!! there was stuff in the lyrics that I really could relate to (my friends weren't so great at the time)...when i saw the music video I thought that billie joe was like 16 years old and when i heard that the band had existed for about 18 years, you can just guess how shocked i was...xD after that I heard more of their songs from ai and i liked them all...then one day i saw six of their cds on sale and i bouhgt them all.. after that i looked for the cds that i didn't have and I also looked for information on the band (and discovered gda<3) when I learned more about the band I just completely fell in love 'cause i found out that they seemed to have a lot of same opinions as i did (like about war and g.w.bush). I really respect them and can't imagine what my life would be like if I hadn't heard their music.
# kerplunked # Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 another thing, when i had a shitty day...(just like TODAY!) i listen to Green Day and it goes away, it's not important anymore!yeah, I agree...Green Day're my life, I can't live without green day...especially on the shitty day...like yours, Hizz10n...
Ila Reto Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 aaahhh i remember...i remember maybe a little too well.i should be on here typing my whole story for at least a half-hour...but that's not as easy as it seems.so, i guess that's just for me to know/remember...it's kinda hard explaining it all anyway (too many faded memories that only my mind could try to sort out).*smiles* im just looking back...again...is it just me or do you litterally start tearing up even if you're remembering something like this? ("im so fucking happy i could cry" lmao!) im such a freakin' sap.[size=2]"faded memories on the wall some names i have forgotten, but each one is a memory i look back on so often"
Beathe. Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Thanks, i was only 13, i was such a teenie! That's still no excuse though.
Ally Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 I got into them round about AI time, i saw them on tv and i thought wow i like that, at the time i was a busted/mcfly fan! And then i kept looking for them more and found that i had heard the before but hadn't paid any attention cos i wasn't into that sort of music at the time, then they released wake me up round the same time my granddad died and i was really close to him and things got on top of me and i was struggling with life and i just started listening to them more i just became totally addicted
