OliDayyy Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 At the end of 2004, i heard the single "American Idiot", and i don't know why, i hated this song, and this band. For me, they were another young band of guys who thought they were punk and that's it.But my best friend told me to listen to this song once more, because she loved it (and usually she doesn't really like punk rock), so i decided to listen to this again. And finally, i liked it.And one day, i saw the video of Blvd Of Broken Dreams. At first, i liked the song basically. And once the video was over, i just wanted to listen to it again, I enjoyed the rythm. My birthday came and i had the cd of American Idiot, and i loved it. I listened to this album every day, several times, and so after i bought their other albums and i became fan.I really appreciate this band because their albums are differents, they never did the same thing (except maybe 1,039 & Kerplunk; and Dookie and Insomniac (even if i prefer Insomniac)). I find this band very interesting. And they still surprise me, with the Foxboro Hot Tubs thing.
Beastcool Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Oh, and one more thing. My mom now really likes Green Day. cool.gifWow! I wish my parents liked GD..As for me.. My brother started listening Green Day when he was at 9 or 10th grade at school, he was about 16 (now he's 25) at that time I was in 3d or 4th grade, and I didn't listen to music at all. But since summer 2005 (I bought my first mp3 player) I started digging into music. It has been about half a year since the release of American Idiot but the radio was still full of GD's singles, and my brother already had the whole album. I liked Holiday much, then Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, then Wake Me Up When September Ends, finally I listened to the whole album. I liked it so much, I started digging out info about punks, about punk rock bands, etc. That's the band that showed what is punk rock and anarchy, moreover, I had a depression at that time and lots of GD's songs helped me to keep on feet, especially Wake Me Up When September ends - now it's my favorite one. Now there are lots of bands I like, but Green Day reminds me of that time when I began to love music and to live with it everyday.

jtdscape Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 my friend was reading the booklet for american idiot and thats it! as soon as i read the lyrics to American Idiot i was in love!
Hizz10n Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 in 2003 this norwegian idol guy had basket case on his cd, in an interview he talked about why. he said this band Green Day (that i'd never heard about) was his idols in the nineties, and he kinda wanted to honour them. i LOOOOVED Basket Case, and i loved his song version of it(today i think it sucks ass, but really, you can't compare yourself to Green Day) anyway, i saw this commercial on tv with my friend, and it said: From the band that brought you Basket Case (i jumped up and screamed Green Day, my friend thought i'd gone nuts) i saw a clip from the AI video, but i kinda forgot them.later i heard it on the radio, i liked it, i heard Boulevard of broken dreams and i thought it was great, then i heard holiday, and i liked it...a couple of months later i heard WMUWSE and i was a fan, i downloaded some old songs, i bought a special edition of the rolling stones, it was a magazine ONLY about Green Day, so i would read it over and over again, i LOVED that they had so musc history!that year i got Bullet in a bible for christmas from my mom, i saw the show once(first time i heard anything that was live) after seeing it, i went online and ordered ALL their albums and some dvd's.i am now a bigger fan than what's healthy, i listen to a lot of different music, but when i play Green Day, i can't describe it...it's kinda like a feeling that you belong somewhere, or that you're coming home...that might sound weird...but...i am now an exchange student in Minnesota, i just went on a trip to California with a group of 103 students from all over the world.we were driving through Berkeley, and i convinced one of our tour guides to show me 924 GILMAN STREET! i got to packed tour buses to take a detour that took us 15 minutes so that i could see an old warehouse, and i swear to god it is THE most BEAUTIFUL thing i've ever seen in my life!
Maru Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Back in 1994I was a BASKET CASE fan and when my big sister bought the cassette (YES cassette) of Dookie we couldn't stop listening to it. After that we bought Insomniac and as soon as I put the first track I knew this was no regular band for me, it was the beginning of a never ending addiction and never ending fanatism. From then on I bought all of their cds and thought no band could be better. Then I forgot about them after I bought Warning, and when AI came out I remembered how much of an idiotic fan I was.
Juliette Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Haha, well my brother used to by singles all the time and I'd just steal them from him cause I had no money and as far as I remember I didn't even have my own CD player. But then I got one of those personal cd players and I remember I was in the car and I'd taken the single of Minority with me cause he'd just bought it and I listened to it for the whole journey But that was the only one I had cause I was only, what, 7 at the time and didn't buy CDs. And I remember when American Idiot came out and Green Day performed it on Top Of The Pops and I was like OMG GREEN DAY ... wait this is shit. I learned to like it though So then I heard Boulevard, which I loved, and remembered I'd really liked them when I was younger so I went out and bought Int. Superhits and Insomniac and then I gradually bought all their albums.
