Haha i know.

And right now i must admit that being all -_- to the guys isnt gonna help either. But it better be a good album XD For all this waiting.

And like i said before.. isnt it a bit of a stupid thing to do if theyre re-vamping the site this month? I mean if theyre bringing out an album this year, maybe it is gonna be soon, because itsgonna be stupid revamping the site with no particular album theme now, then when they bring out the album do it again. Unless its gonna be late 08 :/

Green Day is a quality band. I don't listen to them too much anymore, but I still know that they are, indeed, a quality band.

Noone doubted that as a band, Green Day are fantastic.

Well I can only speak for myself actually.

I never said anyone doubted them as a band. I was simply listing my opinions on the issues.

passionate or obsessive?
*is both*
O.o not you Sanah

But certain people :o That are being very naive about it all.

And now that you said that, i mean obsessive XD Not passionate. Because I'm a passionate Green Day fan :o

Hah, thanks, Darren. :)

And yeah.

I tend to appear wayyy too obsessive on here.

In real life, I listen to them more than any other bands, but it's not like my life revolves around lingering onto every mention of them in any recent news article.

Green Day is a quality band.
Damn right.

My thoughts exactly.

Its not really the music that have changed, it's more there style. Take the songs off American Idiot and add three guys with random clothing, green hair, and a energi thats says: In your face!

They need to lose the smoikings they're wearing at the award-shows. Lose some of the maskara. And throw Mr. White off a cliff....

American Idiot was such an amazing record, way, way, WAY better than Dookie. But it was destroyed by the style they were running at that time. If Billie Joe hadn't tryed to play an Emo God, then all the "This song is not Anti-American, its anti war", "Fuuck George Bush" and "Oh, all these songs are so emotioally important to me" Could have been replaced by the good old Billie we know...

I believe that the next album is gonna be way better than American Idiot, i don't know why. Maybe it's just a feeling :)

But let's say all the Foxboro songs are songs that they took off the new record, then the songs got to be good, Because a song like Mother Mary is not a song you just throw away, except if he record is really speciel...

I can wait 'till the end of time!

for one, it's eyeliner. mascara is for eyelashes, durp =O

two, jason's cool.

three, EMO GOD?! do you know what the fuck emo is?

finally, why do you have a problem with songs being emotionally important? would you rather have them play music they feel no connection to?

I'd just like to make the point to clarify that I have no big issues with their music, nor with the legnth of time they are taking to release new stuff. I can understand completly, and respect, that they will take as long as they feel they need to release new material. Their music has also had a great impact on my life, and they have my full respect for that.

I just think they could have tried a wee bit harder to give something to their fans. Not because they owe it to us, but because they want to give something to the thousands of people who care about what they're up to.

I agree with you. I don't really mind that they are taking their time making their next album, but no updates? I don't see how hard it is to update once in awhile with whatever. They don't give out any info at all. Most other bands keep their fans in the loop even if they aren't really doing anything "important". They still let their fans know....something. I do wish they would come out with something sometime soon, but I understand and respect that they are taking their time with that. But an update once in a while doesn't seem like too much to ask of them.

Emo God? I'm not even gonna bother telling you how utterly stupid you just sounded, because I think that's been covered already. If you can tell me why Green Day are "Emo Gods" then I'll send you a cookie...

And the Foxboro Hot Tubs stuff is good but it's nowhere near good enough to be part of the next Green Day album.

I still like them and all, but I must admit on being disappointed about not hearing anything new from them.

Most fans that have been around for awhile continue to like the music they make, because we mature right along with them and can relate to what they are singing about.

I don't see how the music is more mature. Songs like Jesus of Suburbia do a pretty great job relating to teens, but I know it's not Billie's own mentality. Actually, the whole St. Jimmy concept gave me the opposite impression. Not moving on at all, but actually American Idiot seemed like intense nostalgia for Green Day.

I disagree with you entirely. Had Green Day been looking for the popular thing and put out material just for the sake of having a number 1 album, they would have released it much sooner. They know that by waiting 4 years, they're going to be falling behind a lot of the hype that would have been had they released it only two years after AI.

Even if they do that (which i'm not holding my breath for), that'll still only be one or two updates within the past year. It's not like we're asking them to give us a detailed essay of what they're doing. Just a simple update "We're back in the studio, we've recorded __ songs. We're looking forward to showing you guys stuff later this year" blah blah, whatever. Just anything at all. That doesn't take any time at all and it's doesn't need to be some calculated PR thing either.

Then they'd better impress. Look, I'll give a hope for them. Maybe they'll shock me with something wonderful.

The wait has just killed them though. Instead of giving an on top of the world vibe, they're giving a "We're not done yet but we're not dedicated" feeling to me. I want Green Day to be remembered for some great contributions to modern rock, including American Idiot. I don't want them to be the next Metallica (money happy, self-righteous fucking assholes who don't want their light to die)

I really understand you Andres (this is the first time I read an entire topic) because it seems like they're just tired of the whole fan and sell-out thing.Their lack of updates may seem a lot of things like...they're going to give us the most incredible album , they don't really know what to do next as a band (wich is sad), they're going to break... I don't know.

All I know is that if they give we can give but people like you are wasting time for nothing and that's not fair.

I have gone back and forth about this subject for months now. And I have come to only one conclusion. I think they're stuck. They don't know what to tell us, because they probably don't know what they're doing with the new album. In 2006, Billie Joe made it seem like the band was on a roll with the material they had written, then a year later, in another interview, it seemed like they barely moved from where they were a year ago. I understand your frustration, but there's only so many times they can be like "We're in the studio, haven't quite began recording yet, we don't know where we're going with the new album yet, etc.". That's the only shit they've been saying. Why? Because they're probably in a slump. They want to probably top American Idiot, and keep they're new found fans, without being "scenesters". They're probably scared to release information about the new album, or to even begin recording one, because they're probably afraid of entering the same commercial slump they did after Dookie, with Insomniac-Warning.

Posted

I don't think they are really bothered about entering a 'commercial slump'. I think they probably just wanna do something that they are 100% happy with.

I have to disagree with you there. I know they'll always be happy with the music they play, but during their previous commercial slump, they were on the verge of breaking up after Warning. It seemed to have them fighting a lot, and when American Idiot came out, and it was successful, they were all the sudden happy again. Although it doesn't mean everything, being accepted commercially is an important aspect to a band. Now that they have it again, (or at least did), they probably want to find ways to keep it.

Maybe Tre slept with Billie's wife and they need time to all be friends again.

Within the past year or so, my music styles have evolved and changed completely. I don't listen to Green Day at all, really, except on the rare occasion, but I have learned to appreciate them as a whole and their music seeing as this is the band that essentially helped me branch off to other bands, which led to other music styles and so forth. I still come to this forum since I do feel they had a significant impact on me at the time I started listening to their music. I am a bit disappointed about the lack of updates recently, though, because I still do like to know what they're up to, despite the fact that I don't listen to them anymore.

I usually tend to listen to classic rock, and heavy metal. But I think Green Day has something special, a passion in their music, that seperates them from other teeny bopper bands in today's "rock" music. You can tell they have a lot of thought in a majority of their music, that other artist today lack.

I've completely blocked out most modern "pop" music. All unintentionally. I do like classic rock and most good '60s/'70s bands (ha, lately I've been listening to many of the music my dad listened to as a kid). I do agree with you, though, that Green Day has something other modern artists don't have and that's what kept me as a fan for a long time.
