SusantheMartian Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Sorry for being an ass-hole....But I don't understand...Euh so when they sell-out wht d'ya mean?Be kind to a stupid 13 year old please xD.it pretty much means they play their music purely for the money.
Mrs. Nobody Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 it pretty much means they play their music purely for the money.Ah I see, thanks.Well AI was a huge success, but just for the money? No idea xD. I think they were saying what they wanted to say. And err, it happened to be successful
Jillie Boe. Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Ah I see, thanks.Well AI was a huge success, but just for the money? No idea xD. I think they were saying what they wanted to say. And err, it happened to be successful Then they went all over the place dragging it on.
GuitarPlayer5 Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Then they went all over the place dragging it on.That is what people like to call a "tour."
Jillie Boe. Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 That is what people like to call a "tour."Are you retarded or what? "Dragging it on" more than needed, as in after the touring, pfft.
Instant Mash Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Well, it seems to me that people who call Green day sellouts don't really grasp the meaning of the term. Selling out doesn't mean making a lot of money, it means throwing out your values and beliefs. If you stay to true to your artistic integrity and ethical values, you haven't sold out. It doesn't matter how much money you've made.Couldn't have said it better myself...
GuitarPlayer5 Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Are you retarded or what? "Dragging it on" more than needed, as in after the touring, pfft. What? You don't like retards now?
GuitarPlayer5 Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 How do people get off calling Green Day sellouts without calling every single other band who's ever joined a record label sellouts.I think people just use the term to get on the nerves of Green Day fans and don't really understand what the hell they are talking about.
Mrs. Nobody Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Then they went all over the place dragging it on.But hey, didn't Tre Cool say that AI had a "taking over the planet" vibe, and that you've gotta do that once in a lifetime?
GuitarPlayer5 Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 But hey, didn't Tre Cool say that AI had a "taking over the planet" vibe, and that you've gotta do that once in a lifetime? perfect quote
Trotsky Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 How do people get off calling Green Day sellouts without calling every single other band who's ever joined a record label sellouts.I think people just use the term to get on the nerves of Green Day fans and don't really understand what the hell they are talking about.I think different bands just get different levels of loyalty depending on their fan base. For example, with Green Day, there were some old fans who called them sellouts, but their voices were drowned in a wave of new fans, and they're just starting to be heard now. My Chemical Romance was not called a sellout by anyone when they decided to record on a major label, but after their second major label album was out then some people said they sold out. Anti-Flag had huge fucking legions of fans pissed off when they signed to RCA, but most of them changed their mind when they saw that the sound itself was not watered down at all from the last album. And then you can see bands like Rise Against who have lost hardly any fans over the years., Inever been to a show where so many people could sing the words to the old songs they played.
Rice Doll Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 I hate when people say they sold out. Just because they're rich and well known... what the hell do they want? For Green Day to be an underground band? Would that make Green Day better? It's ridiculous. I thought most bands that start out WANT to become rich and famous. Isn't that why they form? And to share their music with the world? Well, it's not Green Day's fault for making music that becomes so popular. They just have talent. And they do have families to take care of, so they have to make money.
lift-to-happy-hour Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 i really time people stop saying Green Day are sell outs. They are way past that point, they're just really very successful and people should just except that.took the words right out of my mouth
GuitarPlayer5 Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 took the words right out of my mouth you just got jacked.........
Annie. Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 They never changed goals nor did they do things that made them achieve that status...except make music.then why the merch? the overly excessive merch? I think it's ok to be a big band but they achieved Dookie's success without the American Idiot lunchboxes and shoelaces crap.
Parley Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 then why the merch? the overly excessive merch? I think it's ok to be a big band but they achieved Dookie's success without the American Idiot lunchboxes and shoelaces crap. This has been talked to DEATH here. I think the topic should stay dead.
Annie. Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 green day never sold out in my opinionunless they've sold out to the millions of dollars they knew could make with overmarketing AI. which they have/
TotalBasketCase13 Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Hey now, I have GD shoelaces, and I like them! As long as there are people willing to buy them, they'll keep making more merch. Besides, things have changed a lot in that area for bands since the 90's. They're not the ones who decide how much to have anyway.
Annie. Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 This has been talked to DEATH here. I think the topic should stay dead.so you've come to some conclusion about this? I'm here for some discussion, not to be told that YOU'VE already discussed this.