The Judges Daughter Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Take one 13 year old who's been listening to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers for 4 years, add in exam stress, new school and sprinkle with a Dookie CD stolen from her sister's ex-boyfriend and et-voilaYou have a kid hooked
FJ Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 The fact that Nimrod was the most aggressive record I'd ever heard, and yet never forgot that a good pop song needs a melody you can hum.
Guest billy024 Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 i grew up with green day as a little kid.i can remember headbanging to brain stew at like 4 years old.but other than that, i hated them when american idiot came out cause they ruined their style or w/e. i was only like 11then i had a girlfriend who rehooked me onto them when she showed me basketcase and brain stew.
Beathe. Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 My aunt has given me Green Day cds since I was little. I've listend to them for as long as I can remember. I never cared much about the band and things like that, but when I got older I wanted to know more about the band members. So here I am.

Princess Consuela Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 I see I'm not the only 'American Idiot fan' here. That makes me feel better I wish I had known Green Day since the very beginning, but I was an infant when they came out with 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. I live in Poland, and we have everything with a 'slight' delay, so the first time I heard about them was during AI era. It was the AI video on MTV. What's funny, I did't like it... I mean I didn't even want to watch it to the end and always switched over to another TV channel. I was like 'What the hell is that?! I'm not watching it.' And after some time I borrowed the CD from my friend, cause I wanted to get into sth new, and I felt in love with it ;D Then I started getting their older stuff, which I found just awesome. It's hard to say what exactly makes me love them. There are so many great bands, but it's GD I just have to hear every day. At least one song, but still. And their shows are sooo electifying for me. BIAB is the best show I've ever seen! Sorry for getting you bored with my babble
st.jimmy521 Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 so ik've heard of Green Day before but i didnt really pay attention to them. i was all into the Beatles and Queen and that was the only thing i listened to. so i was about 10 when my friend showed me the song st. jimmy and then the jesus of suburbia music video. since this was a breath of fresh air for me i was enthralled how rebellious this music seemed to me. i loved the whole "Fuck You" tone that they had in those songs and it serious changed the way i looked at the world. and that actually got me into looking into modern music.
BadgerLALA Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 IT'S MY BEST FRIEND'S PARENTS FAULT THAT STARTED TO LIKE GREEN DAY!!! First time I heard Green Day was the summer of 2005 when they played BOBD 10 times a day on the swedish radio. But on my best friend's 14th birthday (12th December 2005) her parents gave her a MP3 player, American Idiot and BIAB in B-day gift. My best friend brought her MP3 player (with AI and BIAB on) to school. I was really interested in her MP3 player because I had seen people use them and I am kind of a "technology geek" So we listen to it and I only listen to it because I was really impress of her MP3. Anyway anfter a wile I started to like Green Day. But after the christmas holiday she stoped to bring here MP3 to school and I forgot Green Day. But On my two-day-confirmation-camp the spring of 2006 one of the girls hade brought som CD with her and one of them was AI. I said to her:Me: Green Day. They are good. Can't you play the song American Idiot? She: No, Holiday is much better. So while she is playing Holiday on the CD player I realize that I really had stared to like Green Day, so I decided when I come home from the camp I will borrow American Idiot from my best friend.
Guest yellowday Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 I got into Green Day with American Idiot. I remmember being watching the American Idiot video and I liked the song immediately! Then I bought the album and it keeps playing! And off course that then I started to shearch more things about them and bought the other albums (Nimrod is one of my favourites). One thing I love about their music is the lyrics! They're so meaningful! One thing I remmember too is my brother's band playing Basket Case, and despite not knowing the band i already loved the song (then he told me from who it was). They're now one of my favourite bands and since I get into them I pay more attention to the music scene.
CarnageXB Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Wow! I wish my parents liked GD..My parents got me into green day.
Blu Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 They played Boulevard of Broken Dreams during the senior class video my junior year in high school. I remember it taking over my mind. I felt every line in the song. I had never heard of Green Day until that point. Over summer I bought American Idiot behind my parents’ backs. The day after Live 8 (which I unfortunately missed) I started looking them up. I found GDA and spent a lot of time going through the site. On another site I found and watched the video of Green Day playing Minority at Live 8. That was it. I’d fallen in love with Green Day and there was no turning back. I bought all the albums and started collecting TV shows, which I’d rip from my TiVo. I quickly found out that I’ve been hearing their music off and on for over half my life, though my parents kept me very sheltered from the kind of music I love now. Green Day started my media collection. I learned a lot of things because of them.
