Miss Hedgie Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I have no idea why they stuck on me?Erm I think it was the search for good music. I was surrounded by 12 years olds who loved like eminem and all this pop shite which meant nothing.I wanted something that meant something and represented something to believe in- for them it was grinding up anything. :bored: :bored: They stuck on me 'cos visually they are awesome, the hair, clothes and them. Lyrically helps me get through days and got me through school and are keeping me going now in uni.I also was getting into punk music at that time so they stuck better than candyfloss covered in syrup and glue... Hahah I remember writing Give me novacaine in my school organiser and my teacher checking it over...she read it.She looked real concerned And I was like what? So yeah they'll always be stuck on me.
EmmOuGR Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I guess their lyrics and the message they coveyed..That's what I found the most interesting feature on them, something that made them unique in my eyes..then the music, the guys themselves made me like Green Day even more..
GreenDayaremyGods Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 When there was no other music that got me. It was a boring time for music with the same old poppy jingles and radomness. It was a time in my life where I was maturing and not obsessed with Weird Al anymore. Green Day was just a whole new world to me. Their performance on the 47th grammy's was so epic that I couldn't remove my eyes from it or blink. It made me dance smile and play air guitar. That's when you know you've found a great band. I was 9 or 10 at the time and totally tranfixed. I still am
greendayfan597 Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Back in 05, one of my friends was talking about Green Day. I had heard about American Idiot. So i searched them up on iTunes and downloaded a few songs. I listened to them so much i wanted more. Now with 80+ songs, you know i like em.
forget_me_nots Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I don't remember why they stuck on me! I just saw the video for Holiday, bought the album, got tired of being called a bandwagon fan and being told that they suck by everyone, bought every one of their albums, and fell in love. I also found out in '05 that I've been in love with them since I was a little kid, cause I found out Good Riddance was them, and I've loved that song for ten years. Haha. I just immediately fell in love with them, and I don't know why. Maybe cause the last CD I bought before AI was Hilary Duff. Who knows. And also, Billie Joe is really hot. Hahaha, that, too.
MassHysteria Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I got hooked because of a love for rock operas, protest songs, and an amazing cover of my hero, John Lennon.
louizex Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 i actually only bought america idiot to get attention from a guy who was in love with them but when i gave it a listen on my cd player in my room one day bored and pissed off, jesus of suburbia came on and it was the first song i ever fell in love with. i was so confused at all the different parts aswel, i didnt know when it was stopping and a new song was starting. so yeh it was the lyrics in jesus of suburbia that made them stick on me. fuck that was a good day
Kayfabe Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Lol actually I remember this fateful day crystal clear. Summer '06, I was watching a Dragonball Z video and someone added BOBD in the background and i was like OMFG i remember this song! It's so good I love it. Hey these r the same people that wrote american idiot! That's a good one. (clicks on Green Day website) hey let me listen to this one called 'Holiday' wow, this is amazing too, I could get used to this....
JadedPunk_91 Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 well for me whan I first heard American Idiot I though "wow this sounds good..." so I looked into it and found out that I have acctually been listening to them since I was about 5 and then more I found out about then the more I realized that I liked them and that I could relate to them. That was the same for me
g l o r i a Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Let's see, well I did become a fan of their music when American Idiot came out, and after I was hooked onto that album I downloaded ALL and I mean ALL of their other songs, and began to learn more about these guys (and realized that I did listen to them a lot when I was younger, I just didn't know that it was them) I don't have the greatest home life and honestly I think that if Green Day wasn't around for me, I would've probably have commited suicide by now. Something about them just keeps me so happy and glad to be alive. And I've never seen them ever, so the concert July 24th, is going to be the happiest day of my life.
94th nimrod. Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 My father bougth his first CD's in '97. One of them was Nimrod. At that time I was only 3 years old, with a father who's a old punk and a mother who just liked country. My father played it for me, and I loved it. I asked him for that CD, and I got it. I played it almost every day for many years. But I didn't get any new album before American Idiot came out. In 2007, I think, I started to buy all the other albums. And that's it. At this time, my father use to borrow AI, and that's pretty cool, because all my friends parents are just listening to country and things like that.
karma1215 Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 The front man --- Billie Joe Armstrong, followed by Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool... they just always seemed real to me... never fake and they have great music.
VivaLaChelsea Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 In primary school my library teacher used to put the lyrics to 'Good Riddence (Time Of Your Life)' up on the projector and play guitar as we sang along. Of course I was only 9 at this time, so it wasnt until a couple of years later when I felt the urge to begin rebelling against everyone and everything and this is when I actually 'officially' discovered all of Green Day's music. Since then Ive listened to them every day
rage-love-life Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I heard Boulevard of Broken Dreams, though it was awesome, checked out AI, loved it, checked out other stuff, loved it. The end. Although I remember holding AI and thinking why would I listen to it? If only I listened to it then....
Angie-Marie Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I've been a fan since '94, when I was about 9 years old. I'd hear songs like Longview and Basket Case on the radio and on MTV and I just thought they were awesome songs. I didn't really understand what all the lyrics meant, I just knew the songs sounded amazing. Dookie was the first CD I ever bought and I have yet to be disappointed by a Green Day album. I guess they're a band that's just grown with me over time. By the time American Idiot came out, I had really gotten into stuff like The Who's Tommy and Pink Floyd's The Wall. So when I heard American Idiot was going to be a rock opera like Tommy and The Wall, I was really excited about it. And now that I'm older, I listen to their stuff from the '90s and appreciate it in a different way than I did when I was 9 years old. They're not just songs that sound awesome, I can really appreciate how great the lyrics are.
Soroush Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 After listening to Basket Case at the age of 11 I was just like "WO0O0O0Ow that's cool"And that was how I fell in love with GD and rockn roll. especially punk rock

goldwing7500 Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I heard Longview when I was 8 and I was like "This Rocks...Hard!"
cardinalfan22 Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 It's like they know exactly who I am and just put it into music. It's simply amazing.
Sharmellow Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 They spoke out the truth through their great lyrics and beautiful music.
