What are your feelings towards Green Day now?

i'm still one of the obsessives.

i listen to them pretty much daily, and still love them dearly.

they may be taking what seems like forever to put out an album, but it will be worth the wait.

Looking at it from your point of view Andres, I can completely understand your frustration. You have been personally promised things that haven't been fulfilled. And it's a shame that you were told to remove your update. It was nice of you to share it with us and it was great getting some news. I hope you don't think your work on GDA is all for nothing. I'm not active on these forums, but I visit the site often and I think it's by far the best Green Day site out there.

From my point of view, I'm not disappointed in anything because I haven't been promised anything. Sure I'd love to hear from them more often, and get updates here and there, but I don't think they respect their fans any less for not doing it. I admit I don't listen to them much these days, but I don't really listen to much music anymore. I seem to have lost interest in everything and I think it has more to do with myself than the band. I have to say though, when I catch Green Day on the radio or come across one of their many performances...it makes my heart beat fast and it gives me those little butterflies of excitement...and it reminds me of just how much I love this band.

passionate or obsessive?

Both. There's like essays in this thread on why Green Day aren't fat cats. Silly people

I never thought i'd say this, but i have lost hope/interenst in Green Day. Yes i admit i got into them around AI, but i love their older material. I agree with everyone...yes they have families & lives but can't they just let us know that they're alive or something like with those voice comments again or something?

I'm looking around my room at the posters and wondering if i'll still be crazy about this band in the coming years. I dunno what to expect, but Green Day is not what they used to be for me now. Maybe i'm being redundant to what everyone is saying but i think almost everyone here feels the same.Another thing,,,all we're getting now is charity stuff that BILLIE is doing not the entire band, just billie. i just hope they dont ruin their fanbase any more by giving us false hopes for the new album. Right now, all im listening to is HIM, MCR and stuff, cant remember last time i listened to Green Day :(

p.s. don't think for one second that im saying that i dont like them any more, just that i've lost some interest.

And i totally agree with Andres

the crowd follows the album. the album doesn't look for the crowd. green day writes albums they like on their own terms and if people like it, well hooray let's thank them for a moment, then it's onto the next project. there's no life-long loving aiming-to-please attatchment with green day to their audience, the audience comes to the band and any nassayers will move on or be smart enough to see through the bullshit and will enjoy the music, all public relations aside, like a normal human being with preferences and opinions on what is good music... to each his own.

I've been waiting for this day to come, for Andres to see the light. I'm not being sarcastic or cynical, i'm actually being as serious as I possibly can be, I have been completely OFF Green Day since around Bullet in a Bible and it's never really recovered. The first hints that I felt they were losing their appeal was when they were EVERYWHERE, I didn't go off them because more people liked them, I went off them because they became VERY arrogant in interviews and not "Funny" arrogant either. They acted like they had created the best album in years and years, which which arguably could be true, but I didn't need to hear it from them every two seconds. Bullet in a bible was an excellent concert but the rest was self-involved garbage and looking back, i regret ever watching it. Fast Forward to today...They're mega stars now, they don't care about their fans, they're more concerned about getting in good with Bono than making an actual DIFFERENCE about poverty and that's a fact. Working Class Hero was something to boost their egos and largen their pockets (you're gullible to believe that it all went to charity, it never does). Tré Cool posting a Chocolate Rain video, how original, it wasn't even funny, I don't get the parady in his video...it's basically him doing what Tay Zonday does and somehow that adds comedy...baffles me. Just another guy using his fame for cheap laughs. I don't rate their music anymore, not even the old stuff because its worn out now, excuse the pun but CHANGE THE RECORD. I haven't posted on here for a while because I felt like I was singled out sometimes or completely ignored if I said the SLIGHTEST offhand comment about Green Day, and now Andres is just re-writing what I have said all this time and just because he's got the power it's acceptable. I love how it ends up really. Green Day are by far, the next U2 and NOT in a good way. The End. EDIT: I wanna point out that ALSO, they used the Iraq war and the deaths of many people in that, to gain MORE fame and according to them "To make a difference" WELL IT DIDN'T WORK because Bush got re-elected. NOW i'm done, how do you like them apples?

I think it's hard to disagree with any of that.

Despite being at the gig itself, Bullet in a Bible was a terrible DVD. They come across as a band who have statements but no justification for them. War's bad, Bush is evil, poverty sucks and so on. But they've said nothing that would make me respect and understand their opinion on the subjects. I still listen to the band, and enjoy their music, but they are either musicians or politicians, you can't be both. Their fanbase is too young and too stupid to understand anything more complex than 'Bush sucks'.

I assume that by not keeping their fans in the loop, they'll reinvent themselves and be marketed as a new thing when the album is released. The don't have to keep their fans interested because they'll spend millions advertising the new CD.

And the U2 track and the Lennon cover were simply dire.

