Ms. Whirly Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 meh.it wasn't the greatest song, but I hope they win and it's not based on votes...mtv gets to decide, so i think they have somewhat of a chance.did anyone notice that there's no genre catagories this year (best pop, rock, rap, hip-hop etc. video)? that's kind of sad, becasue that's whats really great about music is the variety, not stupid concepts like "earth shattering"
Bryn Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 how about both!so its fucked up stoned dogeball with rocks(I so tademark that)..now that would be funny... That sounds completely dangerous...As long as we get Taco Bueno afterwards though, I am game...
Evil-Sheep Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 I would say in terms of stardom and rarity etc. it is the most earth-shattering combination, because all these artists like Akon and JT collaberate with everyone, they're WHORES!!! After hearing and watching it on ESPN, it didn't really appeal to me. I know wh wasn't a duet, but I like it more. Idk that's my taste. perhaps chocolate rain should get some type of reward. Just kiddingYou shouldn't kid! Thats the best idea ever! I wish Tre would release an album of songs he's written and maybe some new ones, it would definitley top the charts!
*Jade_Green_Day* Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 I suppose it's good for them to have a nomination, even if I don't think they will win and the song isn't that great. We'll see what happens when the VMA's announce the results.
Mrs. Nobody Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 I don't like that song that much....but I'd still vote though
**nobodylikesyou** Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 good luck to them~ I hope they win.I am surprised at all the negative comments.
*withoutadoubt* Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 good luck to them~ I hope they win.I am surprised at all the negative comments.why are you surprised?
justcause Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 why are you surprised? I'm not really surprised, either - at the time it came out, a lot of the fans weren't wildly enthusiastic about the song, and there was a lot of negativity about the collaboration with U2 as well. I love the song in itself - it's raw, old school punk, and I think despite the production and the fact that the lyrics were altered to make it more directly relevant to the cause, it speaks from within. 'I realise there's no reply' - yet there's the sense of a hope that won't give up.
dreamy22 Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 the other collaboration sux big time, and gwen stefanie, Eminem, timberlake and akon and u2 for that matter shits me big time.i think Beyoncé f/ Shakira would probably win, but good on greenday for being there. Nice to know they're recognised for something these days. and gwen stefanie is playing on tv in the background right now....somebody shoot me, I dislike her songs so much, she was much better in No Doubt.

'I realise there's no reply' - yet there's the sense of a hope that won't give up.their recording was not raw or old school punk. I like the song fine, i listen to it on occasion, but i just wasn't happy with the way it came out. it seemed over-produced and semi-fake. It had no raw-ness or old school punk'ness in it's recording. It seems pretty dry to me.
Relavar Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 I don't like that song that much.Although i like the video. They did good with that.Just, not a very good cover.

Mrs. Nobody Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Out of the nominations, i hope Green Day will win (but they probably won't ). I prefer that than Eminem or whatever ...
justcause Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 their recording was not raw or old school punk. I like the song fine, i listen to it on occasion, but i just wasn't happy with the way it came out. it seemed over-produced and semi-fake. It had no raw-ness or old school punk'ness in it's recording. It seems pretty dry to me.I'm talking about something internal and integral. I agree that the starkness of the original is layerd and layered over with production - although I kind of like what it did with Billie Joe's vocal, the contrast between the fragility of his House of the Rising Sun intro and where he re-enters with 'I cried to my daddy', where it sounds like a radio message from some distant place, an S.O.S., which after all is what it is. Production is always third-party tinkering with the source, however sympathetic it may be. Sometimes it adds to the power, sometimes it dilutes or homogenizes, and here I think it both gives and takes away. Nevertheless, personally I feel the rawness of the original coming thru it all in the power of the performance, and especially the vocal - it all hinges on 'are coming'. It's where hope and despair combine in the notes - it's trying to believe.
Boston Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Thanks for the news Laura, but I don't want them to win. I didn't like the song or the fact that afterwards Green day started becoming U2.