I agree with that cunt allenxtreme. Green Day was the first band I really liked and listened to, but since American Idiot they've just been a real disappointment. They're too full of themselves and it feels like they've kinda lost the point they were trying to make when they started out. Someone said they skip Green Day songs when they're listening on shuffle these days, and I agree. Actually, since I changed computers, I haven't even GOT any Green Day songs on the new one. I used to listen to almost only Green Day for long periods of time and now, I haven't listened to them for months. The stuff is getting old. To keep SOME of the fans they got, we could use some new music, or even an update every now and again to keep folk slightly interested until they got something publish.

But honestly, I don't think they'll save themselves from this. I think they've become cunts, and I won't respect them the same way I did again.

even if they did give fans news on 'what we're up to', would it really be benificiary?

"erm, well, you know we erm, we recorded the guitars for what we think may be a single yesterday. but then billie had to go pick his kids up from school and, erm, we haven't finished it yet so, erm, not a lot's going on"

what news could you possibly want?

It'd be nice to the fans to know that they're actually DOING something. They can't just make an album, tour it, stay quiet for a couple of years, then bring another album out and expect us to buy it.

Green Day has given us some. For example when they made the remastered versions of their albums and Foxoboro Hot Tubs songs (if it is them). Yes, I'm kinda getting bored with it all and want more news, but they still will be my favorite. My friend was saying bands like FOB, Hannah Montana, and Jonas Brothers don't give them any news at all. They have absolutely no connection with the fans and all they care about is money. At least, Green Day isn't all about money.

Maybe Green Day kinda doesn't know what to tell the fans because it has been rough and the same old stuff. Most bands right now haven't written well-thought songs like Green Day has. Bands just want to go out there and get some money. Green Day is older and have been in the business for a long time. Most of these younger bands haven't been out there as long and are still feeling the rush on what it's like to be famous. Right now, Green Day feels like they don't want to get into the rush of the rap scene and be blamed as sell outs. When Green Day finds the right timing, they'll release the album. I know waiting can be hard, but I'm not giving up hope. :)

i dont know about hannah montana or the jonas brothers but im a fan of fall out boy (yes ill admit it). i go on their website everyday and they always update on their news. maybe not everyday but they still keep up with it. also pete wentz the bassist from FOB updates the journals at least once a month about what they are doing and such. they may be all about the money but they show that they still care about their fans.

as far as green day goes i still like them a lot but im not as obsessed as i was 3 years ago. i still enjoy listening to AI and all their other albums once in a while . it never gets old. but yes i will admit that i am a little disappointed with the lack of updates. i was really hoping we would get some kind of news from them and we havent. im getting a little sick of waiting for the whole new album thing (if there will ever be one) but im still trying to be patient (sp?) hopefully this long wait will be worth it.

Someone mentioned that Green Day has given us some stuff like remastered albums...well it's actually the other way around, WE gave them the money so WE could buy the same album that WE have already got (in better quality...ish) because WE are idiots. That BY FAR is a money making scam, it reminds me of Michael Jackson re-releasing all his shit because he's broke, also theres a comedian over here called Peter Kay who keeps recycling all of his old material and has done so for the past 3-4 years. Green Day in that sense is no different to these "people". Green Day do not respect their fans, during the AI tour, they did the EXACT same routine (the hitchin a ride wanking thing, the watergun, King for a Day shit) as they did during Warning and even sometime before that. Don't believe me? Watch Reading Festival 2001, then watch BIAB. They don't have the decency to respect their old fans either, they filled their setlist with all this anti-bush garbage and it would have been nice to see something from Kerplunk or a few more from Dookie, Insomniac or Nimrod. I dont give a shit that i'm ranting in multiple posts, delete them for all I care (it's what this forum used to do). I'm not saying this because i'm against Green Day because its the new thing to do, everyone hates them blah blah blah. I'm doing this because i'm actually very upset and frustrated having been a fan ALL MY LIFE, can you imagine that? I bet I can barely count the people on this forum who have actually been a fan all their lives on one hand. That's not the issue, not how long you've known them. It feels like Green Day have disrespected me for the last time, I won't be buying their next album, I haven't been keeping watch of all the updates until today and I have realised that Green Day are full of shit. I don't think they have any songs (any good songs anyway) there is no way they can break the fame they got from AI. They're keeping YOU all on your toes, they expect you to want and wait for it...what does this remind me of? Chinese Democracy (guns n roses). But hey, at least Axl is decent enough for an update even if he is a bullshitter. Anyone remember when Blink 182 brought out their last album? They had video updates and everything, I felt I couldn't get enough of them, they were VERY fan friendly and WEREN'T in it for the money (Tom was though heh.) Even the Killers give nice little updates and don't keep us waiting for years and years. Green Day can suck my gigantic black balls. I hate them.

Yeah, I agree. I don't really consider myself a 'fan' anymore, but still, I'm interested enough to illegally download their next album though. Besides not only do I not respect them anymore, I no longer enjoy listening to their old music that much. I don't think they were ever that good to be honest, I guess it was just that in those years I was so desperate for something to depend on, and Green Day just happened to be around I guess. I think after this there is no hope that I'll be able to gain that respect again, plus Billie annoys the hell out of me, and I get the impression that Gerard Way is going down the same path. But anyways, my point is I can't enjoy music if I don't like the people who wrote it that much.
